Btw, just a heads-up, I don't know why but mid-way through the game Vestalis initiations begin to slow the game down a lot. A couple of days before each initialization request from my vassals, the game freezes for some seconds. It got to a point where from like 1350 onward, I had to refuse all Vestalis requests, and that allowed the game to keep running somewhat smoothly.

I don't know about that courtier stuff. I had to educate my heir to the Gaelic wizard, I didn't get an event from him. And I had like 5 wizards before I decided to educate. >_>

Edit: That is, one wizard would die and I'd get a new one a few months/years later.

I deleted all Mods. I am going to start the game up with no mods activated then reinstall a fresh copy of the mod.. might work..


EDIT: No luck.. going to reinstall the game. Could be just something wrong on my end or something if you cannot reproduce the CTD.

EDIT 2: Still CTDs.. at this point I have absolutely no idea what is wrong. :/

I would like to know if the new faiths are exported with the stats in the game, or if they are simply generic pagans with names. That would be pretty unfortunate.

Hello; I've been attempting to get this mod to work together with VIET and PB, but when I look at the screen where you are supposed to decide which character you will play as, I notice that quite a lot of characters have a (partially) black-obscured portrait.
Now, I'm fairly new to playing CK 2 with mods, so I might be missing something obvious. Either way, this happens when the following mods are loaded:

AKROpack Armories
Ancient Religions - PB + VIET
Ancient Religions Reborn
PB - VIET CORE
PB - VIET Defines
PB - VIET Events
PB - VIET Immersion
PB - VIET Traits
Project Balance

I'm using the 1.11 patch and the non-beta version of Ancient Religions. The problem doesn't repeat itself if I don't play Ancient Religions, and it doesn't repeat itself either if I play the vanilla game with just Ancient Religions added on top of it.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

@Gelscressor: It is a VIET thing. If you do not have ALL of the portrait DLCs, then as mentioned in the VIET installation instructions, you have to apply the portrait fix located in the customization options folder where further instructions should be located. Even if you do have ALL the portrit DLCs it is worth a try. If you're still having issues feel free to mention them in the VIET thread.

I've been having the same problem as Svo. I started a game as a Hellenic Byzantine Emperor (Old Gods start date) played awhile, saved and quit. Today, when I tried to play. I could load up my game, but as soon as it's about to start, it CTD's. Can't figure out why. Using the same checked off mods that I did yesterday when I started up. (Ancient religions PB+VIET, Ancient Religions Reborn, Viet assets, and Project Balance).

Hello, and first of all thanks for this flavourful mod. I think I have a bug here though. I'm playing as king of brittany, just started the event chain to switch to brythonic faith. However, when I switch faiths, the 5th holy site of the religion is blacked out in the religion screen, and hovering mouse over it crashes the game. I poked around the landed_titles files a bit, and it seems in PB_VIET_PATCH_ACR/common/landed_titles/landed_titles.txt on entry for k_brittany, c_vannes is missing the holy site string for druidic. c_vannes is designated as druidic holy site in Ancient Religion/common/landed_titles/landed_titles.txt. Just guessing since I'm not a coder/modder myself but maybe this difference is the problem causing the crashing? Gonna try manually editing the holy site into the other txt file now and see if it works.

Oh, in case it wasnt obvious from file paths, I'm running PB+full VIET+ACR.

::EDIT:: Yeah, editing the missing lines into the txt-file seemed to fix the problem, at least the holy site is visible now and no crashes. Oh and of course meant b_locmine inside c_vannes and not c_vannes itself. Anyway back to de jure drifting the british isles into a celtic Brittany megastate :p ::EDIT::

Haha no, dont worry, the main problem right now is that I've started university on the third and between moving to a new city, managing the school start, doing the homework and meeting LOADS of new people, its been a little hard to find time for modding :p But I'll be trying to get a little work done this week!

It's only been 5 days, have some patience. It's a great mod and Superskierpat deserves that at least.

