Here's an Idea I came up with to make the independence faction (for a lack of a better word) less dumb.
Currently in the game independence factions can compose of counts and dukes from all random parts of your realm, there's no cohesion or unity in them except for the common goal of being independent. Realisticly however (and what often ends up happening) is that these little counts or dukes simply get reabsorbed into the kingdom/empire that they left (most of the time).
What I propose is that independence factions be less random and ridiculous.
Here's an example: Say the HRE controls most of Italy. The culture of the counts/dukes in italy are Italian. The Italians really dislike being ruled by a foregin leader and so they then form an independence faction designed for those Italian nobles only. Instead of just fighting so that each county/duchy becomes completely sovereign, a leader emerges (or is chosen) and then they fight for independence. If they win, all of Italy that joined the faction becomes free from the HRE however they are now under the rule of a king (the King of italy in this case) who was that leader guy from the start. Now we have a successful revolution and a new kingdom that has a chance at staying sovereign for some time.
An alternative would be instead to swap "cultures" to "de jure vassals to a de jure kingdom" which then form that kingdom after becoming independent.
What are your thoughts?
