...I'm honestly stumped, apart from being extremely disappointed. No Rome II, no Victoria III, but three games in the works. What else remains? Dark Ages, Cold War, Modern Days; the second, after EvW, is unlikely, and Johan has expressed extreme distaste for the third. It leaves minor games (which have been all terrible, up to now) or out-of-genre, which with Runemaster worked out...poorly. I can't see anything bright in PDS's future, to be honest.

Are there three PDS games in the works? One is HOI4, I assume, so two unknown?

If there are two that aren't Victoria or Rome I'm very interested. Not because I wouldn't want to see those, but because it may mean fresh titles.

I personally don't understand the aversion towards vicky 3/Rome 2. They are guaranteed cash cows. No seriously. They are part of the main paradox series (well, vicky is at any rate) and they already have a great base gameplay AND tons of loyal fans.

I for one am happy they aren't just making those games as cash cows. They said they need someone to want to take lead on them first. That should result in a better game than forcing one out for dollars/SEK.

(Not that I necessarily agree about the cash cow part... The number of loyal fans those franchises have is dwarfed by the sales they've made with CK2 or EU4.)

Maybe sci-fi, they said they like it
That looks awesome! I wish they will try to do grand strategy game with Sci-fi and both peaceful and battle, and not in a hexagon board should be nice too.
How about going to new planet but [the goverment decide to ignore you/ the signal suddenly gone and you can't contact them/ crash on that planet / just landing but the signal transmitter gone wrong and can't contact back etc.] You and your crews have to try to stay alive and do anything as you can and have to do something like diplomacy with other alien tribe or civilized alien to help and survive with some elements from EU4 and CK2 should be fun too.
It's a bit like Ck2 meets EU4 plus adventure style mixing with grand strategy game. And since this is sooooooooo far into the future devs can put their creativity into it without worry about controversy that much. Just my opinion. :3

I get the impression, sometimes, that some folks lead Paradox as if it was their personal playground. See for instance Runemaster, where they tried to develop a game just because they wanted to play it themselves (and failing miserably). Or when they make certain changes to games based on their weekly multiplayer sessions at their offices.

I was hoping more for grand strategy with planets instead of provinces
but still, these are only hopes, there are very high chances that they won't make sci-fi game at all

What I pray for is Paradox game devoted to 'the Dark Ages' or, more precisely, the period between the fall of Rome and deep medieval, and not centered on Europe.

I am talking about game in 500 - 1100 or 700 - 1300 period with Europe, northern half of Africa, Middle East, Central Asia, India and Orient.

Main theme of this game: migrations of people and establishment of civilisations, as in this period the Christian Europe, Islamic World and much more societies emerged.

Features:
- Rise or fall of Byzantium
- Consolidation or fall of Christianity including clash between sects and denominations + Papacy
- Rise or fall of Islam including clash between heirs of Muhammad + Caliphate
- Rise or fall of European post-barbaric kingdoms
- ...and obviously Charlemagne Empire
- Fate of Vikings
- Fate of Slavs, subsequent migrations of people into Europe, clash between them, their cultures and religions and Roman Christianity
- Eventual survival of Zoroastrian Sassanid Persia
- First states emerging in West Africa (Ghana, Mali, Kanem Bornu, Hausa) + fate of Ethiopia
- Indian empires
- Spread of Buddhism
- Steppe empires before Mongols
- First states emerging in South East Asia (Funan, Khmer, Pagan, Srivivaya)
- Unification of China, Japan and Korea
- Fate of Jews! Historical Beta Israel kingdom in Ethiopia, historical Judaistic Khazarian empire, diaspora etc

Dynamic province ownership, migrations, establishing cities, melting pots of cultures, rise of feudalism...

Possible start dates: Justinian the Great, Rise of Islam, Charlemagne, Holy Roman Empire

I would play this to death.

Crusader Kings II?

The continued existence of console gaming never ceases to amaze me.

I had PS3 and I liked it because I could just turn it on and play. I didn't have to search for games, I didn't have download patches or search the internet for why the game isn't working (video card drivers obviously!!!). I think I've spend more time trying to get Total War games just to work then actually playing them.

Couple this with the same time period where PC game companies were doing 'pre-orders' and then releasing shit games - Bam, people love consoles.
You work 8-10 hours a day all week you want to be able to just come home flip the console switch and shoot some stuff.

As long as consoles have no need for the gamer to learn how to program then consoles will be popular.
Now if console game companies get lazy and release games that don't work then it fails.
