Hail to the King of Kings, To him alone be vigor, strength and victory through all ages of ages, To him alone be honor, praise and jubilation through infinite ages of ages. Hail to the Kings of Kings, Hail to the Emperor of Vaeria!
-Part of the Imperial Oath, recited at the Coronation of the Emperor

It is the year 2200, The Globe-Spanning Holy Vaerian Empire is close to its 150th anniversary, but it enters the new century with uncertainty. The ruling dynasty of the empire, House Cotlon have died out, and the throne lies vacant, open for the ambitious noble to seize through election. The assembly, long standing as the voice of the people, once again is becoming restless and begins to demand for greater reforms. Many consider the 2200 elections for the assembly to be a referendum on the future direction of the Empire. The 23rd century hold promise to be one of greatness and glory or of disaster and civil war. It is up to those in power, the Noble, Clergy and Assembly Members to decide the future, but they must first win support from the people.

Chapter 0: The History of the Holy Vaerian Empire
Hello guys,
I am the official Loremaster of this Semi-Interactive AAR and I´m proud to present you the official state sanctioned chronology of the Holy Vaerian Empire:

Establishment of the duchy of Höchstburg in 0 AE (After Establishment):

After the downfall of the Longinian Empire through the hands of the Empire of Taiyang, the city of Höchstburg (then called: Summarcum) on the fringes of the once great empire was forced to fend for itself.

Longinian troops were long since recalled for the war effort the local population ousted their local corrupt governor and chose one of their own as their leader: Alfonsus Kumeria, better known as Alfons I. von Kumerien.

He used the disarray left behind from the Longinian withdrawal from the Supralan continent, to rally able men and marched to war, to secure lands surrounding the city and the oath of loyalty of the local peasantry.

After that point he was called Alfons I. von Kumerien, duke of Höchstburg.

Alfons I. used the prime of his life to stabilize the surroundings of Höchstburg and to return order and peace to the duchy, he needed to hunt down many deserters of the Longinian Army, who stayed behind an used the weapons to exploit villages and towns around the city of Höchstburg.

Alfons I. died several years later in 16 AE at the age of 56.

Alfons I. was succeeded by his son Alfons-Friedrich, now Alfons-Friedrich I..

Alfons-Friedrich I. and the son who succeeded him, continued Alfons’s I. work and consolidated Höchstburg, trained a military and rooted out remaining bandits in the countryside.

It wasn´t until Herman I. ascended to the throne in 50 AE that Höchstburg started to become the dominant power in Suprala.

Annexation of Kastellau in the 1st Höchstburgian-Ahrstadtian War 58 AE:

Kastellau and Ahrstadt grew wary of the Höchstburgian military build-up that has been going on since Herman I. started to implement military reform, to make the raising his levies more efficient.

The war was declared in 58 AE after Kastellau and Ahrstadt formalized their alliance and decided to preemptively strike at Höchstburg in spring.

Herman’s troops were able to round up and repel the attacking army and even pushed into enemy territory.

Without defense and underprepared for a siege the city of Kastellau opened their gates, ousted the nobility, responsible for the war and formally joined Höchstburg in 60 AE.

Not willing to commit more troops to continue the push forward Herman I. and Bürgermeister Mark Uhlmann from Ahrstadt signed a formal peace agreement in 62 AE.

The campaigns of Franz-August I. “the great” von Kumerien 78 AE:

After the Annexation of Kastellau and its territories Herman I. and his son spent their regency consolidating and solidifying their grip on the new provinces in the duchy.

In 76 AE Franz-August ascended to the throne and resumed military build-up to conquer Ahrstadt once and for all.

Franz-August I. was close friends with an Goltunheimian Merchant he used his connections to start construction of the first Höchstburgian Navy.

In 78 AE he was ready and declared war on Ahrstadt, citing unreasonable high trade tariffs as the reason. This war lasted for 8 years, unable to penetrate the walls of Ahrstadt by land, Franz-August used his new navy to blockade Ahrstadt.

The Republic of Ahrstadt surrendered in 86 AE and joined the duchy.

It was during this war, when Albionese missionaries reached Höchstburg, that Franz-August converted to the one true faith. These missionaries convinced the duke that with the blessing of the 12 true gods, he could win the war in less than a year.

Franz-August, wise as he was accepted the offer and the war was won.

In 88 AE the nobility of Höchstburg in light of the wisdom of Franz-August declared him King of Höchstburg.

In the following years the King sent out his most trusted nobles to explore the west of Suprala. They eventually reached the coast of the Continent and founded the city of Westmark, to formalize the Kingdom’s claim on the West coast.

The first Emperor Otto II. von Kumerien 179 AE:

During the next century the Kingdom of Höchstburg expanded into the northern territories, converted the pagan natives and added them to the Kingdom.

During the reign of Otto II. the holy city of Albion and the High priest of Arius, the Pontifex Maximus, reached out to Otto and asked for their support. The Godless Kingdom of Regniér has attacked Albion two years earlier and has crushed the Albionese Navy, the High Priest asked all brothers in Faith for assistance, as the Kingdom of Colton was currently occupied in a war with Windfordshire, only Höchstburg remained to help.

In 177 AE the Royal Navy sailed south to liberate Albion.

After the Royal Navy pushed back the Regniérian Navy and the Royal Army relieved Albion Otto II. was crowned Emperor of Suprala on New Year's Eve 178 AE by Pontifex Maximus Regulus IV., this also meant that Albion would join the Empire.

This moment marks the creation of the Holy Supralese Empire, the Empire which would go on to conquer the world.

Otto II. went on to conquer Wenfordshire and Colton. In 186 AE he united the whole continent under Imperial Rule.

The End of the Kumerian dynasty 350 AE:

In 350 AE Herman V. died in an unfortunate hunting accident without an heir.

To avoid a war amongst the nobles about who becomes the next emperor the Pontifex Maximus Aurelius II. called the first imperial Diet in Albion: An Assembly of the most powerful nobles, to represent their case before the gods.

The Diet then voted, one vote for each noble and member of the clergy present.

They voted for Karl von Richtlingen, duke of Kastellau.

Era of infighting 375 AE - 550 AE:

Even though Karl I. von Richtlingen was generally known as a fair and capable ruler, he never was able to fully establish his family as the rightful heirs to the Kumerian dynasty. During his own reign, this caused little trouble, as he was respected among the nobility, only after his death these troubles began to show.

Karls son, Wilhelm III. of Richtlingen was controversial among the Diet. He generally held the support of the duchies in the north of the continent, but was detested by the newer members of the empire in the south.

This friction came to a head, when after Karl I. died, Pontifex Maximus Benedictus VII. called for a new Diet to answer the question of succession.

Wilhelm III. ignored and even went so far as to call this call an insult, as he is Karls firstborn and heir and therefore it is no question who succeeds on the throne.

The nobles in the south, who came from a different culture, were not keen on more northern dominance, without their consent and did not want to wave their right to debate and even put forward their own candidates for emperor. These discussions eventually lead to the nomination and declaration (this election was held in absence of the northern duchies) of Wallace Wenford, King of Wenfordshire as the Supralan emperor.

The answer to this affront could only be war.

The coming century was therefore plagued by civil war, as no side was able to unite enough of the continent under their banner to crush the opposition.

This was not helped when in 403 AE Westmark declared its independence under King Gustav II. Gudmundson, the King of Goltunheim, who convinced the nobility in the remote city that only his fleet could feed them, when the rest of the continent is at war with each other.

This caused both fighting emperors to declare war on Westmark and by extension Goltunheim on account of rebellion and treason on the imperial crown, though which remained a question.

The wars slowly but surely ground to a standstill, no side willing to commit troops to battles they were not sure to win. Neither emperor able to beat the Goltunheim Navy, which successfully burned down the Northerner Navy in Höchstburg during the raid of Höchstburg in 409 AE

The continent split and neither side able to score victory lead King Gustav to invade Suprala in 412 AE.

His initial landing brought him to the other side of the continent to his beachhead in Westmark. from there he went inland toward Kastellau.

