For me Fallen Empire feature is one of the most interesting mechanic of Stellaris.

Fallen Empire feature could be way more cool if they add some kind of preset relation option
between FE and Younger civilizations.

It would be nice to include in racial trait that gives the civilization some sort of connection to one of the Fallen Empires.(or All of them)

Like they were genetically engineered a few thousands of years ago by FE or they have the
same genetic origin with FE.
(But they were separated during early stage of their civilization or they are a genetic
offshoot of the same species)

Racial trait :

Ancient Connection (+10) - [Type something interesting]

So when you encounter said FE, Player can get the different reaction from them.
Of course, This should not be a big advantage to the gameplay-wise.

based on the nature of this connection they could be more hostile or slightly more "Accepting"
to your race. (In the case of triggering hostile reaction, background has to be something related
to ancient relation to FE's enemy race)

Something similar to MOO3's X tech related racial trait that gives you bonuses when you research X-tech (In a sense that player race are related to the ancient civs)

Benefit can be just simple diplomatic bonus but that would be kind of boring, maybe one-time Tech gift from FE or if that's too much of an advantage. I can imagine FE making unusual
trade offer like 10 POP from player empire for specific tech or resources
(They want your POP for unknown reasons)

I could go on endlessly with the possible fun mechanics with FE.

For example, in rare occasion FE giving special missions to AI or Players. it can range from simple investigation to something more challenging or mysterious(

In EU4 there is a trigger for certain event following historical events which make game interesting,
Since Stellaris's universe is set in future so it might be interesting to add randomized event that will
trigger a war between FE or make them aid us or enemy(for a short period of time),

From what I have seen so far, FEs are just downright dismissive to all younger civilizations but they
are in fact one of the Precursor race and it is only fitting for them to have more historic connection to
AI and Player empires not to mention it will replay value to the game.

We saw the fallen empire in stream for about 5min with no bigger interaction (except the war). I would wait for release, i guess there will be much more events realted to the fallen empires as we can assume now.
