In my latest game, Vanilla 1.06b HoI, playing as SU, that was what I was forced to conclude. I sent some armies to help out the Poles (a rather large number - I was going for experience) and was consistently crashing when the war ended in the German favor. I would crash a day or two after the last VP province was lost (typically Lwow), so I assume that's when the AI was deciding to annex the nation.

Wound the game back to before I sent Exp forces in, and there were no problems. But there seemed to be no way to avoid the crash when I did send them in.

Ok, everyones stayed away here....

So its another form of a bug with EXP forces?

Anyone have any ideas?
More likely a problem, similar to the warscore one that also caused an access violation upon midnight after an annex. Presumably there is some regular management code that crawls through the various units periodicly, and wants to deduct (or check) supplies/oil/whatever. It finds the owner's tag, and accesses that nation's data structure .... which is no longer there because of the annex. Hence, access violation (aka CtD)

Like the warsore entries and the worldmarket entries (which also remained in version 1.05 and caused AV's), upon annex all references to the now annexed TAG's should be removed (or switched over) from the game universe. Failing that, addition of a sanity check in the code (getting a NULL pointer back should be checked upon, instead of trying to access data fields through such NULL pointer) would help in at least avoiding the CtD's
