Billy,

The normal procedure is for the one missing a session to get his own sub. It is just normal courtesy but nevertheless people now and then write a post like you just did.

If you do not know so many people you can always advertise in this thread or in the stickid thread for sub-finding or create a new thread where you ask for a sub.

who made you to force start before DU1,5 was over and at rather late timeslot ?

Well, we seem to have as much problems now as we had when DU was going on. Indeed, even more problems, perhaps stemming from the fact that the reliability quotient of the current crew is worse than that of the crew we had a month or two ago or so. Even though that crew for some time included players like the HoG ;)

Well, he never finished a game I played with him. But I only have played in some 5 games with him. I know he claims to have finished several so I have probably only been a little unlucky. In fact, in a conversation I had with him he mentioned to me the name of another person who according to the HoG always quit. The Forum rules forbids me to name this guy publicly but I have him on my black list ;)

Anyhow, I think we all like very much to play with the HoG. He is fun to play with. Pity he disappears now and again.

Just to avoid any misunderstandings:

1. I will not look for any subs/perms from now on to the end of this game
2. I have during the week been in contact with some people, perhaps one of them will turn up
3. I know for sure that Wonko will turn up
4. I will be there tonight
5. I find the lack of postings in this thread alarming
6. Two days ago John was missing from TfG2 without telling anyone in advance (before that he played in the Thursday session I think, with horrible connection via a cellular telephone :D ), thus I would put him on the danger list for tonights session
7. I do not know if Dud is back
8. Therefore I would put AUS, ENG, FRA, POR, RUS and VEN on the reliable list for tonight as I would put Wonko
9. And NL, BB, OE and SPA on the unreliable list for tonight's session

Unfortunately, I am not reliable this week. My connection is acting up again :( (I am going to switch providers now). I can't even log on to ICQ as I post here, and I missed a very important session of The Royal Entente yesterday.

Sorry guys, If my conn holds long enough I'll post in the sub request thread.

Well, I hope Ampo had fun. On hearing Drake's report I've decided to resign from this game, since subs and technical troubles have rendered any attempt at diplomacy useless.

Lots of things can be said about this session, but most important is a ubber EVIL alliance can be beaten by good willing Allies

I'd say more the annoying super leaders Austria has. Hundreds of thousands died against that evil one. And you're the evil one! You attacked our peaceful alliance. Did teach me we needed a good naval power. Venice wasn't up to the job till recently, OE can never stay even in naval tech at that point. Did beat your navy a few times though. That was fun. Pity my navy couldn't move out of the med.

It would be banal for me to go into this extensively so ill just say :
  1. planned
  2. planned against a agressive blackmailing alliance with extensive MP
  3. planned , venice never was up to the job, not his fault, its alliance was the blame
  4. one oe navy victory, many defeats including a OE fleet in the middle east

It is very late but I couldn't sleep if i didn't write summary. We ended the game in 1709 what is not bad result for only couple of reliable permanent players. Thanks to our great subs we were able to keep going :). Now I wanted to short analyse all coutries played by humans in our game :

Portugal - small but efficent, leader of income until last war, when portugese trade was damaged. Held many CoT's and only OE finally captured one of them - Timbuktu. Rest of CoTs were unreachable for almost all nations thanks to portugese naval and tech supremacy. But Portugal is always only portugal - lack of manpower was main think limiting their warfare abilities. Some people may also say Portugal failed on diplomatic field at the beggining. It layed claims on all eastern world what led to not only the conflict with others (especially Frace), but loss of reputation - most of nations considered Porto as very agressive and too self-confident player. Portugese policies changed after lost war with Ottoman Empire and Porto found an ally in England. Their last war against Venice, OE and France was a great victory stamping succesfull portugese history. Good job Seen.

France - powerfull but peacefull giant. Very well administrated by Daniel turned into money maker of the first rate. Strong points of France were good economy, a lot of money, not bad technology and traditionally big MP and great generals. There was also place for week points: vulnerable colonies in Australia, Asia and Africe due to the lack of strong navy. Their external policies were full of idealism and honour, bringing friendship of most of the nations and most of all respect. Not very often involved in wars France fought for Venetian independece and prosperity and I cannot remember them attacking anyone without good reason. France's worst enemy was for sure Spain. Many years of wars between those two and in 1500's Spain had advantage while 1600's situation was very different. Good job Daniel.

