I just started a new GC with Japan and it's year 1939. I've conquered most of the chinese territories when I got the option to annex or install a puppet in china. I chose to annex. Was that the wisest option? I got a lot of ICs (with a minister with +15% foreign ic use) but i put like 60 garrisons for partisans. What is your opinion, should I go ahead and keep garrisoning all those provinces and attack India next, or should I liberate Nat. China and disband all those garrisons for manpower (I only have like 180 mp left). If it's too late, maybe I can puppet china for my next game if people think that's the wiser choice.

Consider...

You should consider all the infantry divisions your puppet is going to build... :)

give him all your blueprints and he will be quiet an additional punch to your force...
... u can also take controll of them, what gives you more forces than you would have made out of the ICs.

Puppet is what I always do. It saves manpower, and increase the reasearch slots, as they will be researching some different venues.

I annex Nat.China. Then the territories that don't produce any resources or IC's I give them to the other puppet, but making sure I still have a supply line of territories to India and to Sea of Japan. In the end, I use less garrisons and frees up a lot of TC.



Edit: Don't know why I confuse puppet/annex :wacko:

you go for the best of both worlds - if you have the Chinese defeat event - when you choose the first option f.e. you get some of the Chinese industrial heartland and they are your puppet and will grow you a gigantic army !

I added some extra chinese cores that they didnt get if annexed like Sinkiang and Xibei i believe.

Also gave the Manchukuo cores.

So they end up getting 80 IC excluding sinkiang.


Id go for a huge puppet rather than a few crappy small ones, even though balkanizing was what japan wanted to do.

having played as other nations, i've noticed a trend in japan AI that makes Japan very strong and almost unbeatable at some point.
it puppets nat china, nat china produces 300+ divisions, japan sends it all to india, not even using any of their own divs. by 1942, dowing of US leads to overrun of philippines and most pacific islands within a month. eventually it all ends in a stalemate though because USA catches up on diivisions and they both end up havng like 200+ divisions on these opposing island in the pacific or somewhere and just stare at each other for 5-6 years.

but the morale of this story is that puppeting nat china majorly improves japanese capabilities. instead of building any divisions, you can spend your building IC on either more factories, eventually making japan have like 300+ IC by 1945 (I did it once, since you're not in war with anyone anymore, unless you declare on the allies of course, you can turn japan into a superpower pretty quickly) or build tons and tons of carriers and prepare for some major USA bashing. unfortunately i wasn't able to get that far yet and I noticed a trend with game slowing down after us builds like 300 divisions (realism you say? I laugh at you) and puts them along the west pacific so tht I cant even land anywhere...but yeah, puppeting nat china is the best