In 415 AE the Goltumheim forces met the northern army under Emperor Wilhelm III. von Richtlingen.

The imperial forces were beaten hard, because they suffered under malnutrition and generally low moral due to the long time of fighting at that time (45 years of war).

Wilhelm retreated inside the walls of Kastellau.

Even though Gustavs forces were victorious on the field they were inexperienced and ill equipped in siege warfare, which caused a staggeringly ineffective siege of Kastellau, which would go on for 23 years, before Gustav was forced to retreat by the southern forces, lead by Emperor Henry II. Wenford, successor to Wallace Wenford, who continued the siege for another 7 years, before Kastellau surrendered in 445 AE, Wilhelm was killed during the sacking of the city which followed.

Being the only Emperor left standing Henry Wenford went on and drove out the Goltunheim forces, recapturing the city of Westmark in the process.

In 453 AE the Holy Supralan Empire was united once again.

The rest of his regency Henry tried to mend the rifts between north and south, but was not as successful as anticipated. The resentment over the lost war ran deep in the north and in the west.

In 461 AE Henry was killed by an assassin, hired by the northern nobles in his quarters in Höchstburg. The Assassin succeeded, because the nobles were able to get the captain of the Imperial Royal Guard on their side.

His succession proved difficult, as the northern nobles were unwilling to accept a southern emperor and vice versa. This caused a gridlock in the diet, not able to finance another war and unwilling to compromise. The gridlock led to the establishment of the Imperial Regency, the Family van Haiwen was tasked with this monumental burden, with the role of overseeing the election with the Pontifex Maximus and running day to day affairs, but unable to do anything without the consent of the Diet.

The gridlock ended in 499 AE, when the southern rulers agreed to the northern candidate, Gotz von Kalle, a highly distinguished general, who was respected by all. Even though he was a minor noble from the middle area of Suprala with barely any land to call his own, his prestige and reputation left him the only candidate who was deemed non partial.

Gotz was only 25 when he was crowned, he went on to become a capable ruler, who was able to mend the worst rifts inside the empire. He died of old age at the Age of 76 and was succeeded by his son, Walter.

Era of Pestilence 650 AE- 713 AE:

In 650 AE the first case of the Nostroran Pestilence was encountered in Albion on board of a merchant vessel, the plague went on to ravish the continent for the next 63 years, it made no difference between nobility and commoners and killed about 30% of the population.

Era of holy wars 780 AE- 1030 AE:

With the stability on Suprala restored the Pontifex Maximus Lusentus VIII. was given the task by Arius himself to help the heathens of Regniér find the righteous path of the gods, after notifying the Emperor Herman II. von Kalle, the first holy war was declared to rid Regniér of all heathens.

After successfully conquering the Kingdom of Regniér in 803 AE, the Emperor was visited by Arius in his sleep. He was told the task is not done.

Emperor Hermann II. von Kalle declaring the 2nd holy war in Regniér 803 AE

In 805 AE the second holy war was declared against the Archduchy of Arcadié.

After their subjugation in 838 AE, the local nobles, in charge of the newly conquered territories continued the holy wars on their own, without any official imperial consent.

They expanded the Empire all the way to Sierra Galan on the western seaboard and became rich and powerful in the process.

Only in 1030 AE did this independant warmongering stop, when Emperor Alexander von Untergrab forced them to stop by decreeing only the emperor was allowed to wage war.

1st Age of conflict 1307 AE - 1579 AE:

In 1289 AE the Second Longinian Empire was established. Their Emperor Augustus Karolus XXIII. Di Giardano set out to reclaim all the territories lost centuries ago. After successfully subjugating the Great Empire of Taiyang to their south, by successfully implementing gunpowder and revolutionizing warfare.

This open aggressive tenure caused the citystate of Vesperanza to join the Holy Supraln Empire in 1305 AE. In 1307 AE the 2nd Longinian Empire declared war against the holy Supralan Empire.

After initially being outgunned, outmanned and outclassed the Longinian Forces successfully conquered the Nostroran holdings of the Supralan emperor, successfully uniting Nostrora for the first time in history in 1373 AE.

This threat from Longinia however caused the Kingdom of Goltunheim and its colonies in Vostokia to join the war on the Supralan side to contain the threat.

Still the best navy in the world, the Goltunheim navy successfully beat the Longinian ships time and time again,as they were unable to keep the gunpowder dry, making their advantage useless and buying Suprala the time it needed to reform its military to this new type of Warfare.

In 1397 AE the joint Supralan-Goltunheim counteroffensive started, successfully reclaiming the western half of the continent.

In 1457 AE the Supralan forces stormed Longinia, killing the Longinian Emperor thereafter, when he tried to escape.

The imperial army storming Longinia 1457 AE

The rest of the 15th century was spent subjugating remaining Longinian strongholds and integrating into the Empire.

It was also in this period that slavery as an institution was abolished, even though Vaerian society remains divided, compensation is seen as a necessity to preserve the fragile balance between commoners and the nobiity.

Goltunheim, unable to claim any significant land victory for its own, did not get any territorial expansion out of this war, which caused no small bitterness among them.

In 1536 AE, the current Emperor Heinz van der Ejk was succeeded by the first ever female Emperor: Katharina von Kalle, heiress to the prestigious von Kalle dynasty, proved herself a wise Empress.

She was victorious in the great peasant uprising of 1559 AE, successfully putting down their rebellion. But she heard their cry for help and implemented several social and agricultural reforms, such as the right for non nobles to own land, the right to marry outside their standing and she established a court system which allowed commoners to sue their lords and ladies, if they found themselves treated unfairly, though rarely were nobles ever convicted.

Katharina died in 1579 AE at the Age of 69 from pneumonia.

The revolution of 1618 AE:

In 1618 AE the tensions between the social classes came to a head, when the lord of Rengniér was accused to let his subjects starve during a drought. This case came before the courts, but the lord was found innocent and was released. This was just one of many such cases but the obvious guilt of the lord caused the peasantry to take up arms to rebel against this injustice.

Similar uprisings occurred in other cities as well, some like the initial one in Regniér were put down successfully, others like in Medonia, a city with a strong aristocracy who supported the revolution, fell to the Anarchists.

In the end, to avoid all out civil war the People’s Assembly was established, to give elected members of the common people a voice in the mechanisations of government inside the Empire and make the communication between the classes more accessible.

This resulted in the drafting of the Imperial Constitution.

Era of Unification 1700 AE - 1957 AE:

During the 18th century AE the landscape of Vaeria saw huge changes on social level. The Empire was more stable as ever before, since the members of the commoners were able to make their grievances heard, even though the nobility could choose to ignore them, the innovation of the radio in 1763 AE saw to it, that speeches in either of the chambers in the Imperial Diet were broadcasted into the living rooms of every citizen, noble or common. This forced the nobility to remain approachable and reasonable as any extremists or absolutists ran danger of a popular uprising in their own realms.

The start of Industrialization in the late 18th century also caused the Empire to grow more connected, the people started to feel as one nation, as every citizen was forced to learn High Supralan since the early 16th century. Even though cultural differences remained in parts, the fact that every people had access to one common language and shared the same faith into the 12 gods, which kept pace with the rapid changes and reformed accordingly.

As this happened in the western hemisphere the same effect was taking place in the colonial Kingdom of Goltunheim and the Tsardom of Vostokia as well.

As the ships got ever faster and the world seemed ever smaller the Tsardom started to feel threatened of the Holy Supralan Empire.

They have butted heads with the colonies of Goltunheim before and have remained at peace with them for about a century at this point. This changed when Tsar Nicolaj XV. implemented the “Doctrine of Self Preservation”, which stated that the only way for Vostokia to stay safe from “Western Heresy” (The Tsardom practised a Monotheistic cult, which believed on the Holy Spirit of Praf) is to lock down the continent and get in control of the entire coastline.

This eventually lead to a war with Goltunheim in 1803 AE, during which the Kingdom lost its colonies in the northern parts of Vostokia.

