"6. There’s no “Deus Vult”.
In the years since CK2’s release, “Deus Vult” – an eleventh century crusader battlecry – has become a vile meme beloved of racists on the internet. I asked how Paradox’s community team felt about this, and was told emphatically that the words will not appear in Crusader Kings 3. That’s refreshing, but in a game set during a time of conflicts fetishised by modern fascists, it’s the tip of the iceberg. I’ll be writing more about how Paradox are handling the political sensitivities of making a game about the crusades, and how they’re handling the representation of non-European cultures, in the weeks to come."

Well, this seems... silly, very silly. Cannibals are fine while the crusaders' warcry isn't. It's difficult to support this kind of censorship creeping into historical games.

You know what's funny? I found the deus vult usage in the game refreshing precisely because it was done in the right context instead of just being a dumbass fascist LARPer catchphrase. Now Paradox is removing it because fascists have the final word in what decent people should like, say or do.
Nice job, Paradox.
Can't wait to see what else is scrubbed from this historical game (or any other future title) because of racists on the internet. God I'm so sick of these internet kiddies who get to claim ownership of history and take away from others who simply enjoy history; because they find it fascinating...and that's all.
Eh was the was Deus Vult even in ck2? Perhaps as a response to some events but it's not like the words matter in any significant way.Why are they pushing modern political sensibilities into a strategy game that is suppose to simulate a political era different from ours?
How are they gonna go about with the crusades now exactly while trying to tip toe around the word of "Deus Vult"?
I don't think they will since they did that from ck1 to ck2, and they really should be careful about letting to much legacy content build up.They did throw in all EU3 dlcs in EUIV if Im not wrong so I would expect something similar for CK3, with some stuff cut because it is not good or don't follow the vision of the game but as they add in new content people may overlook the missing stuff and prefer the new stuff.
The devs have long since stated that crusader kings is just a name, it's not meant as descriptive of what the game is about any more if it ever was.Deus vult is the literal rallying cry of the Crusades, in a game called CRUSADER kings. It embodies the whole theological reasoning behind the Crusades and its successor States and Orders, it is a quote from the Bible itself and is the expression of the entire attitude of the extremely religious society of the time. This phrase is much more sensible for the Crusades than the name Holy Roman Empire is for the HRE, so stop with the empty excuses and stop justifying PDX for caving to the demands of groups of people who won't even contribute to the game.
Actually there is no archeological evidence of any real life widespread cannibalism as a cultural trait, only anecdotes. But cannibalism or human sacrifices are essential parts of some traditional non-European cultures, therefore they must be respected and well-represented. Sounds logical.
:sarcasm:
Yes it's not the right way to handle it but Paradox probably fears that their game being used as a meme generator for things they don't ant to be associated with would hurt their bottomline. You know what's funny? I found the deus vult usage in the game refreshing precisely because it was done in the right context instead of just being a dumbass fascist LARPer catchphrase. Now Paradox is removing it because fascists have the final word in what decent people should like, say or do.
Nice job, Paradox.
Not sure I understand what you mean?Thank the deity of your choice that Doomdark is in charge and not Wiz...
I don't see any SJWs anywhere, Paradox does not serve them anyway, paradox is a company they serve the bottomline.Don't blame racists - blame paradox, who are driven by SJW trends to the detriment of historicity.
This is chants of white racists, or Muslim terrorists, or Chinese communists - it doesn't matter. History is history.
or you know... people that do not belive just because 5 person used it in that way it doesnt change its meaningeveryone who i disagree with is a fascist xd
