I'm Playing as italy, get DoWd Colonial by Turkey. I control Oman as a colony, they control Yemen as territorry. So, no matter how many men i transport in, i can't get enough troops there fast enough to hold off the onslaught. meanwhile, I can't attack them anywhere else! Why should Italy not be able to escalate the war!? If i could fight them on all fronts i would beat them.

Should it bother my concience to change the war in the files to a regular war?

No. Colonial wars in my opinion are nonsense. You can bet a real Italy in your situation would not hesitate to apply pressure on the Dardanelles if the situation in the southern Arabian Peninsula escalated.

As a rule, I automatically escalate colonial wars if another civilized power is involved. The war should reflect the leading combatants - in your case, both alliance leaders are civilized and the war should be conducted in such a fashion.

Yeah agreed. In reality any colonial war in the Victorian era would have probably escalated into conflicts within Europe, or wherever the mother country was.

I think the only good point of a colonial war is that it stops you getting your homelands invaded - thus is you suspect a war, you could declare a colonial war, and return to status quo after a while (or take some hopefully!). This would enact a peace treaty, and so keep you safe for a bit longer.

Yes, colonial wars between two civilized countries are nonsense. Even more so because they disable (instead of making easier) the possibility of a full war between the involved countries.

Colonial wars should only be possible when an unciv is involved, because being at war with an unciv should not be able to stop you from declaring another war (since you can only have one full war).

Of all concepts in Victoria, that of colonial wars is my absolute least favorite.

Ahistorical for the time period, dramatically inhibits player freedom of action, and the AI does not use them properly.

Defintiely a concept that could benefit from drastic scrutiny by those who are working with the source code under license from Paradox.

here here! i wouldn't hate them so much if it was possible to escalate the conflict by either combatant

I'll always hate them! :) ahaha! They just aren't realistic to be fair... like... they would not have happened. As OHgamer said, they don't fit the time period of the game.

Also, does anyone know how long those with the source code have it licensed to them?? As in... when is the earliest we might expect a patch for Victoria, perhaps?? Or is this against the NDA to know (as well! ) ??

Yeah, I think colonial wars cannot be started by event, so thus they had to make it a full war.
