NATO counters are in. You want to remove the sprites at the same time. Currently, you have both.

Why do so many insist on that... Counters are not in the game. Yet. I hope for a DLC though, or that someone will be able to mod it in. NATO symbols are not the same. However, I am glad that NATO symbols are in, I still miss counters.

On topicSeems like a good idea for a Spy/Intelligence/special operations DLC in my opinion. Could be bundled with commando/special operations etc.

For instance you can build small commando units that would work like "submarines" on land, stay under the radar. If spotted they are destroyed - don't even need to fight them - like sending a division to fight a tiny unit would be boring. Should only do minor damage though, to factories, infrastructure etc. Or destroy or limit resources (for a limited time, blowing up mines etc)

Why did this thread turned into a Nato counter discussion?
Jeez, some people really have a fetish for them.
And I obviously still did not get the difference between a counter and a counter accompanied by a sprite. Maybe you have to have this fetish to understand it?

One more try: You out there just don't want to see the sprite, if it wasn't there, you would be okay with the counters as they are now?

edit: I think commando operations are not on topic here. It was about gaining more than jsut equipment when annexing a country.

A counter cannot be accompanied by a sprite. As I explained previously, a counter is a way of displaying units as used in board games and by generals in the real world (I would think). the "counter" you are referring to is merely a symbol below the sprite, having NATO symbols has nothing to do with it.

I do love me some counter porn mmm yeah

Let's try to stay on topic.

Should research or a research bonus be given when you annex a country that has research you did not research yet.

Well, you only get around 10% of the Equipment (right?). So there should be a gap between the annexed nation's "ahead" in Technology and the gain. Would be fair to get some naval tech from Italy when you annex them as hungry. Or to generalize more: The annexed nation should be more than just one tech ahead for you to get something, so taht you can not really boost your tech by attacking someone slightly ahead, but only can catch up on fields you totally neglected until then (and the annexed nation did not).

edit: And if one agrees on that, one might also ask whether this happens often enough to be relevant.

I don't think that you should be able to steal techs outright. Spies, or annexing a country with higher tech, should give some percentage bonus to your own research, as in 10% of the DIFFERENCE in tech investment. Tech research is tracked even if you're not currently researching a particular tech, so getting a 10% head-start on techs you "appropriated" seems like a reasonable compromise. If they're only 40 research days ahead of you, that's a measly 4 day gain. If they're 3-5 full techs ahead, at 150-250 days per, then you're going to get a fairly significant boost to your own research, possibly even bumping you up by a full tech level.

Likewise, spies should NOT steal "blueprints", they should steal tech points (research days) towards various fields, which would hasten your own efforts. The "all or nothing" mechanism in HOI3 was about as "gamey" as it gets: you could have spies steal the AA tech for a ship class that you don't use (in one campaign, my spies stole AA techs for 3 different ship classes while playing landlocked Hungary), steal 2-3 levels of something that you needed badly but couldn't afford to research (unlocking MOT in another game with a minor country), or not come back with anything after 3-4 years (bummer, total waste of points). It was potentially game-changing for some countries, and totally random. Offhand,I can't think of any situations in WWII where spies stole "blueprints" outright, although there were numerous cases of industrial espionage, reverse engineering of captured equipment, and other means of using the enemy's tech to enhance your own efforts.
