As an American, I have to agree that the US education system has turned out largely uneducated people.
The US education system instructs people on how to parrot, not how to think.
Yeah, to parrot!

P.S. Educational institutions serve the interests of those who control the education - sometimes parents, sometimes not. The tendency toward Federal and state regulatory and financial coercion of school districts to follow policies from above and the curtailment of parental involvement role has certainly reduced quality in what were once considered the important topics - reading, writing, math, history, civics - in the tax-funded primary and secondary schools. The universities have declined as greatly in recent decades as their costs have escalated, although intelligent and motivated students can and do still get a legitimately useful educations.
It's sad that the educational products of primary (6th grade) education a century and a half ago are impressive compared to those of very many high schools today.
But let's also blame tech and the wireless culture for indifference to vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar - now considered dispensable - and a taste for bombardment by multiple data feeds rather than taking time to organize data into actual food for thought and generating valued conclusions. That HOI4 is moving in the new Paradox direction of more practical and informative UI should help with the younger generation.
I'm lolling at how many people don't know angry joe he's the best, even better than pewdiepie
Wow, My fanboy alarm is ringing.I'm lolling at how many people don't know angry joe he's the best, even better than pewdiepie
What Angry Joe is some guy who plays strategy games? And he doesn't know what Cede is?
I watched it for about 1 minute before deciding the guy is a total idiot and turned it off.
I wouldn't say he's total idiot, but yeah going blindly into any Paradox title and trying to present it to others, really isn't the smartest thing to do.
That depends on your aim. His impressions are very representative of and therefore very interesting to the average gamer, and his target audience is not the niche grand strategy gamers but gamers in general. It's neither his intention nor his task to go in as prepared or knowledgeable as a niche player (for any game or genre).

That's not saying mucheven better than pewdiepie
In my opinion letting angry joe do this lets play was not a very good idea.
He did not seem to understand a bit of HOI IV and also did not help the viewers a bit. I think the typical hearts of iron player is not watching angry joe or someone like him on youtube anyways.
It may attract a new type of player, but I think most of them would not like a complex game like Hearts of Iron is and then give negative reviews, because they don't even try to understand and then get beaten by the AI.
I would really like to see a lets play with marco antonio very soon, although he might beat the game rather fast, but he really takes the time to understand the game mechanics and explains them to the viewer instead of just talking to entertain someone.
I think the preview was way too rushed. HOI4 only got a about 10 minutes while Stellaris got 40. Both games should've gotten 40 minutes, or if that's not possible due to time constraints, both games should've gotten 25 minutes. Watching the video, I felt like they were rushed.
It also looked like in the preview, the Dev made the attack plan of Poland much more complicated then it had to be. Sure, going the extra mile to do those really complicated plans that could potentially make the invasion a little more quick and efficient is good, but for the general purpose of just showing off Hearts of Iron 4, especially as a game that is meant to be definitively easier to learn and understand than Hearts of Iron 3, it didn't look very good.
From what I've seen from his Twitch, I don;t thinkI most of his viewers would like to watch him play a GSG. Just my impression.
Well, your comment does make sense. On the other hand, there are people on Youtube who make a lot of money playing video games.Watching people play GSG sounds just insane to me... It´s even worse than someone reading a book to you, the whole point of games is being... dunno... interactive? And reward you for playing well?
That doesn´t happen at all in such a video... Terrible waste of time unless the video is about explaining specific mechanics and trying to teach something. Watching people play for the sake of play... FFS... why?
I took a brief look at this character Angry Joe's work, which is high-energy edgy and highly vocal reviews of games he has played for a significant time and involving strong opinions, wisecracks, etc. but also a serious look at the pros and cons and motivations and impediments offered to players, based on his experience. These reviews seem to run 20 or 30 minutes or more and are based on many hours of play. The preview was around ten minutes with no prior briefing or time to play.
Because it was an accelerated intro and preview, it was unfortunately a bit of a struggle. Our courageous dev was heroically trying to offer enough coaching to let her guest get started in playing/understanding the game in the overly format of a few minutes. Angry Joe seemed willing to pleasantly receive and process her explanation while keeping up some enlivening patter in his characteristic energetic style, relatively patiently looking for a coherent view of the meaning of what was happening on screen (too fast) and finding the core motivations for playing. A longer preview would have been more accommodating to the guest and allowed something more than the drama-free "push the plan button and quickly Poland surrenders." That lacked drama, much more so the any epic danger of a nation venturing virtually alone into war while unprepared to face a rapidly growing coalition against it.
Too bad Daniel couldn't do this preview with Angry Joe. His overflowing enthusiasm for the game is contagious and his ability to play and converse effectively even in the cut and thrust of battle should help bring across the epic but accessible nature of the game and why it can exert such a compelling, addictive effect. A taste for history, once acquired, can become addictive as well. Angry Joe seems the type to be able to convey gamer motivation and concerns to his audience - potential HOI4 players.
And make the demo a good one that focuses a lot on motivation to play rather than just mechanics.

P.S. Can any one point me to a place where I can change fonts and size on these forums for more readability on small screens?
