I think the CNT/FAI revolting and starting a three sided civil war most of the times makes little sense, so I would like to propose something.

What if the CNT/FAI (Regional Council Defense of Aragon) starts as a "puppet" of the Spanish Republic? Of course, the Republic would lose control of their territory (and factories and troops), but the Anarchists will still fight the Nationalists as allies in a war, but not the Republicans, and take territory for themselves ("expanding the Anarcho-Synicalist Revolution" through Spain), although maybe there should me a modifier to make them deny any kind of land occupation request... If not, they could instead appear as an ally within the same facion (similar to the United Chinese Front, but considerably smaller)

...HOWEVER...

...The master-puppet (or ally) relationship would break once the Soviet influence is too heavy, and then you will have the civil war between them. It could happend before the Nationalists are defeated (if the war goes well) or before, thus unleashing the three sided civil war.

Something similar could be done with the Carlists in the Nationalist side, maybe.

They should start as a puppet of the Republic and instead of war, the Republic would try to annex them. In Historical they would agree and the Republic would get debuffs for street violence, if the Anarchists refuse, there's war.

I think the Republicans should have a focus to mirror the Nationalists, where if they start winning enough they can delay the Anarchist revolt and/or weaken it so it can be eliminated fairly easily.

Should they do well enough, they should have a counterpart focus to Nationalist Spain, maybe called the May Days, where the anarchists are crushed and won't rise up but Barcelona + co become claims instead of cores with a decent amount of resistance.

Absolutely NOT. The anarchist uprising is already exaggerated for gameplay reasons. The Republic had control of most of it's territory at the beginning of the war, and the "independance" of the anarchist communes of east Aragon was short lived and circunstancial. The anarchists never controlled any territory. Instead they were a faction within the republican side that revolted. There was never a Republican - Anarchist frontline.

The thing I would definetely change about the uprising is that instead of the Council of Aragon, the tag should be CNT/FAI. The aragonese communes never orchestrated anything by themeselves. The subversion of the republican war effort was perpetrated by the CNT/FAI with the help of the trotskyist POUM.
