I am the Byz and have Venice as my allied vassal. I belong to Venice's trade league. I have my own COT in Thrace. I own Alexandria and am about to annex Astrakhan, in mid war with Persia who is being amazingly stubborn. Mostly because I have taken all the provinces I can see and she keeps popping in and out of "terra incognito" with troops I can't see ahead of time. This will change but back to my question. I don't want to annex her yet as I am waiting for the "get core" mission on Venice but when that happens is it worth my while to annex her or should I not? If I do the trade league goes away so is it worth keeping the trade league or worth more to annex the COT? It is about 1495.

If you are at war with a country that has provinces in terra incognita you can move in it and discover even without explorer.

For the main question depends on you slider settings, you are going to free trade or mercantilism?

It took about 5 years to save up the gold. At the time I owned most of Greece and all of Asia Minor up to Mus and was at peace. I had a level 6 master of mint and had National bank as my 1st national idea so I could mint fairly heavily without inflation.

Yea, I know I can explore his provinces without a conquistador but keep getting distracted. Every time I send a force into the unknown he invades one of my occupied provinces and I have to divert them to lift the siege. I was also distracted by massive revolts in southern Russia and Alexandria which has prevented me from applying full force. Those revolts have been suppressed and overwhelming force is on the way. I should just send 1 regiment suicide explorers or just ignore the sieges but haven't had much time to play recently.

I am at +2 Free Trade, two on the free trade side of the slide (might be 3, I can't remember at the moment but well onto the free trade side). Cent/Decent is at 1 on the Cent side and Innovative is at 0.

Usually if you plan to trade a lot in foreign COTs is better to go full free trade and stay in a league but now you already have a COT in Thrace, in Alexandria and soon in Astrakhan and you can get the one in Venice also. In this situation I'll keep Venice alive till a revert from free trade to mercantilism and rule in my own COT. Or you have also a lot of merchants in foreign COTs? And what about your infamy level, current and planned for future?

----------------------

I make efforts to trade in foreign COTs but it's tough as they all belong to other leagues. I have 5 merchants in Thrace, Venice, Alexandria and Astrakhan but have trouble keeping them elsewhere. At one time I had 5 in Andalucia and Antwerpen but they have slowly eroded down to 1-2. My infamy is at 3.8 right now and I will get a +1 hit when I take enough provinces from Persia to get Astrakhan and Daghestan in the peace. I want a land route to my Russian provinces. I don't intend to let my infamy get too high, 5 or less. I won't get much new infamy for a while as I can't afford to annex much more before over-extension happens. I need to wait for the Caucasus/East Med provinces to go core. I will probably annex Gaza to get a land link to my Egyptian provinces (Alexandria, Damietta, Cairo and the Delta) but no more for a while. Austria and Bohemia are BFF blobs so there will be trouble in the Balkans at some point which means I don't want a high infamy anyway to help delay the declaration and maybe get my allies to jump in when they attack. So it sounds like I leave Venice as is for a while. Thanks.
