I love CK2, and have been impressed with how much the game has improved over the course of many DLCs, but it seems to me that some DLCs bring features that represent changes, yes, but not really improvements.
Take, for example, educating children. It used to be that there were tons of flavor events that occurred when educating your child. You felt like you were helping to shape their upbringing. But when I play now, the experience of educating a child feels a lot more formulaic. Select this when they get to this age. This other thing when they get to that age. And make a couple of standard decisions along the way. It's not a horrible new system, but it certainly doesn't feel like an improvement over the previous.
We also have a new way to manage laws of our kingdom. It's good, but I'm not sure it's superior to what we had before. Maybe certain aspects are more interesting, but others are less.
I don't know, perhaps it's just me. But a lot of the changes just feel like lateral changes more so than improvements. Of course, the majority of changes surely are improvements, but not all of them seem to rise to that level. Do others feel similarly? Or am I out on a limb here?
