So I have a question in regards to this shift within SWMH. Are there date requirements like in vanilla? Like if I take England as Norse and switch to Englisc, do I have to wait until year xxxx and then be Norman for my culture to shift to English?

The Englisc melting pot waits until 900 just to make sure that the Norse invasions aren't a flash in the pan.

Off the top of my head I believe the English melting pot occurs after year 1100 if England is ruled by a Norman/French king.

I fact I think the restrictions for English are quite strict in that the ruler must be norman rather than just french culture_group, in my own games I'm modding this so that all french culture group get it and moving the timing back to 900 as theres no reason that an england with a french king in 950 should wait until 1100 before cultural assimilation begins.

Event #55002 is the Melting Pot:

You must:
1) Be of Norman culture
2) Be the year 1100 or later
3) Any province in your demesne must be inside the England region and be either Saxon, Danish, or Anglonorse, and there must be at least one non-nomadic holding in said demesne.

Even then, the average time for it to happen is 100 years, starting from 1100. It speeds up based on your Learning, stepping at 7, 9, 11, and 13. And slows down massively if you have learning of 4 or lower. Then, one of the provinces with those three cultures converts to English.

What's happened to me before is I was Norman, but I managed to Norman-ize all my demesne and thus didn't have Saxon/Danish/Anglonorse to merge with.

Once you have English in your demesne, it spreads to any of those three cultures, plus to your other Normans, average of 60 years to fire. 20% faster if you have the convert a culture ambition. Unfortunately, there is scripting for converting your Courtiers, but it only works between 1100AD and 1200AD, so if you get unlucky or have bad Learning and you don't get your conversion until after 1200, you lose the benefits of that event that tidies up your courtiers. However, the one that works on your vassals has no time limit.

Wondering if people think the conditions are too hard now, seems like the time limit for courtiers at least is a bit extreme and I would also be in favour of extending the melting pot to any latin_culture ruler with a captial in England as 1) I don't see why the assimilation of french speaking rulers into a new English culture should be norman specific and 2) At the moment it makes English incredibly unlike to arise in a 867 start.

Also more generally I see that the latest versions of EMF have totally removed events that converted non ruler characters to the culture of their province, what was the rationale for that as it would seem to make cultures even less likely to be preserved...

Frankly, in 867 the chance of modern English occurring at some point in the future was pretty damn unlikely - however, I do actually want to have a good overhaul of some Britain mechanics, so I'll be taking a look at these kind of events.
