What I pray for is Paradox game devoted to 'the Dark Ages' or, more precisely, the period between the fall of Rome and deep medieval, and not centered on Europe.

I am talking about game in 500 - 1100 or 700 - 1300 period with Europe, northern half of Africa, Middle East, Central Asia, India and Orient.

Main theme of this game: migrations of people and establishment of civilisations, as in this period the Christian Europe, Islamic World and much more societies emerged.

Features:
- Rise or fall of Byzantium
- Consolidation or fall of Christianity including clash between sects and denominations + Papacy
- Rise or fall of Islam including clash between heirs of Muhammad + Caliphate
- Rise or fall of European post-barbaric kingdoms
- ...and obviously Charlemagne Empire
- Fate of Vikings
- Fate of Slavs, subsequent migrations of people into Europe, clash between them, their cultures and religions and Roman Christianity
- Eventual survival of Zoroastrian Sassanid Persia
- First states emerging in West Africa (Ghana, Mali, Kanem Bornu, Hausa) + fate of Ethiopia
- Indian empires
- Spread of Buddhism
- Steppe empires before Mongols
- First states emerging in South East Asia (Funan, Khmer, Pagan, Srivivaya)
- Unification of China, Japan and Korea
- Fate of Jews! Historical Beta Israel kingdom in Ethiopia, historical Judaistic Khazarian empire, diaspora etc

Dynamic province ownership, migrations, establishing cities, melting pots of cultures, rise of feudalism...

Possible start dates: Justinian the Great, Rise of Islam, Charlemagne, Holy Roman Empire

I would play this to death.

I would rather them not touch the Age of Migrations at all, because of both how poorly they handled migration mechanics in the past (let's just take a look at CKII for a moment), and because of how touchy the topic could possible be.

A game about China is unlikely considering Sengoku was a failure in term of profits and Rajas of India still have it's share of hostility. Not that I approve the Euro-centric view, but PI still have to make profits and those games would probably be less profitable.

One of the game in development could be a World War One game tough it would be redundant with HoI4...

I just hope at least 2 of theses games are strategy games.

Gotta love Paradox for what they admit on camera. Go to any other dev and they would be making up excuses for that whole 45 minute session. Anyway, this was the nail in the coffin for Victoria III rumors.

LOL, I was 5 min into the video and had to stop. Where they admit it was broken and Angry Joe says "wow, i've never heard that....um.... well, don't do it again!". And then they said they did give refunds.

Respect for paradox just increased by +25.

A Three Kingdoms piece would be pretty popular, I think.

As far as historical eras go, the Three Kingdoms Period is probably the most well known to the West, as least as far as China is concerned. Plus, KOEI already carved out a little niche for fans with Dynasty Warriors and (more relevantly) the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series.

I can't see it materializing, but if Paradox did another game in East Asia, I'd put money on the Three Kingdoms Period before anything else.

Province based Age of Migration could work but it would have to be a very different Clauswitz game if it was one.

Personally the Age of Migration game I want is a Mount and Blade meets Eve Online MMO. Guilds would be tribal confederations, players would be barbarians, Rome would be the GM faction that gave quests.

The strategy game I really want is a Bronze Age middle east and Mediterranean game with a proper trading goods system. Pheonicians and Assyrians need more games.

The way CK2 expansions are going, I half expect them to release a 476 scenario eventually, or at least I would if not for the drama potential. Apart from the Völkerwanderung, one issue I can see is that depicting the birth of Islam would either mean depicting Muhammad as an in-game character, or abstracting him away somehow (but how, given CK2's mechanics?), either of which would cause massive controversy.

When they were talking about DLC and monetization, I have a small concern. I dont mind the DLC itself, but when it is released so close to release it becomes odd. The old expansion plan where you release a game, then wait almost a year to release something else, always felt that it was more the devs playing the game and releasing that "hey, we should add this in". With the DLC released so close to each other it feels more "Well we are doing this NOW, but as soon as this is done, we will work on that". Which isnt to say that is bad, but if you include it at the same time then you have more content for the original game/expansion pack. It also means you dont have as many DLC.

Also I do believe the word DLC is more the culprit. DLC has this money grab stigma to it, whereas Expansion Pack doesnt.

Edit: Also can we stop asking the softball question "How important are the fans/feedback?". Is there ever someone in their right mind that is gonna say "None. We dont care about them or their feelings"? That is a HORRIBLE question.

I see. Well thanks for that. Maybe I just look at the "old" days with nostalgia tinted glasses. I just always prefered the bigger every so often releases than the every few months things. Hell I still buy the DLC that way. I'll wait until 2 or 3 big ones are released and then get them all at the same time.

Rajas of India did great.. Sengoku less so.. Sincerely doubt we'll ever make a China-focused game.

You should consider making a game in the vein of ROTK X but set in a European state, like the HRE.

Ehh... HRE is a no-go because it had so much interaction with the states around it. ROTK works because China was sufficiently isolated.

Not sure where else you could do this, to be honest. Britain? Roman invasions, then Nordic invasions, then battles with France... Egypt? Sufficiently isolated if you go far back enough, but not really the same kind of fun warring states situation.

I guess maybe Central Africa or the Americas? That actually might be kind of interesting.

I'd also love to see a Polynesian game zoomed way in, focused on developing an uninhabited island that your migrant boats just arrived at.

Good interview, learned a lot from it. No one is "holier than the pope", meaning that even Paradox will do its tricks to earn money.

However they are not nearly as greedy and evil as some other companies out there. In fact I applaud Paradox and their ways of communicating and dealing with the community.

Now please focus on reducing clicking, implement a building queue for a province, why can I queue regiments but not buildings?

Any outside interaction could be made into random, semi random, or even mapped events, not unlike how Ck2 handles hordes and the like.

edit: by mapped I mean historically based events. The world outside the HRE would follow the same path it did historically but the HRE would be dynamic.

Rajas of India did great.. Sengoku less so.. Sincerely doubt we'll ever make a China-focused game.

Are you sure? Once censure is lessened that is one hell of a gamer market ready to be conquered for the more "political" amongst games. And Chinese history and culture seems to me like an awesome base to start a game.
