Having been watching Quill18's recent Let's Play, the Chirper is annoying with a lot of useless messages that get repeated multiple times.

Take this one that I have seen no less than 4 or 5 times by different people:

"Way to go @mayor ! IMHO yellow cornfields are much better sight than dirty factories. #cows #farming #moremoney"

Then there is the one about seeing more birds because of Green Power because you put down a wind turbine.

Can anyone tell me why these messages are important for me as a mayor? I haven't specifically kept track of which messages have popped up, but more often than not, it is some useless trivial comment that I would rather not be distracted by while planning or working on the city. Perhaps what annoys me even more is the use of #'s and @'s that are not necessary. Given that I don't use twitter and bad grammar annoys me, I really don't know what purpose these characters serve.

While writing this and watching Quill's video, this one popped up: "@police offers small #storage spaces with secure doors for #rent. Call 911 for more information"

Also "Wow! Our town is quickly becoming a real city. #goodtimes".

As mayor, what use or value does this offer me? Why do I need to know this? Do I need to do something when this pops up? Seems like it should be filed under "Crap I don't care about". At least the sound and animation can be turned off.

I think the one about police storage spaces is hinting that you have really low crime. The others are just there for flavour, like the random jokes you would see on the news ticker in SimCity.

Apart from the jokes (which get old very quickly) the messages are a very round-about way of alerting the player to problems. Because of the nonsensical ones (jokes) players will eventually start to ignore them. I know I did in the SC games.

Personally, I prefer to troubleshoot problems in my city by looking at traffic and the icons near buildings and by looking at the statistics and properties screens and maps.

I also noticed that Skye doesn't seem to like the popups at the bottom of the page. He thinks it's more annoying than the chirper, and I might have to agree with him. It tells you about problems that are in your city, but if possible, I would probably turn it off, because I want to find those problems myself through data, "disasters" and chirps.

I think options for all popups (bottom and top) would be nice, and an option to not have to see the bird at all would be nice. That being said, I am finding when watching the vids that the gameplay is so mesmerizing, I'm not noticing the bird as much as I thought I would. Doesn't mean I like it, just that it's not as annoying as I had worried it would be.

Don't worry, the bird will stay, but there should be an option to turn the bird off, so annoying frustrated nellys can disable it and stop complaining about this "huge problem".

Yeah right..., a tribe of 30 frustrated individuals in an echo chamber.

Frustrated.. Yes.. 30, people.. I don't think so... Maybe 30% of total players imo.

Someone should start a poll and find out ;)

Edit: Also, I thought the entire selling point of Cities Skylines and Colossal Order was "We Listen to the fans, and if they want something or don't we will listen.. Their entire business model was about listening to their fans, and they say the Chirper is their artistic vision and we should respect that. Well, that's kind of hypocrytical imo, if they want to respect players wishes, the chirper should be removable, it's that simple. The Chirper bugs on a deep level, and I still notice it even though everybody keeps repeating "It's so small, you don't notice it!"

Ofcourse, let's just say 30% is the real number (don't flatter yourself, it's 2%, tops), even if it were true, you don't really know how much someone is annoyed by the bird.

I for example am annoyed at the chirper ... a bit ... But i'm definitely more annoyed at people complaining about the bird as if it was a real game breaking feature.

I'm disappointed in the community, i really thought we were better. This game has lots of problems, yet many of you seem to have a problem only with the bird. As a result, many things will not get fixed, just because the dev attention will be focused on the bird. It's such a shame, because you think that's not right.

And how can you say devs don't listen if the last thing they've been working these days was to have an option to turn the chirper notifications off?

The bird might bug you on a deep level, but most of us are more annoyed by you than by the bird.

Heh no! I'd rather have something there all the time than have it pop up under my mouse pointer just as I was about to click on something!

Yeah i agree, that's even worse.

I find it far more irritating being forced to look at the bird whenever I build a city, lol
It should be moved to the upper right corner and disappear when not active.

The problem is also there are many popups so scaling back on the messages would be nice too.

you can disable notifications. But disappearing bird is worse than both: worse than having the bird 100% time, and worse than not having the bird at all.

Did you see Tom Chick is hating on #Chirper at his site Quarter to Three ? #clickbait

Please don't remove #Chirper he is making the game come alive.

another great example of how over-reaction can get out of control.

If anyone is punchable in his beak it's this guy, but i'll let it slide, he's been bullied enough in his childhood considering his surname.