With the Kingdom weakened the population of Goltunheim and its surrounding islands rose up in a similar manner as the peasants in 1618 AE, and wanted “equal treatment for equal people”, they eventually toppled their government in 1818 AE and established the Union of Goltunheim, the mob expropriated the nobility and shot the royal family. They called the new system of government, consisting of several councils dedicated to different parts of the industry “Councilism”.

In 1819 AE Emperor William VI. Colton, in his wisdom, declared this new way of governance a danger to the heavenly order and launched an invasion of Goltunheim two years later.

Using new weapons, invented during the last 100 years, such as machine guns, Zeppelins and Ironclad Warships, weapons of war unavailable in large quantities to the anarchic mob on Goltunheim.

This lead to the inevitable defeat and incorporation of Goltunheim into the Empire

Imperial troops returning order in Goltunheim 1823 AE

After total victory against Goltunheim’s peasants was achieved the world settled into a new order: East and West divided and in a constant state of rivalry and cold war.

This fragile peace endured for another century with only the occasional naval scuttle, before it would all collapse in the Great War of Unification in 1925 AE.

The remaining 19th century AE continued the positive trend of the Empire: New innovations were discovered, the economy was doing better than ever before, the nobility did their duty and supported their subjects with the introduction of healthcare, though the implementation widely differs from province to province, depending on the local noble. These differences caused the occasional local uprising, which would end in the procedural removal of the local nobles in charge by the Emperor and subsequent replacement, never in any civil war.

(It has to be acknowledged though, that some democratic and communist uprisings occurred, but they lacked widespread support and were put down.)

The Imperial Diet remained a pure formality as the Colton dynasty was doing a great job and enjoyed widespread support among the nobility and the common people.

In 1925 AE the Great War of Unification, as it was dubbed by historians, broke out.

Cause of this war were atrocities committed by Vostokian commissars who were tasked with overseeing the conversion of the former Goltunheim colonies to the Prafian faith.

As these people were brothers in faith to the Empire, Emperor James X. Colton formally declared war, after hearing of death camps, set up by Vostokian forces, to rid themselves of non believers.

The War generally is split up into 4 phases:

Phase 1: The naval War (1925 AE -1930 AE)

This phase consisted mostly of all out naval battles between the Imperial and the Tsarish Navy.

This phase ended in 1930 AE when the Imperial Navy defeated the bulk of the Tsarish Navy in the Battle of Valhall Bay, north of Visgard. This defeat opened the path to the landing of Imperial troops in Visgard.

Phase 2: Landing in Visgard 1931 AE

After the victory at Valhall bay, Imperial high command approved the landing of Imperial troops. This Landing was carried out on October 3rd 1931 AE at Visgard.

Phase 3: War on land 1931 AE - 1940 AE

After the successful landing at Visgard the war on land began.

The initial push south was met by little resistance and the former Goltunheim colonies celebrated the Imperial troops as liberators and were happy to join the Empire.

The offensive started to lose its momentum at the city of Al-Sharit around 1933 AE, where Imperial troops were met by fanatic resistance, ranging from suicidal frontal assaults against armored units to suicide bombers in civilian clothing. Interrogations revealed that these fanatics were members of a Vostokian special military division called the “Knights of Praf”, they believed that when they died by killing heretics, they would gain preferential treatment in the afterlife.

This kind of guerilla warfare stopped the northern offensive dead in its tracks, because advancement from Al-Sharid was deemed to risky, as the city was not pacified to a degree which would allow the supply train to run by to the frontlines.

Imperial troops therefore retreated further north to positions, which could be held.

This lead to another 2 years of stalemate, as Imperial high command refused to overextend troops to fight against fanatics.

All of this changed in 1935 AE, when a second landing near Sholgagrad succeeded

This second front in the south forced Vostokia to allocate troops and enabled the northern front to launch a new offensive.

The southern offensive had the momentum at this point as Vostokian troops needed to arrive in the south first. They met at Soulomen in 1936 AE.

The siege of Soulomen was another example of Prafian fanaticism, even though the fighting took place in ruins bombed by the Imperial Airforce, which dominated the sky at this point, they refused to surrender. Only in 1938 AE was the Imperial Army able to pacify the city, when hunger finally forced the Vostokian defenders to surrender, after the city was fully enveloped.

The following two years, the offensives joined up and started pushing toward the Tsarish capital city of Kolonengrad.

Phase 4: The final push 1941 AE:

After the offensive lines joined up and encircled the capital city of Kolonengrad, the Tsarish family saw the defeat on the horizon and surrendered. And the city was conquered without resistance. The Tsar and his family were subsequently brought to Höchstburg, to decide their fate. The Tsar was sentenced to death on the grounds of crimes against humanity and using civilians as cover for their fighters. This meant the war was officially over and Vostokia formally annexed in 1942 AE.

But the fighting did not stop. Many of the Prafist fanatics continued to wage a guerilla war against the occupational forces in Vostokia.

This was mostly limited to small scale skirmishes and insurgencies around the rural areas, especially around Soulomen and Al-Sharit and was handled as such by Imperial high command. This however changed, when a Prafian suicide bomber used a stolen aircraft to carry out a nuclear attack, with a bomb stolen from an Imperial Research facility in Medonia, on Sholgagrad, where the local military headquarters was located. The city was decimated and the surrounding area contaminated, it remains like this to this day.

Birds Eye view of Sholgagrad 1948 AE

After that Emperor Andrew II. Colton decreed the Prafian faith a crime against humanity, this horrific religion was hunted down and removed from this world.

In 1954 AE this faith was confirmed to be cleansed from Vaeria.

August 27th 1957 AE: The Holy Supralan Empire was reformed to the Holy Vaerian Empire to properly represent all the people living inside its borders. Emperor Andrew II. Colton is the first true ruler of all Vaeria.

Rise of a new nobility 1960 AE - 2100 AE:

After the Great War of Unification had ended and peace returned to the empire once again.

The economy grew even more, and members of the Aristocracy reached levels of wealth some nobles can only dream of. This caused a flood of newly appointed nobles, the so called “21st nobility”, as the first wealthy Industrial, a man called Walter Hunt, was raised to the rank of a baron in 2000 AE, this meant he was the first noble in history to gain the rank of nobility without martial prowess or military service, but by simply buying it.

Estimates as to how much it actually cost to convince Emperor Jonathan XI. Colton to be raised to the rank of a minor noble (Count) with a seat in the Estates Chamber, vary but generally lie in between 20,000,000,000 IMK to 100,000,000,000 IMK

(IMK=Imperial Mark as of the currency union established in 1999 AE which abolished the current system of different currencies, depending on the realm)

He was not the last commoner to become nobility, in the 21st century a total of 57 families was promoted to the rank of minor nobles (This is an important detail, as the “21st Nobility” was never raised above the rank of Count to ensure that the old nobility did not feel threatened by the newcomers), after serving several years as Grandmagister in the People’s Assembly.

Sidenote: Ranks of Nobility:

  • Emperor, Empress
  • Archduke, Archduchess

  • Duke, Duchess

  • Count, Countess

  • Baron, Baroness

This practice was abandoned in 2099 for unknown reasons by the following Emperor (Oswald III. Colton).

The money accumulated with this practice however, resulted in the first manned space faring missions as well as several public construction projects to bring Vaeria into this new millennium and the construction of the new imperial Palace (construction started in 2087 AE).

Also In the 21st century the Empire was confronted with the bill of their rapid industrial progress. The general trend of the Vaerian climate was a growing concern of the Emperor, the solution to this problem was the invention of the first Quantum Fission Reactor. Using this new type of renewable energy allowed the Empire to reach new heights in innovation, economic growth and technological progress.

An uncertain Future 2100 AE - 2200 AE:

In 2101 AE the first concept design of an FTL drive using previously unknown “paths” in the fabric of space was published by scientist Dr. Timothy De la Rosa. It remained purely theoretical until 2187 AE, when the first unmanned probe successfully used these Hyperlanes to traverse approximately 75 Light Years (LY) in less than three days.