  • Add new religious icons for future updates

Merging of Druidism:
  • Merge Gaelic and Brythonic druidism into Celtic paganism
  • Arrange localisations for Celtic paganism, titles, god names, etc.
  • Hebrides start Celtic in 863.
Druidic caste:
  • This will be represented by a “Druid” trait ingame. This trait can only be attained after a 15 year long training with another druid, this training will start as soon as the child reaches maturity.
  • A coming of age ceremony for children
  • The druidic training event chain will lead to either attaining the druidic trait or one of the following lifestyle traits: Scholar, Poet, Mystic.
  • Court Druid and Court Bard now essential traits, they will open up new event chains.
  • A Court Druid will allow you to have a Spiritual Counsellor and also open up the various religious decisions, like the Tailteann games, divination rites and etc.
  • Having a Court Bard will allow you to host a new Bardic Performance.
  • An overhaul of the divination chain to make it more reactive.
Celtic Mechanics:
  • To represent the high religiosity of the Celts, every province ruled by a celtic pagan, will receive a modifier, this modifier will showcase either a sacred place, animal or object in the region. While this process will be generally random, with a few tags coming into action, certain provinces will receive unique modifiers. These modifiers could then be used as triggers for certain flavor events.
  • The first Welsh and Breton celtic pagan King or Emperor in Britain will be able to claim one of the thirteen treasures of Britain as a symbol of his legitimacy, this treasure is then passed down from father to son.
  • Irish and scottish celtic pagan rulers are obliged to abdicate their thrones if they gain the maimed, blinded, castrated or incapable traits.
  • An event to change the name of the celtic holy sites when they are captured.
  • Druidic heresies
  • Celtic Flavor events
Holy Orders and Mercenaries:
  • The Fianna will be vassalized by the king of Ireland.
  • The Sons of Gwydion will be turned into a mercenary group called the “Wolf Tails”, their leader will be a landless adventurer with a claim on a welsh province.
  • There will be an irish druid among the Wolf Tails and if they are successful, he will go to Ireland and try to convert a ruler.

I dont know if this has come up before, but ive had an idea for another ancient religion which would more or less, require no work as it could use all the TOG norse stuff.

Anglo-Saxon Paganism. Wodanism?

It would be triggered by a smart [good traits or high learning] Saxon or English culture, Norse Pagan (reformed or unreformed) religion character being an independent ruler [duchy or higher] in de jure England taking a decision to reclaim England from the Norsemen without resorting to christianity.

Representing a liberational movement in a norse dominated england, with the converted to paganism by their viking overlords english/saxon nobility throwing off the nordic yoke without abandoning their new found paganism by 'reviving' the faith of their fore-fathers.
Possibly the decision would have some name along the lines of Reclaim the Legacy of Wodan.
Maybe they'd get claims of all norse culture held titles in de jure england along with it?

Maybe with the religion as a 'heresy' of Reformed Norse Paganism [by event if it exists at the time of schism], and probably starting off Reformed to represent it being created politically, organised to support the reclaimation of england.
And mechanic/event wise it could just use all Norse' stuff but with Odin changed to Wodin and etc references to nordic locations/history changed to english stuff.

It works as a plausible religion to survive as A. It died within the living memory of very old people at the start of the game,
B. Aside from Fairies, Elves and Dragons being more important, its basically the same as the Norse religion which is flooding into England at the start of the game,
C. In the context of Norse Pagan English rulers finding themselves an identity distinct from their conquerors and a divine right that supports them and denounces the overlords, it makes sense.

About Fianna vassalized...since almost always, AI doesn't converts to gaelic/druidic, so only player uses it, I've made Fianna/Gwydion vassals of their creators

Actually we are planning adding heresies to reformed pagans, just to keep them interesting, and a more german paganism is the first one we thought of! I don't know yet how many declinations we will create, but we'll see.

should the hebrides really be celtic pagan in 867?
I'm setting some very light alternate history here ;) But the hebrides were pretty remote and some places like st kilda were rumored to have traces of druidic cults right up to the 18th century! So I'm allowing for some leniency and putting the whole archipelago as celtic :p

Addendum: When I went to load up my game, my character had grown a magnificent beard. Now, I'm not averse to magnificent beards, but I didn't give it to him, which leads me to believe it's a by-product of whatever's causing my game to crash.
Thanks, hmm I've seen that happen in vanilla as well, but I'll investigate.

Edit: I'm not sure its the source of the crash, but I just reread your earlier post and you wrote that you're only using viet assets, in that case, try the game with the PB com patch only and not the viet + PB one, since that patch is made for viet immersion (or viet core) and is not necessary for viet assets, traits or events.