Spain - warlike nation led by mad King John ;). I believe it added the flavour to the game. Even better it was the most influential coutries of all - it determined policies of France, OE, Venice, Portugal, Russia and England. Russia having Incas, French Mexico... it was all spanish job. Money from selling SA lands were invested in manufactiories (largest number of manus in the world) and armies that fought in Italy. Most of Italy was kept by Spaniards for many years that's why even withour SA traditional possesions they was considered as one of main powers. I must thank KJ, because I always wondered how would it be if Spain didnt go for indian land but expanded in Europe instead. Spain had not many friends, actually one but very loyal - Austria. We can say Spain really avoided diplomacy , focusing on using force.

Veneto - child of French / Ottoman marriage. "Parents" helped them to recover after very harmfull loss against Spain. With it's allies Venice was able to unite most of the Italy and become quite important power. It's existence brought some balance to the game, because France or Spain wasn't able to take all italian lands. Venetian fleet played also important role in last war against Porto and England.

Austria - nation of brave and quarrelsome warriors from the mointains. I can only remember them having heavy fights with no chances for success against OE. Loyal ally of Spain didn't seem to care if they can win or not. I've never known where are they taking all the resources for wars, but I admire Austrian stubbornes. Finally with good general and portugese and english allies it won against Venice and had many successfull battles against Ottoman.

Ottoman Empire
- it supposed to be one of major powers, so it was. Started by Hog, later led by Rinak had always luck for subs - in most cases it was Absolut(?) who every time did good job. Eternally tied with France fought against Spain and Austria. Austria could not match them, but wars against Spain were very even. OE avoided wars with it's natural enemy Russia. It was the only power that dared to stop Portugal from it's colonial expansion.

Brandenburg - very well played at the beginning, expanded very fast. Unification of Northern Germany became a fact in 2nd or 3rd session. Early ally of England as it was good couterweight to Sweden. Later on was very unlucky as for England alliance with Russia became more profitable. Allying with Sweden and attacking Russia was a big mistake that costed loosing Danzig and later becoming vassal of Russia. When Bb realised it was better to keep with England and Russia it was too late and Bb's importance in Europe greatly decreased . Last session it managed to break vassalisation and resist Russia.

Russia - I've never seen Russia like that - Inca Empire converted into orthodox. At the begging big enemy of England as it financed swedish efforts to recapture Sjaelland, later on it was convinced that allying with England and eating Sweden piece by piece would be much more desirable. Russia reached not bad tech levels, good income and it's Western borders on river Oder but it's ambitions were much bigger. Because of the missing last 2 sessions by fraese it will never accomplish partition of Sweden for example. Still good job by fraese :) .

Sweden - had absolutely no lack for players. Miroul was a newbie in MP and when he left many different subs had to take care of if and actually none of them actualy cared. Thanks to G2A it won single war against Russia but it was the last vicory in their history. Later on in long and exhausting war it had to give newly acquired lands to Russia. It also failed to build good reliations with England which put a lot of effort to break swedish power for good.

All of this is written from english point of view that's why I could write more about some nations and less abouth other. Maybe some other day I will improve the text. Right now it's almost 3 a.m. and I am very tired :)

Portugal - Portugal was played well and consistenly, including a risky transition to the reformed faith that was pulled off expertly. Despite hyperteching for the first century, Seen proved ready and willing to fight enemies many times his size for the last half of the game.

France - France survived terribly costly wars to emerge an economic powerhouse thanks to Daniel's expert administration. Always a soft touch ;) it was a testament to his diplomacy that Daniel was able to hold on to Mexico for many years without a competitive fleet.

Spain - Very interesting to watch KJ take Spain in a continental direction, and the highlight of this campaign has to be the turning of the tide where Iberia was almost completely occupied by France, Venice and the OE before Suleyman was killed and a moderate peace signed. The rest is history; lightning war vs France then Venice and then the OE to recover lost posessions. Whether this is attributed to a failure of the alliance or tactical excellence of KJ, or a bit of both, this period goes in my records as a comeback of Napoleonic proportions.

Veneto - Surprisingly succesful thanks to keeping the faith with strong allies. Couldn't have done much better than it did. Not a bad rookie performance by Freiksenet; hope to enjoy his company in future campaigns :)

Austria - This game was a road to golgotha for Austria from the start, when HG bent it over his knee for Hungary, but I hear it had some fun in the last session, so good job.

Ottoman Empire
- The OE at times looked as though it would run away with the game but constant war held it back. Never once fighting a war with Russia and holding Astrakhan and the Caucusus was a bit of an achievement on its own. A fine showing by the green monster.