In 2123 scientist Dr. Erwin Schweppe created a new type of Sublight engine, which made expansion inside our own star system seem possible.

In 2142 AE the first Mining installation was built and went into use two years later, it was paid for by the Imperial mining Guild, a political entity representing several special interest groups in the mining industries, which over the centuries now resembles more a conglomerate of the biggest companies.

The Imperial research guild opened their first interstellar research facility in 2158 AE.

In 2168 AE this new expansion into the solar system made military protection necessary and lead to the establishment of the Imperial Interstellar Navy, with the first three ships of the newly created “Kumerien” class corvettes launched in the next decade.

The social class divide is still an ongoing issue amongst the political establishment, if or when it escalates is a question only time can tell, but for now the situation seems stable as the Holy Constitution keeps being amended to guarantee the Heavenly Order is enforced and accepted by all.

Recently in 2199 AE Emperor Frederick VII. Colton died of old age. After the death of the love of his life in 2151 AE he never remarried and never produced an heir.

With him dies the primary lineage of the Colton dynasty, the dynasty which has ruled the Empire for over 500 years.

With this lineage dead, the question of who will ascend to the Imperial throne is uncertain, as the many noble houses will meet once again to determine who will be Emperor.

But will one dynasty ever be able to produce such a successful lineage of capable and popular rulers as the Coltons ever again? Only time will tell.

The Pontifex Maximus has called for the Imperial Diet to assemble in Albion to elect and crown the next Emperor in 2200 AE.

Today in the prestigeous Newspaper "Albion Post" appeared this article about an ominous meeting betwees several noblemen held soon after the funaeral of the later Emperor:

The Emperor is dead, long live the Empire

As the body of the late emperor Frederick VII. Colton was laid to rest last afternoon, several members of the nobility and political landscape of the Assembly have paid their respects.

As Emperor Frederick VII. died as the last of the Colton imperial dynasty this next election for his successor will be highly contested, as several newcomers to the Imperial capital have already hinted at their eventual candidacy for the vacant throne. Just last night inside sources in Höchstburg have reported of a meeting between several prominent members of the nobility, among them Gustav von Friedenswald, heir to the late Duke Ramius of Westmark, a bastard of Jeremy Colton, brother of the late emperor.

Other than him the leaders of the Ó Leannáin, Drakkus, Draskar and Paleogent families have also been reported as present as well as the leader of the esteemed society of the hawk and head of the Leptis family Octavia Leptis and the chairwoman of the Meiji Corporation, Oryou Meiji.

On inquiry for a comment on the contents of the meeting the present people answered the following:

Oryou Meiji:

“I'm a commoner, so I wasn't there, but I can guess it was simply a chance meeting that almost certainly, eventually, turned to talk of who should be Emperor (its the topic of every lazy dinner party nowadays); namely von Friedenswald.
He may not be a Colton by name but he is by blood and his claim would be backed by experiance and confidance, not just lineage. He has a shot, we'll just see who else draws their gun faster.”

Christos Palaeogent:

“What I discussed with other lords of the realm is just personal matters, that I wanted to discuss about, a normal conversation between friends, nothing out of the ordinary.”

Karl Gustav von Friedenswald:

"Let me first pay my respects to the late Emperor Fredrick IV, a great man in life and a Noble one in death. His passing I'd a tragedy for all Vaeria. But now, we must look to the future. Vaeria is at the precipice of order and chaos, of the destruction of our most sacred institutions and their upliftment. As such, I met with a select few like-minded individual's to discuss my prospects in a run for Emperor. Our decision is not public at this time, but at my Coronation as the new Duke of Westmark, all will be announced."

A speaker for Fionn Ó Leannáin stated:

"Ruire Fionn ‘Gallowglas’ Ó Leannáin wish to state that he had an informal chat with a couple of noble men from prominent family's talking about a number of issues. This issues ranged from the death of the emperor and an invite to the noble men to visit Ruire Fionn ‘Gallowglas’ Ó Leannáin native land."

Hochberg, Vaerian Empire — Saturday, January 1, 2200

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Two Interviews were conducted by VNN reporter Samue Hollerzollen on two candidates for The emperorship of the Vaerian Empire.

The First Noble to be Interviewed was Archduke Carolus de Mérode from Arcadié, The first Question asked was in quote, ” Why Exactly would you want to be emperor?’” In response he stated "Our Empire is at the verge of interstellar exploration and expansion into the unknown. I believe it is part of my duty to fill in the gap that has been left by the late Emperor, may he rest in peace, and be at the helm of Vaeria to lead her people to the stars."

The next Question was the policies he would try to push as emperor he stated "My plan is simple. Back in Arcadié, I am known as a bridge builder. Of course not in the literal sense, but in the sense that I was able to bring people together to achieve what some imagined as impossible. I intend to do the same if I become Emperor. I intend to work with both sides of the table, both with those who consider themselves as Conservatives as with those who'd like to see some reform. In my opinion, humanity can only achieve greatness if it acts like one united people. As Emperor, I plan to bring together representatives of both the Estates Chamber and the People's Assembly to work towards the common goal of exploration and expansion into space. It is my firm belief that we all have the same interest in what lies out there, in the vast unknown. Of course venturing out into the void is a big change for the Empire. Some might not like this change, but it is an unavoidable one. The Empire will need an Emperor who is willing to deal with this change by building new institutions on top of the old ones. I have the highest respect for our traditions and our current institutions and I intend to carry that respect on if I become Emperor. Yet new ideas will be needed to tackle the new issues that we will encounter out there. The benefits of outer space, but also the dangers that await us there are things that will affect all of us. Not only the nobles or the clergy, but the citizenry will also get to reap its benefits. It is my opinion that the Emperor should personally stand guarantee for that future."

The final Question was about the religious radicals and minor religions in general, in quote he stated "I believe that while religion is an important aspect of Vaerian culture and history, from time to time there are things that shed a bad light on it. One should not be persecuted for believing in something else, or for not being a believer at all, even if Didecism is our state religion. Yet, if these minor religions are violent cults, which make themselves guilty of criminal offenses, then they should be imprisoned. But they should be imprisoned because of their criminal behaviour and not because of their religious background. Much like it has become outdated to see race or gender as a reason to discriminate, I believe that we should also stop to see religion as a reason to discriminate. I believe that an Emperor has to be an Emperor for all of the people, it is his Constitutional Duty. That includes people of other religions or beliefs. In such a position, the Emperor has a duty to protect the lives of those who find themselves under religious persecution. I am not claiming that there should be an end to Didecism as our state religion, and anyone who claims that I intend to do such a thing does not know me. My father was a very religious man and I myself often seek council from priests. I have come to the conclusion that religion has an enormous potential to both unite people as to divide them. If we continue our violent persecution of minor religions, then we have become as evil as those cults who preach violence and crime." Over all This candidate seems to have a great outlook on the future and wants to bring change to the Empire.

Our Other Interview as with A. Karl Gustav von Friedenswald another noble running for Emperor, he was asked the same questions as the last Noble. When asked the first Question he responded happily "I believe I have a unique opportunity to further the concervative cause in Vaeria. This Emperor election is an opportunity to demonstrate to all those who say that the system is somehow immoral or corrupt that those statements are patently false." This candidate seems to have more Conservative views compared to the other Noble.

When asked the second Question he stated “Some of the candidates have proposed adding many new organs of our already grotesquely huge government. They say that they do not want to take away from our most sacred and traditional offices, only add to them. This, I hope we can both agree, is remarkably untrue. There is our so much power in government, and if you want to add to one branch, you must take from another. I would seek to deregulate the economy, de regulate most aspects of public life in fact. I think adding to government is an extremely bad idea."

"I would not, however, seek to upset the balance of power in the two houses. The assembly already has enough power, any more will simply create instability."

This candidate hopes to Liberalize the economy ( deregulate) while staying socially conservative, when told this he stated "I think this is certainly not a liberal policy. Time and Time again these candidates have said they would add more powers to the Assembly, add more powers to numerous government institutions. Certainly deregulation is not a Liberal view."

