Are you going to try to annex the entire country or will you try to get the Bitter Peace? The Bitter Peace is basically Stalin offering peace once you control most provinces west of the Urals plus a few other provinces east of there.

For total annexation, remember, it's a LOOOONG way to Vladivostok through swamps and mountains. Here paratroopers are great, also mountaineers are good. Another thing you can do is to invade Vladivostok from the sea. Whatever you do, you want to try to knock out as much Soviet manpower as possible before you get bogged down in the mountains. I typically do two things: 1. Pull back a few provinces and counterattack from favorable positions to create a new pocket, and 2. Attack provinces in open terrain (no forest, hills, etc.) held by mainly infantry with only panzer and mechanized units, but without doing any bombing initially. That way, the enemy units sustain a maximum amount of strength loss. Reinforcing these units will be a massive drain on the enemies manpower pool.

Hehehe, I am evil!!! :D

I'm afraid I've reached the limit of my skills. I've got allies now, but they seem to be just distracting the Allied Powers, which is buying me time. My tech is solid (117 org) for land forces. Currently catching up in air techs. I'm very close to completing the nuke tech tree. Here is what I have left. The three I'm currently researching will be finished soon (1 hr; 29 days; 43 days).

nuke_research.jpg

The US, UK, etc are pushing hard in Italy. I've got 18 mixed divisions in the mountain province of Bologna blocking their way. So far, I've 2 fronts like this w/ them that are static. The other is near Greece (Tirana). Concerning the Soviets, I've three fronts on Stalingrad, but I'm heistant to hit them there yet. Trying to get some panzers (32 SA; 35 HA) over there first, but its slow w/ low manpower. If the SU was a human player, they could brek through at any time, w/ 40+ divisions marching all over the place. I brought Persia into the war. At first, I thought it was a mistake because they're so weak, but it is distracting the SU. I'm hoping Japan can put more pressure on the US and Australia, and provide some bombers east of the Urals.

I saw a thread here about loading nukes. I need to read it, check on how to deliver them. About nukes, do they only affect the province where they're dropped (in case I need to move some forces from the area. Hope I get there.

Its 6 March '43; just over 3.5 years to go. ???

when Japan isn't axis - you don't need Wladi-whatever,

important - take your atlas and draw a line between Leningrad-Moskow-Wolgograd (formerly known as Stalingrad) - now you see why don't want Japan in your little club before you've take out Sovietsky Soyuz,

Once more some opinion (you took the last one too good  ): My guess is that you spend far too much IC on Research - I´m normally starting nukes after GB and Russia are gone. With their ICs I catch up in all areas (air, navy, nukes etc) for finishing the US & Japan.

I definitely prefer tanks + eng (beginning with Basic Medium 75mm) to Mech divisions because they last longer and can hit harder (especially with german or russian leaders). For cities, hills, mountains and following up 150 german inf div will manage fine.

My timeline: in March 1939 I start the great war with about 130 inf divs and 13 tank divs. Russia&US unually declare (BB) war on me in 1940 or 1941. After 6-18 Month Russia is annexed (problem Vladivostok)

I only play normal/aggressive :)

Okay, I did a test run w/ an A-bomb. I scheduled it to drop on Stalingrad at 1 AM while those Ruskies were either asleep or drunk w/ vodka. I had a 16 division army marching in afterwards.

Bad idea. Should have figured, but had never dropped a nuke before. Well, whether I come out on top of this one or not, I've achieved a first.

Now, some questions:

(1) How long before a nuked province's infrastructure can be improved?

(2) Should you not nuke a province you want to control?

(3) Should you only nuke the surrounding provinces of your target province?

(4) If I nuke Stalingrad's 2 Soviet controlled neighbor provinces, will it reduce the org of Stalingrad's garrison?

(5) Nuke targets? London? Stalingrad? Provinces where there are huge stacks of Allied forces? Anywhere in the SU?

I see, too late. I was desparate for Japan's involvement, to cause distraction.

1) Infrastructure never improves. But there is a reload bug that will reset infrastructure back towards normal levles.
2) It depends upon whether you can take it or not with an A bomb. If you can take it and want to control it, then don't nuke. If you need a nuke to take it, then nuke it.
3) Basically you should nuke to take out armies, not to take territory.
4) Stalingrad will not be affected as long as it has a border SU province even if they are at zero org. Troops in Stalingrad will deteriorate if they are in a pocket as long as the game engine recognizes the pocket. Sometimes you have to save and exit and reload to wake up the game engine so that it recognizes the pocket.
5) Save nukes for armies, not provinces. If you can't beat an army, nuke them. Some people have trouble taking London so keep one available for that. In Russia the big use would be to A bomb a large mob of Red Army units that are in a mountain across a river and blocking your path towards Vladivostock. Then paratroop in to quickly grab the province.

So, in the East, am I going to have to stay on the offensive? I'm in no way expecting to conquer the world, or even the British Isles. At the moment, I'm going to have to fend off the Allies in Italy and the Balkans, at the Greek border. I guess I'm going to have to use nukes to reduce enemy forces wherever I see a threat.

He he... I think I might know how this one ends... ;)

You problem is (of course) that the allies will now out produce you. You will still win battles - but you will continue to lose manpower and resources. They will continue to chip away at you.

Don't feel bad though - I seem to recall something similar happening IRL

What sayeth you Seer?

Its 19 Aug. '44 and HoI's version of D-Day has come and gone. Its become "D - French wine is yummy, let's stay a while."

I've retreated and set up what is proving to be a fairly stable front, in the fortress provinces (Belgium & M-Line), as well as improving fortifications all around the perimeter.

After dropping 3 A-bombs, the last only slowing the US in Italy, America dropped one on Berlin. :( But, I know hove so many fighters (tech-advanced) around that Allied bombers can't get through. I'm reinforcing my mountain fortresses in Auchland and improving fortress strength leading into the Balkans.

In the East, a 40 division Soviet army smashed my line. And, maybe since I've never gotten this far w/ Germany before, I may have made a rookie mistake. I ordered a whole-sale retreat back to the Pripet Marshes and set up defenses; also improving fortress strength. If only the SU will stabilize their line...

I've got another Tritium A-Bomb coming in 14 days and its going to drop on the largest stack of Soviets I can find at the front.

I think....I'll take tomorrow off.
