With the new DLC coming out and everything, I'm speculating on which Republics will be included. It seems only Duchy level Republics and higher will be playable, which I think would be too bad, maybe county level ones could have just three families and no trade posts until they upgrade to a Duchy? Anyways, this leads me to point out that in one of the screenshots Ancona is just county level, which would make it unplayable if my assumption is correct. Couldn't it be given the Duchy level title of Ancona to make it a full merchant republic? I think it had some influence as a maritime power, and it would be really cool to challenge Venice in the Adriatic kind of like Pisa rivals Genoa. Maybe that role would be better filled by Ragusa, which doesn't seem to be in either, which is an even bigger travesty. I'm just hoping there will be lots of options and not just four (Venice, Genoa, Pisa, Gotland). Creating Republics from Duchies as stated in the article doesn't really help us play as them, especially if there's absolutely no way of switching to them. The more flexibility the better in my opinion.
Aside from that, any ideas on what other Republics should be included? Bari and Amalfi are good candidates, and even though I know it won't happen it would be cool if they just held the city independently of the local Count but got titular Duchy titles to make them full Republics with trade. I can't think of any more right now but I bet the HRE has tons of possibilities, many of which would be good if they make County level Republics (Grand Cities?) playable.