When asked the final question about religious extremism he stated, "Well, let me first say this is not exactly my hill to die on, but if a religion has proved itself to be dangerous and volatile, like Prafism, then certainly it should be banned. But if they haven't committed such heinous crimes, then I see no reason for them to be banned." This Opinion seems to be very similar to the other candidates view. Too add onto the question we asked "To add onto that if there a Prafist who are peaceful, would you persecute them too or just the radicals?" In response we got If a religion, and this includes Prafism, has a vast majority of its adherents believing that violence is acceptable against civilians, then yes it should be banned. Just as if a terrorist group had members who hadnt suicide bombed people yet, they would still be arrested for joining a group whose leaders and adherents do that kind of thing. But if there was a sect of Prafism that came out and said 'Hey man, that was bad and don't do that.", then I would think that sect would be permissible." That was the last interview question we asked.

Over all these two candidates have a lot of similarities and differences and we congratulate both of them for their bravery running for emperor!

pretty good
Thanks, Sjwallace did a good job with this interview.

Just read through the history of the planet. Good stuff. :)
@skagerakk is a very good lore-maker if you ask me!

I kinda forgot to mention this in the OP, but I believe this is well worth to mention: I am not the only one making this interactive AAR. We are with 4 who are organising and making this interactive AAR a success. @skagerakk as he has shown already is our official lore-master, who made the history of the Empire we'll be playing as as well as invent the religions for example and the map with the cities, some of which players made up themselves but haven't been shown on the map yet. @Sharkrat is our official rule-master, he invented the ruleset which you can find in the OP as well as the, in my humble opinion, genius Intrigue system. Our last organiser is @Mr. Wiz , who will be actually playing the game and inform our participants in the server with in-game information when needed. My role is mostly managing the interactive AAR on the forum and posting updates. All of us 4 also have a specific role/character within the AAR which we will maintain throughout the AAR. For example, I am the Pontifex Maximus (Vaerian Pope basically), Sharkrat is our Lord Speaker of the Diet, Mr. Wiz is the Imperial Chamberlain and skagerakk is the Commandant of the Imperial Royal Guard. This should help us monitor and guide the AAR successfully.

Also, we are still waiting a bit for people to sign up and make characters/families/guilds before we really kick this thing off, we have plenty of nobles and can do with a bit more commoners for the People's Assembly and also clergy would be great to see join us. We will try to have an official debate between our candidates for the Imperial throne on Thursday (not guaranteed yet though) to give you a good idea on who to vote for before we open the voting stations on Friday. Besides the election for the next Emperor, there will be elections for the People's Assembly where a series of guilds will compete for their fair share of the seats in the Assembly. These elections should start on Friday and be open until Sunday, after which we will compile the results and release them.

My apologies for the inconvenience of the invite link expiring, I had made sure to make a link that couldn't expire but for some reason it did. It should be fixed now but if this would occur in future, don't hesitate to contact me or any of the other organisers here, I'm checking the fora daily so I should be able to see comments on time. Check the OP for the new link.

Hochberg, Vaerian Empire — Sunday, January 2, 2200

____________________________________________________________________________

Today, a VNN interviewer interviewed another candidate for the Emperorship, Fionn ‘Gallowglas’ Ó Leannáin. He gave VNN very interesting thoughts about the election, We asked him the same questions as other candidates but also we asked some more personal questions.

“Why do you wish to become emperor?”

"Well to simply put it: sustain what we have. I fear that we will have many noble houses try and become emperor for the sake of being emperor and not sake for the Holy Empire. My people have been loyal to the empire since joining it. I wish to maintain what we have the status quo is what is best and follow in what the last emperor wanted to go to space. I also have experience ruling over Principality of Hibernia and i have been in the military my whole life. I intend to become emperor as a caretaker look at all the houses ones with the great blood of your fore fathers. Dynasties that have the blood of the Cotlon's, Kumerian, von Kalle and there is properly one or two that I can't remember at this time. I do not think that the savage clans of Hibernia should rule as emperor as the next dynasty. This is also the important question which dynasty if any are worthy. In the past this happened and it nearly destroyed the empire we need to choose a dynasty we can all support or if necessary maybe vote on an Emperor of a certain dynasty with important bloodline to the hero's of old. So to put everyone mind at ease follow the last emperor footsteps choose a dynasty from the blood of old and head into space the status quo is the best we do not need radical change at this sad time."

He seems to be more socially Conservative, then other candidates, After some small conversation we asked him the second question:

"What are your plans or policies you want if your win Emperorship?"

"First, I intend to fulfil the last emperor's wishes to explore space. I see grand opportunities to improve our great Holy Vaerian Empire as the last emperor did as well. As a military man who has been around the continents I have had to deal with people from many different backgrounds, views, noble linages and political beliefs. To that end I am willing to listen to both sides, those bring royalist, conservatives, centrist and reformers. When it comes to the liberals well they say they want change but history has shown us that leads to violence.

Second if possible establish new outposts if we are truly able to use these roads in space "hyperlanes". We can the expand our empire and faith to the stars.

Third is to make sure that my relatives can not inherit this throne they can only do so after a vote by the many nobles from around our Empire.

Fourth is to decide how the empire will choose the next emperor and dynasty that should rule this will be one of my main goals and if a dynasty is found to train them to be ready for this role. Next is to deal with heretics and lawlessness. I also intended to rejuvenate many of the noble estates by funding in anew builds across the empire to give new jobs to the people and so second and third sons and daughters can have small estates to rule over. I also intended to rebuild the army to be strong enough to defend us a mighty one to speared our faith to the stars. Our fleet will be expanded so it can defend our Empire and new areas where both nobles and the people can set up new businesses in mining, agriculture, power plants, foundries and the many opportunities space provides us thanks the the Holy Vaerian Empire. We have a destiny Duke Hollerzollen every citizen has a destiny this will be a new age the age of destiny."

For the final question we asked the same controversial question (the one about religious extremism):

"Well end of the day they are heretics that is illegal and the law states that these people must be arrested. I am surprised some of the other candidates had mixed feelings about them but the law is the law. So first the peaceful ones I say convert them we only loose if we can not convert them. I am sure the clergy will take up this most holy task maybe we should make it a day where we allow these people to fall at the knees of the Pontifex Maximus and be converted to the true faith. When it comes to the radicals they must repent, killing them means they win they kept there heresy and are doomed forever. The important thing is to convert them. We do this through hard labour, punishment and ridicule and over time some of them may repent may cast off there heretical religion. I am sure the clergy know what's best when converting people. Of course these heretics will have to be watched very closely to ensure they have not went back to there heretical ways. To all of you who are of minor religions or who are praise the heresy Prafism go to the holy city of Albion and repent ask for forgiveness I am sure Pontifex Maximus will welcome you to Didecism with open arms."

Fion seems to have very different Response compared to other candidates, but still is open to some reforms. Now at the end of the interview we asked more personal questions just for fun.

“Who is your favourite of every others noble castle?”

He responded joyfully:
"Well then I am a traditionalist as many people know when it comes to architecture so it's gotta be House Canmoore only visited there once but they have made incredible castle out of sand. And of course I could not choose my own land we have ring forts not exactly castle."

“Which noble has the prettiest wife or concubine?”

My wife of course. She has barred me three beautiful children and another on the way."

"There is also all the lovely people in the audience as well." He seemed to have much fun with these questions. VNN did too.

Speeches from candidates for the vacant Imperial Throne

Archduke Carolus de Mérode
woWx2jF.png

Carolus de Mérode was born in 2170 in the noble house of de Mérode in Arcadié, which held the position of Archduke for centuries. He was educated in the classics and went on to study literature. He quickly became an admirer of ‘literature of the people’, pieces of poetry written by ordinary people about their ordinary lives. Carolus’ love for the people quickly extended to his public life, as he became bent on improving the lives of those he considers as his responsibility. Carolus de Mérode quickly realized that a good way to do this would be by extending their rights to participate in the states of government. In 2195, when he was 25, Carolus’ father died in an accident and Carolus became head of the noble house of de Mérode and Archduke of Arcadié. In his home region of Arcadié, Carolus has quickly become known for being a bridge builder due to his ability to bring people of all opinions together to work towards one common goal. As of 2200, he is an active member of the reformist faction in the Estates Chamber and has even put himself forward as candidate in the Imperial elections.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

26/12/2199 - Carolus de Mérode, Archduke of Arcadié, ascends a stage on one of Arcadié's major city squares and addresses his people.

