From https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/20...is-happening-heres-ten-things-we-know-so-far/, about the Deus Vult stupidity

"

Update – Henrik Fåhraeus offered this comment: “I feel like this issue has been miscommunicated thus far. We have not specifically considered which terms are used in the game apart from making sense in the historical context. The team will decide how any text fits or does not fit into CK3 in a way that feels appropriate.”

"

In Henrik we trust :)
CK2 is the only PDX game, where I like the direction of the lastest additions.
So I'm still optimistic that PDX can create a great CK2 successor. I'm fine with some feature cuts, if CK3 provides a different player experience based on new/deeper game mechanics.

Grats to the team, It will be exciting to embark on this new journey with you and see what you can figure out :)

I'm absolutely sure there will be some (a lot of) CK2 DLC content that won't be included in the base version of CK3, which is pretty much a standard for the industry and is fine for me. I'm positive that with your experience you can figure out how to recreate this stuff in time in a new better form, that will be a more fitting match for the new game. And I don't mind paying for DLCs, if those will be high quality content with new ideas, even with if the theme of the DLC will be similar to what I already bought in CK2.

That saying... I'm not too excited about the 3d character models, but it's an early build, maybe you will refine them with time.

Well, congratulations for all the people who are happy about this announcement. I can't help but feel disappointed about it.
Everyone is commenting "the king is dead, long live the king", but the first part of the phrase is simply not true. CK2 is nowhere near being dead, it's probably the most alive of all Paradox major titles except Stellaris. Victoria 2 is dead, EU 4 is way, way past it's it's prime and is full of problems no DLC can fix, even the young and promising Imperator can die if it fails to attract players back. But CK2, with its thriving community and continuous support, dead? Absolutely not. CK is a great game and deserves a sequel, but it will be in a need of sequel in a few years time, not now. Resources of Paradox are finite, and I really can't feel the excitement about this announcement when I realize that it was made at the expense of some long-awaited, much-requested and needed releases.

I was fully under the impression that 'Holy Fury' was the last paid-for DLC for CK2 which meant that the game is dead. dead in the sense that all development on it will shortly come to a halt. Remember it's probably a year or more away from release and they'll likely still do some work on CK2 for the next few months.

Besides, it looks ghastly when compared to their most recent releases. And the UI is a nightmare to work with. I know it's all wonderfully familiar to someone who has been playing it regularly since it was released but it's a nightmare for a relative newcomer to work with.

A new game will not only help novices by providing new looks and more accessible UI, but also eliminate $200+ cost of the "whole" game + all DLCs. So, it's not unreasonable to release it. My issue is the priorities: I disagree that CK series need a new game before Victoria, EU or even new titles like Cold War game or fantasy grand strategy.

CKII deserved another 2-3 major fix-it, cleanup, and modding patches.

This feels like a money-grab.

It's a 7 year old game that just received a bunch of free content and updates. Also a really good expansion last year. It will always be the case that a game could benefit from another few cleanup/fix patches but CK2 is really in very good shape right now. It's not as if they just thought 'stuff it, let's move on, either. CK3 has been in development for 4 years. It seems more likely that they figured they reached a point where the best way to move the franchise forwards was to make a new game. You'll get to enjoy that 4 years of work for $40 next year which seems like a pretty good deal to me.

If you want to complain about a money grab, then go to the Stellaris: Galactic Command thread. That is a bear-faced money grab. This doesn't seem to be a money grab in the least.

Considering how old CK2 is, I am eagerly awaiting the next sequel to the great series, there's only so much patchwork you can do on an old engine version. And considering they're pushing for more moddability this'll be great for the modding community too. Thanks Paradox, keep on rocking, I look forward to the dev diaries to come!

As a CKII portrait modder, my biggest concern is the shift from portraits to 3D models. Some of the biggest mods that propelled CKII into stardom were mods such as A Game of Thrones, Elder Scrolls, Lord of the Rings, the Witcher, and more. By moving to 3D models, it will make the work of modders a lot more difficult, if not impossible, depending on what is hard coded.

