Not the best way to advertise such a complex title I would think. He being less of a grognard and more of a "action" oriented titles.
Don't get me wrong. I agree with most of his opinions on the game he has reviewed, but you don't just "jump in" to a Paradox game like HoI if you don't have some general experience with a prior incarnation. And you certainly don't cast any sort of judgment based on "frustration" or "overwhelming" user-interface that, by design, is geared toward managing the minutia of total-war.
I'd think it would take at least 2 or 3 full play-throughs to begin to have an understanding of the core game functionality, responsiveness, AI capability and replay ability. Therfore, it would likely take a dedicated reviewer several days (if not a week) of focused, analytical and objective play to offer the kind of testing and evaluation that I would consider actionable and valuable.
I look forward to laughing at his strategic ineptitude either way.
Btw...Paradox need any more testers/evaluators/forumite/unknown-reviewers/me's to take-on Hearts of Iron IV? Please consider me.