“People of Arcadié and people of Vaeria, today I officially announce that I am putting myself forward as a candidate for the Imperial elections. I see this as an honour and as an opportunity to represent the people of Vaeria through the age old traditions that go with the Imperial office. As Emperor, I intend to build bridges between factions in order to bring further prosperity and stability to the Empire. There will always be issues that divide our great nation, but there are as many issues that unite us as a people and as a species. Humanity will make its first steps into the stars in the next few years and the Empire needs a strong leadership to accomplish such a goal. I therefore propose that we tackle this goal as one people, the Estates Chamber and the People's Assembly together under the guiding hand of the Emperor to ensure that our Empire can claim the stars for its people. My ambition is to bring our people to new worlds and preserve our traditions while we move to our next phase in history.

At the same time, our Empire should think of reform. Some institutions can be traced back hundreds if not thousands of year and have a long tradition within the politics of our nation. However, times have changed drastically and will change even more and these old institutions need an 'upgrade' as it were, of course always respecting their history and traditions. I believe that political reform can bring about a vigorous new way of how our Empire functions and will allow our people to move forward as one to claim its position between the stars.

I thank you all for being here. Glory to the Empire and glory to the people!”

The crowd cheers as Archduke de Mérode descends from the stage to meet with a few of his people.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30-12-2199 - Archduke Carolus de Mérode enters a stage in Hochburg, as part of his campaign in the Imperial elections and addresses a crowd in the capital of Vaeria.

"People of Vaeria, some out there wish to see my head on a stick simply because I consider myself as a reformist. To them I say, shame on you. I have yet to announce my plans for reforms, but let me tell you this. I do not intend to abolish any of our sacred institutions. That would undermine the authority which is installed into the Emperor on the day of his appointment. Instead, I intend to bring new institutions to Vaeria. These new institutions will not infringe on the powers of the nobles, nor will they infringe on the power of the people. Instead, these new institutions will bring both together in order to organize our Empire on a level that would allow us to explore and expand into the stars. As I have said, I intend to be a builder of bridges. These bridges will be built on the strong foundations of our Empire. Our institutions, the rights of the people to partake in elections, the strong voice of the nobility and the clergy, these are all factors which through the ages have contributed to the greatness of Vaeria. To destroy them would be to destroy our legacy.

As Emperor, I promise to be an Emperor for all. Not just for those who seek reform, but also for those who are most comfortable with the old institutions. I truly believe that compromise and unity is the way forward for Vaeria. And I fear that under a Conservative Emperor, the Empire will only see constant bickering between nobles on the left and the right. Some Conservatives think Reformists and Liberals are out to destroy the Empire, but have I ever declared my hatred for institutions? Have I ever made a statement which would point towards a violent overthrow of government? These Conservatives rule on the backs of fear. Fear for change. But I promise, change can be good. Even Conservatives can profit from change.

For the Empire, an eternal bond between the people and the Emperor!"

The crowd, which at first was somewhat contested on whether or not to support the Archduke, was now cheering for him and chanting his name.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

03-01-2200 - In an interview on television, Imperial candidate Carolus de Mérode, Archduke of Arcadié, says the following in response to the statement made by Duke von Friedenswald about big government and deregulation in the recent VNN interview.

"Matters of state are not that simple as the Duke of Westmark makes them appear. Governing is not only a matter of deregulation versus big government. In my opinion, governing is about knowing where the government is needed and where it is most effective. It is my personal belief that one man, in this case the Emperor, should not hold the entire fate of the Vaerian economy in his hands. If any regulation were needed at all, this should be handled by the Imperial Diet, who would be far more capable of offering different perspectives on the economy and through the reasoning of the many experts which reside in the Diet, the economy would be much safer.

My second point is regarding the new institutions our Empire would need in the next few decades. Duke von Friedenwald claims that founding new institutions will also lead to a loss of power for old institutions. This simply is not true. The new institutions I'd like to instate would deal with new problems which are currently not under the jurisdiction of our already existing government administrations. Things like colonization of other planets, relations with indigenous species, with other sentient species, interstellar traveling and interstellar combat. These will all be new things and will all need new ways of thinking to handle. Therefore it is not wrong to assume that new institutions will be needed.

Which brings me to my third and final point. I have said this several times already, but I'd like to repeat it again. The colonization efforts which our Empire will undertake in the next decades will need a strong guiding hand from the government. There are possible dangers out there in space and unregulated expansion or colonization may endanger the lives of those who are unprotected by the might of the Empire. Such an endeavour will need strong cooperation between both Houses in the Diet and coordination by the Emperor. To deregulate this process would mean a meaningless endangerment of our pioneers and colonists."

The interview continues on some more domestic affairs in Arcadié before ending in a cordial goodbye from both sides.

Duke Davos Le’Scarr Draskar
Wlry7lF.png

Davos grew up in the minor noble house Le’Scarr, who primarily worship Scipio, but has the distinction of being the son of the last Duke of Draskar. The Le’Scarr family has ruled over the city for the last three generations, defeating each of their challenges during the succession trials of the Falling Star Festival. Davos secured his title when he managed to arrest and destroy almost all the major gangs in the city, which earned him the nickname ‘Lord Justice’.

Logical to a fault, Davos often oversees the cities court system personally to ensure law and order is upheld to the highest standard. While this attitude has gotten him many admirers it has also frustrated others, as even in the face of a clear ruling Davos is likely to rigidly stick to written procedure.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

28-12-2199 - A broadcast is sent out from the grand cathedral of Draskar, its Duke standing tall behind a large ornate podium.

“People of Vaeria, our Empire stands at the threshold of a new age. Our passed Emperor has shown us the way forward, lighting the path with his wisdom and benevolence. He now watches us within the blazing embrace of Hecor, forever guiding each and every one of us to our true potential.

Which is why I, Duke Davos Le’Scarr Draskar, under the piercing gaze of Arius do declare my candidacy for the throne of the future Emperor. It is the god's will that Vaeria shall forever prosper, and I will take it upon myself to see that holy mission fulfilled! As Emperor I will ensure the glory of mankind reaches across the universe, that every citizen shall reap the boons of our glorious expansion into the stars!

The Empire needs a guiding hand as it’s destiny beckons, one who will listen to the wisdom of the nobles of estate chamber, to the benevolence of the clergy, and the needs of the citizens of the assembly. Under the glory of the twelve divine I shall be that Emperor! Hail to the Gods! Hail to the Empire!”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

06-01-2200 - Duke Draskar appears on a late night chat show for an interview, where inevitably his own candidacy is brought up.

"I am taking a stand for it is my necessary duty. My fellow nobles appear to have mistaken the divine mandate of the Emperor as merely a political title, and have demeaned themselves and our proud history by putting their own interests and pet projects before the needs of the Empire.

What is the Emperor? A reformist? A traditionalist? Neither I say! The Emperor is the lynchpin for the stability and order for our entire world! By pleasing only their fans my fellows invite discord into the very heart of our greatest institution. Such debates should be left where they belong, within the estate chamber and assembly which already have the powers they need to make their cases heard.

This is why we need an Emperor free of such passions. The Empire is best served by a leader who listens without bias, reforms when it is fair and maintains our traditions when it is right. One who does not forget the will of the gods, and ensures their benevolence reaches every citizen of the Empire. And by the grace of the gods I will be that Emperor!"

The audience gives a loud applause, only calming when the Duke sits back down. The interview continues on a more light-hearted tone as the subject of 'expansion' into the stars is brought up.