Brandenburg - Brandenburg almost singlehandedly pulled Russia from the ranks of the leading powers and would have justly paid a dear price for it had Dud not wisely agreed to a long-term vassalization arrangement. Brandenburg had enormous potential but ultimately failed to live up to it, thanks to those repeated wars with Russia and Russian allies. However, Dud fought well, against the odds, and apparently his sub did too ;)

England - Took advantage of Swedish weakness to take Sjaelland from Denmark and never let it go; a very strong showing from Maciejus who wisely reciprocated Russian diplomatic overtures at the conclusion of the second Russo-English war, sealing the fate of Brandenburg and Sweden.

Sweden - Sucked. Two good showings, first by Kshar, then by Cheech, made it a very expensive thorn in the side for Russia nevertheless. However, this country could have been much more than an irritating prick with a decent perm from the start of the campaign.

Maciej inspired me to write my vision of history, not only because he forgot some crucial matters he wasnt involved in but also because i want to show that my true diplomacy wasnt based on "world domination" as some might have thought. This writing is of diffrent style than maciejs. Im purely portraying my visions mostly, since i dont know how others looked at matters (poor diplo award here)

Spain: Porto started as a loyal bitch of spain thinking if i scratch his back now he will do later. Clearly KJs cunningness involved selling Mexico to France which completely turned Portugeese suport for Spain 90 degrees (not 180 heh ). Wenn played he was a neighbour to consider but with failing attendance friends of spain had to take care of themselfs.

Austria: Bringing us to austria. Looking at income over the period it can only have survived with portos financial support. But even in periods i was selfish Brent actually managed not to get annexed! I agree with Maciej that he showed most survival skills in this game and gets the price suited for that: "I survived endless ganging and all i have is this lousy t-shirt" . Congrats! Last session after getting mountains of gold from me and england it finally won that great victory it always deservered. I hope Cheech will dedicate it to brent.

Brandenburg: Clearly not my terrain this game, dont know much about it. It had a war against england at start for its terrain but wenn i wanted to offer suport they had allied with them :D So actually quite nice diplomacy there on both fronts. They seemed to handle pretty well all game even been warred by russia multiple times. Bravo! Also joined gang of Sweden which we didnt like that much.

Sweden: Being subbed so many times hard to give one opinion about them. We had plans with them but with no perm agreements faded. Big wars it won with *cough* some help financially but it did a tremendous job (namely cheech). Sad it wasnt permed to get a serious role in this game.

Russia: In my perspective always handled with caution. Having suddenly a huge mp neighbour in SA was not a pleasant surprise. But after initial hardache relations were easier and became actually a friend. Sadly it focused its energy on BB and Sweden instead of the targets we asked it to war. Clearly one of the most accomplished nations for the time period we played.

OE.jpg

OE: Not really a "friend" . We both went for africa, i won the race but he payed me back by winning Timbuktu. Respected enemy though, his mp was endless and i couldnt coop but last two wars Porto made decent gains making me confident enough to war you full pull. Sadly i couldnt get him away from the "evil empire" alliance which was not good for the game imo, but OE acted in its best intrest and so the final war was a fact.

Venice: Freik knows my opinion about his nation (not him personaly) but he was of course in this game burdned with a very agressive KJ. What else could he do than ally with his enemies? Sadly he refused at any point to consider a alternative alliance so it was as maciej putted nicely "married" with the two majors. Imo his greatest victory is against porto-english fleet at gibraltar , sadly he couldnt exploint this victory.

france.jpg

France2.jpg

FRANCE: aka Evil Empire (in my book). Endless hours i have spend plotting against you! Clearly worth to be called my nemesis in this game. I payed Spain thousands to win from you, after that Austria not to get overrun and then tried to persuade all to war against you. Your colonising speed was dazeling and no one else wanted to see that :D Second half of the game we had a fragile Trade agreement for both our benefits but we both knew it was only to last till that big war would come. Sadly it came 2 sessions later than actually was planned due to known reasons but you gave a good fight."I fought seen and lost but had fun" t-shirt

england.jpg

England: Last but not least , my loyal ally. Which he wasnt for most of the game ;) . England and me lived on a very thin line of me claiming all of the east, and he trying to stay my friend. I actually funded enemies of England at the low point of our relationship since i was sure France won another close friend. This was untrue looking afterwards altough Maciej kept refusing outright war with Daniel because "he never was against England". Luckily for the game my persuading resulted in our glorious alliance. Even with my horrible diplomacy but thanks to Maciej still resulted in a fair "split of the world" for both of us, and resulting in a final victory on the Evil Alliance(tm). This resulted in the precious : "I was patient enough to stand seens endless arguing and became its winning ally" t-shirt :D
