And suddenly... subsidies?

I'm honestly surprised to see this happening:

Tuscany game, expanded a bit around in Italy (enough to form the usual Coalition blobs) and then engaged in a war against Naples/Aragorn/Italian minors with my ally France. At some random point (with me running on -7/month), suddenly I get a message telling me Castille is supporting me with 4.21 per month in War Subsidies.
Sure, it makes sense since I'm fighting Aragorn, who is their rival. But I really didn't think the AI would actual employ monetary gifts (often) of any kind, much less utilize the subsidies function.

They didn't for ages, but Wiz has mentioned that it was one of the things he has been working on.

I've gotten subsides as Brandenburg by Denmark before while fighting either BOH, TEU, and DEN, or all three don't remember. Was a few patches ago, but also the only time i've seen it happening.

 

[Incompetent]

The AI often gives money to its subject nations and countries it hopes to bring into its sphere of influence. By the sounds of it you are a little too big for that, though.

I only had ~7 provinces and a 2province milano vassal.

But meh anyways, Castille suddenly cancelled the subsidies and just rivalled me instead. *shrug* AI things.