"We'll you know me, I'm a realist. I feel others have read one too many sci-fi novels and have been imagining all sorts of benefits and dangers out in the darkness of space" he gives a sly smile to the audience, everyone knew he was talking about his fellow candidates "The truth is the odds of encountering a habitable planet are one in a million. Even if one with a thick enough atmosphere was found it would likely only support a very small colony. As for other life forms? Hahaha! Ridiculous. At best we'll only ever encounter microorganisms, let alone anything that could actually threaten us. For once science and faith are in full agreement, mankind is the only species granted the divine gift of true sapience.

Now what is real is the bounty of resources that can now be extracted from these new start systems. With that bounty the utopian existence promised to us by the gods will at last be achievable. If some people could keep their heads out of the stars perhaps they'd also see paradise is not up there, but down here where we can build it."

Admiral Karl Gustav von Friedenswald
GufJ2QD.png

Karl Gustav von Friedenswald was born on August 1st, 2173, to the von Friedenswald Family, the Dukes of Westmark. He was raised in an extremely wealthy environment, and was always taught about the importance of the Nobility for Vaerian society how they are blessed by the gods, and how they keep the county afloat. He has always taken those lessons to heart. The main influence on his life unquestionably is his uncle though. His dashing life of adventure in the Navy has always fascinated Karl, and he wished to replicate his feats in every way. That is why, after graduating University at the age of 18 with his masters in Military History in hand, he joined the Navy and never looked back, quickly rising through the ranks of the Navy, reaching the Rank of Admiral at the age of 27. Three Years later, he got the news that his grandfather was dying, and on January 1st, 22oo, after his Grandfather saw the fireworks, he leaned in to take his last confession...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

02-01-2200 - The festivities, overlooked by beautiful weather, began with a huge parade, with Karl Gustav von Friedenswald at the head of it. He was in a convertible black sports car, adorned with the coronation garb, and was waving at the massive adoring crowds. His route took a lengthy route through the city, tracing the route that his grandfather Ramius took through the city. Once he had reached the Grand Cathedral of St. Margret, the traditional coronation site of the Dukes of Westmark. Once inside, the procession dismounted and went inside the cathedral. The beautiful cathedral's 7 layers of pews were filled with the most powerful and wealth of the city, nay the country. All of these people had paid top dollar to get in, and the show was not to disappoint. The Archdidecist of Westmark was waiting with the crown on a pillow. All fell silent when Gustav knelt before the Archdidecist as the crown was placed upon his head. When he rose, the crowd roared and his friends and family surged forward to congratulate him. Soon, the crowd took up the chant of 'Speech, Speech'. Gustav, ever the populist, took to the lectern and took out his speech.

"This day, new fire has been added to the cause of conservatism! All of Westmark has today shown the undying loyalty felt by all for the rich traditions of Vaeria. This trust, this belief in the divine right of the Emperor to rule, has been betrayed! All around Vaeria, the forces of liberalism marshal to attack our most sacred institutions. They claim to represent the people, but look around! This ceremony today gives lie to their words. These dangerous radicals must not take power in Vaeria. I urge all true Patriots, the good men and women who live our country to vote out these dangerous people. And to ensure that the Throne does not fall to those who would destroy in from the inside, I, Karl Gustav von Friedenswald, Duke of Westmark, Head of House von Friedenswald, will become the next Emperor of Vaeria!

Under my leadership, Vaeria will ascend to new heights, eclipsing even my illustrious ancestors! But if one of these Radical Liberals wins the throne, all will be lost. Our traditions, the bedrock of our society, will either and die. A new 1618 will be alone us, with all of the horror that we know will ensue. That is reason enough to support the only man with the guys to stand up to these Liberals. We must defend Vaeria!"

Gustav leaves the lectern to a roar of the crowd, and the procession continues to seemingly even more celebration. By the time it ends, the media has already eaten up the announcement of Gustav's canadacy, and it dominates the 24/7 hour news cycle for the next week.

Ruire Fionn ‘Gallowglas’ Ó Leannáin

Fionn ‘Gallowglas’ Ó Leannáin, Ruire (Duke) of Hibernia, has not made any public speeches besides the VNN interview. It is expected though that he will attend the “Grand Debate” together with the other 3 candidates before voting stations open the next day.

The section of the Albion Post article about the candidates for the Emperorship is ended by a map showing the places the candidates live and have their power base in Vaeria.

Speeches from prominent members of the Guilds in the People’s Assembly

National Liberal Guild
xdQqfLD.png

The NLG was founded in 2199 at the start of the Empire’s beginnings in space, seeing the noble class gaining significant power, the liberal minded Vaerians came together with their leader Samuel Hollenzollern to create the NLG to fight for a Liberal Vaerian Empire.

The National Liberal Guild is the Guild focused on reforming the Empire into a fully Liberalized Constitutional Monarchy with true power invested into the people with the monarch being above politics. We also see free market economics as the main way for The empire to Prosper and will defend the economic rights of everyone no matter social status. Over all The NLG is the liberalizing force in the Empire.

Duke Samuel Hollerzollen
LHomLRX.png

Samuel Grew up in the great city of Hochberg to the house of Hollerzollen. His parents instilled him values of leadership and the Importance of Liberalism and the Importance of an Upper House. We went to the University of Hochberg and Graduate with a degree in Economics and Political science, He later married and had 2 children. He now is a politician in the Valerian Empire.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10-01-2200 - "People of Vaeria, Noblemen of your respectable Lands, and any other citizens of the Empire, the Empire is expanding and so should we as a people, while our traditions are important and we should keep them to remember our ancestor and celebrate them, we also need CHANGE, Change is what the empire needs at these new Horizons, The people of Vaeria must embrace this, all of us noblemen, Commoners, and who ever wins the emperorship long may he live, If I Win a seat in the Assembly I will strongly push for Change while keeping our most Important Traditions to heart, maybe even new traditions might arise more "Free" Traditions, Therefore I announce my Run to gain an seat in the People's Assembly so that I may Change Vaeria for ALL OF US!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14-01-2200 - Samuel Walks up to the stage with a roaring crowd and begins to speak.

"A new opponent emerges, The U.C.M.O, a Militarist Extremist faction, While I do Highly Support our Armed Forces and Do wish to increase its Size and Power to Protect ourselves, a Faction whose sole purpose is the military is tyrannical. If they truly want to be a Proper Guild or Faction, they should at least Address other problems and not just the increase of the military. I also should add that the military SHOULD HAVE NO SAY in politics and should be an arm of defence not Political Action."

Samuel Walks off the stage waving to the crowd.

Meiji Corporation
Z33Whf1.png

The Meiji Merchant Guild was founded in 1925 on Shima in the city of Shinokawa by Mutsuhito Meiji, head of a small union of dockworkers who gathered their funds and bought a warehouse of their own. Instead of dealing with the transportation of agricultural goods and fishing, as most had, they established their power in the region by going wholey with the Imperial Army during the Great War of Unification; transporting supplies and, eventually, building ships from 1927 to 1940. With Imperial aid, and some inter-guild gunboat diplomacy, much of the industries and commercial guilds on the eastern section of the island became one under the Meiji Company. With this, their skills as merchants and shipbuilders was solidified.

By the year 2200, the Meiji Corporation has grown in influence in the political field and has now had three CEOs appointed to the People’s Assembly and are lauded as champions of the common folk, despite their status as aristocrats and power akin to nobility.

(Disclaimer: the history of the Meiji Corporation was too long to fit in this post. Those who want the full backstory can click on the link here.)

Oryou Meiji
pujubxP.jpg

Born in Shinokawa in 2168, the heiress of the Meiji Corporation was destined for greatness. She underwent intense and extensive schooling to graduate high school by the age of 14, finish her Associates in Chemical Engineering at 18, Bachelors of Aeronautics at 25, and finally a Doctorate in Astrophysics at the age of 31 (although Dr. is left off her name for PR reasons; it makes her appear both humble and still one of the people).

