I've been hammering away at DH All in One 1.03 and ended up with a strange kind of fluid Cold War mod, with less emphasis on names and events and more on economics and existing game mechanics. There's nobody to play it with, so I figured I could take it to an AAR.
But I've done my share of writing stories. I'd rather create them with others. Interactivity is the answer, but the question becomes: How much is too much according to the rules?
Now I can't imagine a full-bore, debate-heavy game without a handful of truly dedicated people backing me up. If I had those, I'd probably just do it in multiplayer. So how does this look for an alternative?
- A yearly Budgeting poll which determines a distribution of IC, Research and Money towards various areas. In-depth is not required unless there is some very specific thing which needs doing, which leads into...
- Special initiatives. Having others propose these would be possible, but likely unwieldy. Instead I would probably pose these off and on based on my own observations, kind of like a voice in the darkness saying, "Well what about this...?"
- And of course Big Decisions. Turning responders into what is effectively a congress requires that they weigh in on the most significant events which pop up, particularly those related to war.
From what I understand, the last two would fall under "minimally interactive," but what of the first? I don't have the longevity or reputation the rules call for, so would this be acceptable? Would it even be interesting for the folks around here?
