Austiran tale... part 2
Vienna, Summer 1499
As I said last time we met, I decided to remain in Vienna this time. The general would cope with the Boehmians well enough without me and my greatest talent is, after all, not on the battlefield but in the halls of Our King. The court will need my gudance in the days to come.....
Vienna,Winter early 1500
A pigeon came yesterday, all is going according to plan in our war. We quickly took Prauge by storm, the glorious Austrian army is now siegeing the city of Erz. The only concern is that the Bohemian army may have been underestimated, allthough they can easily be defeated they are numerous. Today my fiscal advisor visited and he said that our economic situation is growing harder by the day.
Vienna, Summer 1501
I have not been well these last months.... headaches, trouble with my sleep... The army is still stuck in Erz, the fortifications are not surrendering and Bohemian armies are as the hydra. You destroy one, two more emerges.... From where do the get their money??? The fiscal advisor, Hans Wiesshart, is getting on my nereves to. He insist on lowering the wheight of our ducates, this would raise eagerly needed 200 coins but increase our problems in the long run.... So much work, so little time....
Tent on a field in Erz, Spring 1502
Distant cannons are spewing out their fire. I can hear them from my tent, here in Erz. The siege is not going well, the morale is dropping due to constant Bohemian attacks and the freezing cold last winter. Some days in Januar soldiers even froze to death on their posts. I recently recieved news of an even bigger army being raised in Sliesia. We must finish this siege now and defeat the Bohemians before that army arrives. The spring has been full of dissapointments... first I lost my first wote in the royal council for almost 15 years, we now have made 200 ducates of bits of other ducats.... and secondly I was ordered, ordered!, here to 'council our commander in the field'. Bah, Austria and I need a victory now.....
Some muddy road in nothern Silesia, Summer 1502
I am drunk..... heheha, complely drunk, fine wine from France.... hick.... Not that I´m not coping with the recent losses, no. No! I don´t give up!! hick.... hick.... we lost, badly.... sure, we stormed the city in Erz and engaged the Bohemi... hick...., Bohemian devils, may God send His wrath upon them!!!!, in Silesia. The used witchcraft to defeat us, and we are now a splinter of the once hick..... Perhaps some more wine, hehe, empty cup.... once great Austrian army. We are currently running into Brandenburg, it´s raining and cold, I have no horse left, just my trusty bottle...... *snooze*
Vienna, Autum 1502
I´m back in Vienna. There are now peace between Austira and Bohemia, we recieved Erz as compensation since we still controlled Bohemia and Erz. However the army is no more, all that remain are some walking skeletons in tattered clothes. Personally, I have been 'recomended' to take a healthy 'vacation' at my estate in Tyrol, to 'spend som time considering my sins'. Bah!! Those ungrateful bastards.... I will return...
Castle Janusienburg, Tyrol, Summer 1505
Today I recieved a request from my master, Maximillian I, may God shine upon his path, to return to Vienna. Not one day to late....
Vienna, 5:th of November 1508
Today is my 40:eth birthday, later in the evening there will be a great dinner that will show that I am once again in control here at court! The Hungarian ambassador will attend, I will consult him upon a thought I have had... Perhaps it´s time to unify Hungaria and Austria under Maximillian´s (and my) wise rule??
Vienna, 6:th of November 1508
Yeasterday I had one great victory and one minor setback. Hungary won´t join Austria. Outrageus, and that I told the ambassador that! He didn´t look to pleased so I suppose we will have to send some gifts to them next month. Perhaps more money will make them se the great wisdom of Our proposal. Ahh... the victory, yes.... We decided to go to war against Bohemia once more, early next year to be precise. This time we will not fail! We, and I, have learned our lesson, we will attack swift and without mercy....
Vienna, Spring 1510
Praise the Heavens! Today was the day of my dreams, as I first put the crown of Hungary upon the head of my Emperor and then the crown of Bohemia! Our war in Bohemia ended with a total victory, the entire nation lay before Our feet and then, at Austrias greatest point of glory, Hungaria understood the benefits of Our wise rule. We are now united, one powerful nation spanning across the entire middle of the continent, with an army second to none! The Bohemian king were perhaps not as enthusiastic as the hungarians, but since I held a knife to his ribbs he had no other choise other than to bow before Austria´s throne. The other major powers of Europe are not taking Our rise to glory that well. Poland, France and Venice have critizised Our annexations publically, even complaining before the Holy Father himself. Such insolence will no longer go unpunished. The Sultan was not to happy either, but who care what that heathen thinks.
Well, I am about to get one more victory, on the more personal plane. I have ordered a certain hungarian general to attend to me tomorrow. I will let him wait outside my chamber for a week or two, then he will leave for his new duty as second in command of the garnison in Transylvania. Just as a reminder that Erich von Janusienburg never forgets.......