She has continued her education and drawn up dozens of designs from small transportation vessels all the way to theoretical designs of incredibly large colony ships that could house a cities worth of people and the agricultural, commercial, and industrial centers that would keep it self sustaining indefinitely.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11-01-2200 - Oryou speaks at a convention center in Sholgagrad.

"Greetings, my fellow countrymen! It's an honor to be speaking with you here, lifted up so highly (although I must say, quite the vertigo), in the grand land of Vostokia. History runs not only through your veins but in this very land and I've been utterly entranced by it yet again even on a simple business trip. But, regardless, that's not what I'm here to talk about today (maybe tomorrow). Instead, I'm beginning my campaign here in Sholgagrad to continue the Meiji Corporation duty of representing the interests of the merchant guilds of all Vaeria. I need not tell you the importance of such a task nor of the guilds themselves; of their contribution to your wants and needs; to their carrying of this nation on their shoulders and carrying us onward into the stars. I don't need to ... but I just did."

She laughs, composes herself, and takes a look out to the crowd.

"To do any of this, however, they need workers. They need artisans and managers, priests and scientists, every single person in a corporation is important. If I may make the metaphor, this nation is a guild of its own, our Emperor CEO, our noble managers, and commoners our workers, us. Without you we are nothing and when The Guild asks for your support we do not ask from some great height but from among your ranks, as one of you. Do as you want in the Estate House, vote with your morals, but when you get to the People's Assembly vote smart and vote The Guild. We will carry this nation on our shoulders, together. Thank you."

The United Council of Military Officers
5t0LxmU.png

After John Stockwell became a politician, he could not find a party to suit him so he created one from his own ideas, from the beginning he decided that only personnel from all branches of the army and navy could join and people that had previously served.at the start It was decided that it would deal with only military problems but they have branched out to other problems but their main focus is defence and expansion. Many higher ranking personnel joined at first but John saw that the lower ranks needed a voice so he branched out the members to the rank of Sergeant and upwards. His intention was to not be the most prominent party and become emperor but to protect the glorious empire better than the current parties have been. They have big ideas for defence such as boosting military research to create better weapons and ships and to improve the training for the empires army.their core beliefs are that most beings are equal and that everybody deserves to vote who will be leading them. The party is not afraid to start a coup or rebellion if they see the emperor is not fit to lead but they have massive respect for all politicians and military personnel. The party has a great sphere of influence over the military.

Admiral John Stockwell
JqEgjeC.jpg

When John was five his parents, both great navy officers, were killed in a space battle. As a result, he was raised by his grandparents. They were strict but made him a great tactician and politician, he joined the navy flying through the ranks to admiral. He saw that, in his opinion, the current guilds were not doing a good job in improving defence and created a party to help the empire in prove defence. He believes that all beings are equal and deserve a chance to vote who will be leading them. He heavily supports expansion and a large military. And he believes that nobody should be afraid to start a coup if they are not happy. He is cheery and confident man who can be strict if need be but is happy to support other parties bills if he likes it. He believes in press freedom and workers safety.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13-01-2200 - Stockwell stands in front of the press and military personnel at the academy in Goltunheim.

“Greetings, you all know probably who I am, you are all probably wondering why you should vote for the U.C.M.O. Well here is your answer... you all believe in the defence of our glorious empire’ cheers from the crowd ‘my party believes that the current Parties have been neglecting the military. My party will change that, you see the government has neglected to fund research into advanced weapon tech and new classes of ships, also they have neglected ship building. The fact that the empire has only three corvettes is outrageous, how are we supposed to defend our glorious nation if we only have three ships!’ Loud shouting from the crowd ‘i know that we just achieved space flight but my party will change that, if we are voted in we will fight for an improved navy and army and more funding for our tech, and finally I will fight for better after care of our personnel, such as if they have a life changing injury. vote for the U.C.P.O and nobody will be able to invade our empire!’

Void Craft Guild
3H6uKem.png

The Void Craft Guild, while officially registered as guild in 2100, its start was much earlier. Its companies that evolved into the Void Craft Guild got their start shortly after the Unification War. They originally engineering firms and universities funded by wealthy nobles house, Oppenhiemer house being the most prominent. They developed into corporations that handled telecommunication and satellite launches. While they did suffer a setback with the Oppenhiemer scandal, it didn’t take long for them to rebuild. As the 2100’s developed so did their power. This created several enemies.

As the year 2100 came about, politically the guild was not as active on the Assembly because the Oppenhiemer’s still not so secretly hoped to regain his families diet seat. Eventually with internal pressure Klaus III Oppenhiemer decided to become more active in the Assembly. This activity increased with his death and when his son became the head of the guild.

There are rumors of discontent within the guild. Some wonder how well Franz can lead the guild if he is the captain of a ship. Combined with concerns for his families tainted history and desire to get on the Diet has caused for whispers calling for new leadership in the guild.

Franz Oppenhiemer
IvxtALa.png

His father repositioned the family and guild headquarters to Goltunheim due to their business with the navy. There he raised Franz, between seeing navy training happening here and his father’s waning faith in the guilds loyalty. He joined the Navy Academy when he was 16. He graduated from the Academy 4 years later at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. While he performed well, his family's reputation and young age caused him to get passed up for promotion.

He split his time equally between simulator time on the new corvettes and learning his father's business. He eventually gained his captaincy 10 years ago. His main focuses now are learning about his father’s murder, regaining his family’s honour and a seat on the Diet. More outwardly though he has been pushing for the guilds influence on the Assembly.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Void Craft Guild has remained silent for the most part in the months preceding the elections, but has decided to last-minute join the election and sign up their gild to participate. It will have to be seen whether their troubled history will cause them trouble gaining support of the people in the People’s Assembly.

Vaerian Workers Guild
HBiuoZv.png

The Vaerian Workers Guild is one of the oldest guilds in the assembly and can be traced all the way back to the Scientific Research Guild which formed in 1622, shortly after the creation of the assembly in the then Holy Supralan Empire. Although unproven it was highly suspected that this was a branch of the Atomic group - an underground group that operated across all of Vaeria to further the pursuit of research, science and technology without the restrictions of the law or religion.

Upon unification of Vaeria, in 1957 the SRG rebranded as the Vaerian Research Guild which was seen by many as the culmination of the merging of the different Atomic Group branches into one legitimate guild to have their say on the world stage.

Following a merge with the Miners Guild, the Low Class Association, and the Vaerian Socialist Guild in the 2050s in a bid to form a stronger, united liberal guild in the assembly the Vaerian Workers Guild was formed. This new guild branded itself as “creating a future for the people” and has been a major player in the politics in Vaeria for many decades.

With the introduction of possible space flight, and under the new leadership of Troy Hendricks there are concerns among the guild and its leadership about hostile aliens that could bring harm to Vaeria and its people, and prides itself in “putting the people of Vaeria first”.

Troy Hendricks
lvMJGmU.jpg

Troy is a politician at heart, being in debate is the one thing that truly gets him excited and gets him out of bed in the morning. Born in Soulomen to a farmer, Troy was one of the lucky ones to attend school. While there he found a love for the history of the planet and the way that people interacted creating different stratas when the planet was split among many empires.

Using this history knowledge and seeing how poor his fellow city people were in comparison to the wealthy cities of the west pushed Troy into the world of politics. He wanted to change the world to make it fairer place for all. At the age of 18 he joined the youth wing of the Vaerian Workers Guild and worked his way through the ranks.

He moved to the VWG HQ in the city centre at the age of 27 when he became a prominent member of the guild leading the social and welfare arm, before becoming deputy leader in 2193, and finally leader in 2199.

He is married to his school sweetheart, Elisa and they are trying for a child.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just as with the Void Craft Guild, the Vaerian Workers Guild decided last-minute to join the elections and thus did not make any public statement besides their announcement to run for the People’s Assembly and outlying the stances of their Guild.

In my opinion, Admiral Karl Gustav von Friedenswald is the most frightening candidate in the field today. It's that smile juxtaposed with his backstory... *Shudders*
He certainly has this... look in his eyes. But so do some of the Assembly Members *cough* Oppenheimer *cough* ;).