I've had several people tell me the reason they bought CKII was because they heard the A Game of Thrones mod was the best way Game of Thrones fans could immerse themselves, even over other Game of Thrones titles. CKIII will live and die by the modding community, so it needs to be mod friendly; jumping to 3D models will make things difficult for us, but hopefully not impossible.
Considering they have maya modding for 3D models already supported for other graphical and 3D assets I really don't think it will be as much of a problem as you seem to think.
They've already stated that everyone on map in the base game will be playable.
Well that's concerning seeing as they also say merchant republics will not be playable, does that mean that merchant republics have been removed from the map? But hat makes no sense, there were powerful merchant republics in this era. I get why they got rid of the current iteration of them (it was essentially broken) but not keeping them as NPCs for the moment seems odd.
I am deeply conflicted, and even somewhat disgusted by this announcement.

There were significant areas pf CKII that needed revision and fixing.

This is an abandonment of a great game.

I question whether I will bother buying it at all, if there is even a hint of simplification or wonky mechanisms.

CKII deserved another 2-3 major fix-it, cleanup, and modding patches.

This feels like a money-grab.
Actually if you saw the interview with doomdark he said he had intended the game to have active support for three years which means the last DLC was meant to be way of life. They've supported it way past that.
Have you coded crusader kings 2? Written DLC for it? Doomdark did both and if you watch his interview he says it's utterly broken that he did the original code to last for three years worth of DLC and now it's had more than twice as much as he intended it to be able to last. Also as for it needing time, CK3 got started before imperator, Johan said in an interview that he borrowed a lot of resources from the CK3 development for creating imperator.

Let's keep the Deus Vult discussion out of this thread please. There is a sticky separate thread for that.
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/crusader-kings-iii.1059/
you mean this? its locked.
paradox pls just because 1 dude used word in diffrent meaning it doesnt change its meaning
just like "allahu akbar"! Do you think its used for terrorists only and should not be included in games becuause live bombers using it?
no! it means "God is most great" and nothing else! Just like "deus vult" means "god wills it"! Both are open to be used for wicked reasons and you are just bending knee to group of people that are not playing games
are you willing to bend knee to people that are failing to pass cup head? THEY WONT EVEN REACH THE AREA THAT THEY GONNA SEE TEXT!

But here is the thing:If you remove "deus vult" from game and write "god is great" or "allah is most great" ANYWERE for muslims it means you are doing double standarts becuase these words being connected with terrorism so much there is meme of it and I am %100 sure there is a chance of you being attacked by security if you yell this at mall

"oh you sound like islamaphobe"
I AM A MUSLIM! But I think you can say I got "symphaty for christians" trait too -_-

just because A DUDE! YES A DUDE said it doesnt mean entire meaning changed! moment you do that you let him win because he did this so you will make other peoples dislike foreigners more!

I'm a bit sad that we got a the 9th-century start as that means I won't be able to do my normal glorious Old Saxons runs with usually ends with a glorious collapse in civil war after a few centuries. :(

It's not supposed to be Deus "lo" Vult because "lo" isn't a Latin pronoun or word.

How productive for this discussion. Getting our latin straight is the main issue here.

In all seriousness: It's silly to go about correcting people in a forum about things you might be yourself incorrect. @Guaire123456789 and @LeSingeAffame are correct, the utterances "deus lo vult" and "deus lo volt" are very common in medieval parlance. Its a corruption, and I am guessing, even more common in latin-derived languages (so it would be seen often in Portugal, Spain, France etc.). People who like the subject and read a lot about it come across that sentence frequently.

here:

https://www.thoughtco.com/correct-latin-for-deus-lo-volt-119454

So you maybe correct about your latin and wrong about your history, but in all cases it's rude to nitpick other people's sentences and put words in their mouths (or correct them when you don't even know what they meant with them).
