Was in a war against Denmark when Russia declared war on me. I thought that crushing the Danish fleet and hindering them attacking me from Sjelland and then deal with the Russians would be a great strategy. It was not because the Danes just marched over Öresund!!! No ships was needed to cross the water. And the bad news wasn’t over, the Russians marched across Ålands hav straight to my capital, Stockholm.

Not needing ships to cross Öresund, Ålands hav and surely more places like these, is just stupid, or…?
Anyone that can explain how this is logical?

They floated across on logs. I dunno.

Some land-bridges are horrible annoying. Especially the second bridge between Thrace and mainland Turkey. One is ENOUGH.

It's to represent the fact that many of these straits are sufficiently narrow that civilian/makeshift craft could be used to carry the armies across. Plus, it helps the AI out. Just position some ships in the sea zone the strait crosses and you'll block troop movements.

There is only one strait connecting Thrace to mainland...
The other one connects Edirne...
On topic, had you had a single galley present between the provinces, none of the troops would have been able to pass through... you will learn the game as you go

You can only do it if you control the seas being crossed. Realistic enough for Öresund and the danish islands I'd say.

The strait crossings represents the small boats and other transport opportunities that allready exists. Fishermans cross that sea everyday, it wouldn't be hard to commision those ships for your army. But there should be a max troop amount at the time, having 100k crossing is just unrealistic and stupid. Alltough I admit that would be a bit hard to implement in the game

These straits should be marked on the map, perhaps with a small arc/arrow going over the strait (or animated small boat traffic). The arc could be marked green whenever it's protected by allied navy, red when hostile navy control it and grey in peace or if there are no navy affecting control. This would give strong hints about where armies could cross and how to stop/enable it.

There are two narrow straits in real life, the Bosphorous and the Dardanelles, in the range of 1000 m width at several points, and both have been historically crossed by large armies with and without naval support. Both straits are correctly modeled in EU3. They are where they are supposed to be!

Then maybe you only should be able to cross the strait with, say 4k at the time.

Plus it saves the player from a lot of micromanaging. Very needed in the first few decades when you haven't been able to put a lot of resources into shipbuilding.
