Sorry, got to share this Career highlight, because I was so chuffed that it happened :).

So I took a Contract to mop up the remnants of a Pirate Lance, & found myself facing off against a Cataphract, a Centurion and.......an AWESOME!

The Awesome was closest, so I got my Lance to focus that Mech. Yet my engagement with The Awesome was cut surprisingly short when one of my better Tacticians was able to decapitate the Mech with a single AC10++ shot to the head!

When the mission was done, I had a 2/9 salvage split......& filled the 2 slots with Awesome parts, then lucked out a second time when I got the 3rd part allocated to me :).

Now I have my first 80t Mech, & boy have I kitted that baby out. A PPC, 3 Medium Lasers, 2 SRM6's, a Small Laser in the head, a +2 Melee Gyro & a +40 Melee Arm Mod. This baby has been modded for brawling......with maximum armour in every location! I look forward to testing it later this evening!

Few Mechs completely live up to all their hype. The Awesome is one such Mech! : )

Congrats on adding one to your stable of BattleMechs.

Nice! My screenshots folder is flooded with surprise headshot kills, I really enjoy them too much.

Here's old screenshot of mine. Timestamp says May 5 2018, so back when the game first came out:

20180505015122_1.jpg

We had just helped Kamea liberate House Parata, setting the stage for the final showdown (I think), so I chose to take a break from the holding-lives-of-millions-in-the-balance job with a simple battle. Darius said it was only one lance, and this time he was right. There was one Assault-class lurking in the back, occasionally raining LRMs. I took out the rest of the enemies, no problem.. and then it came: MECH, 100T. The first time I'd seen that tonnage (I think). I was determined to take it whole, whatever it was. As it strode into view the skull-shaped head came into view: Atlas. My Catapult and Awesome, the latter piloted by my own character, began the time-tested ritual of spamming LRM to knock it down. The Atlas wobbled but held, barely. Buckshot's Battlemaster was sent in. About to overheat, he was sent to punch. I was prepared for a long game of repeated knock-downs, but instead that fist connected with the back of the Atlas' head and blew that iconic skull right off, winning the battle. The best sucker punch in recorded history.

Well anyway, sorry to hijack your thread like this, but that epic screenshot had just been sitting there unloved when your story reminded me of it. :)

Had a similar experience in my first career play. Still mostly in mediums. Took a 3 mission. First up was a Jenner. Took it out no problem. Only one more blip and we waited out of LOS over a hill in cover for it to come to us. Took several turns but what appeared but a Highlander. Fortunately I had an initiative advantage and a full charge on the precision shot meter. Took my Hunchback 4G moved front and center, vigilanced and put an AC 20 round right between the eyes.

Career got a lot easier after that.

Boom Headshot!

I got my first heavy mech from a similar lucky shot. They always feel so good when they advance you into a new tier of mech. :)

And also mention that a CN9-A kitted out with an AC/20 is a terrific force multiplier; especially when its pilot has Tactics 9.

One observation - that seems like a lot of SRM ammo to me? I'd have loaded 2T I think? :)

Personally, I would go with one ton of SRM ammo and drop one ton of armor from the rear torso to add jump jets. I would keep the PPC for some sniping and additional damage potential on cold maps. I'll occasionally use 2 tons for 12 SRM tubes, but you have enough backup weapons, especially with the melee focus, that I don't think it is needed.

An Awesome-8T in the post-HEAVY METAL world?

A pair of Snubnose PPCs would be the Main Weapons, backed up by a brace of SRM6’s and a troika of COIL-Smalls. All that covered by 1320 Armor and powered by 3 Jump Jets.

Nobody needs quirks when they're a melted pile of slag :p

The Awesome could definitely use some heat-related quirk.

I ran the “Snubbie Awesome” schematics again and that third COIL-Small? It ain’t going to fit in the Awesome’s Head. So rather than a troika, it’ll be a pair of COIL-Small’s in the Left Arm. That’ll leave room for eleven Heat Sinks, which will still put the Awesome ahead of the Marauder and Warhammer in Heat Dissipation of Paired-PPCs.

It’ll probably take me a long, long way into my HEAVY METAL Career Attempt but I’m going to try and breath some form, function and Big Stompy Life into the Snubbie Awesome. : )

Of course, this would be possible all the sooner if we had Snubnose PPCs and COIL-Smalls available in Skirmish Mode. But unfortunately this won’t be possible. : (
