You need to consider the exchange rate and VAT when comparing prices between the US and Euro Zone.
Currently €1 = $ 1.06
But Paradox is Swedish so it needs the amounts in Kronor
€1 = 9.5 Kronor and $1 = 9 Kronor
VAT rates in Europe range from 19% to 25% and on international digital transactions such as these are paid at the rate of the country where the purchaser is (and it is that government which gets the VAT)

So a $19.99 US sale is worth 180 Kronor to Paradox but a €19.99 sale is worth between 151 and 160 Kronor
Therefore the yanks are actually paying more - it's just that our governments are getting a slice rather than you personally via lower prices.

This enables said governments to fund much larger social safety nets like universal healthcare or things like free childcare (in Sweden) - these are things our American brethren have to pay for out of the savings they make from not having higher taxes on the goods they buy
Don't know about the universe you describe, but in ours what people "pay" is the money they give, not the money the company receives, so not, the Yankees don't "pay" more.

And, for the record, I understand what you're saying but you are using all the wrong words to describe it (not to mention that where I live, the government only provides for social groups I don't belong to - parents, disabled and unemployed - so "I" specifically pay "a lot" more).

Ascension Perks: Collect Unity points and adopt Traditions to unlock Ascension Perks that allow you to customize your empire in unique ways. Follow one of the three Ascension Paths and achieve Biological Mastery, give up your biological forms in a Syncretic Evolution, or unlock the full psionic potential of your species through Transcendance.

There is an error in the ascension perks description. I am fairly sure the term should be synthetic, not syncretic.

As for the price, 20$ seem's more than fair considering the number of new features and their impact on the game.

Now just need a release date.
The price looks ok but it is quite alot more than DLC for other games. Also when Stellaris is £35 having a DLC which is nearly 50% of the base game looks a little odd.
But it does look like there is more content then first made out.
Kind of wish it was like TW where you dont need to buy DLC to see its effects on the map. But not sure that would work with this game.

I'm of two minds. It's a good DLC, and I'll definitely get it, but €20 seems a bit overpriced to me, too. On the one hand it's not that much money, on the other hand it's the price of a whole game, at least if you count small-ish indie games. I guess maybe it's the amount they need to charge, and I know we also get lots of free content to go with it, but at times, it'd be nice if there was maybe a kind of loyalty program where you built up "DLC practical" and got them for a smaller price the more of them you bought or something.

Then again, there's always sales ;) .

So far every paid content or feature release is accompanied by forum avatars that relate to it somehow.
Is it safe to assume that we'll also be getting new avatars this time around of phenotypes not shown yet to the community?
Cybernetics maybe?

Yea going to wait till Sale, also until combat is fixed or made fun not really any point buying DLC.
When you compare it to Indie games and other DLC it does actually look very overpriced. But then so was the plants DLC, not that familiar with Paradox but had a glance and they all seem to be very pricey. Although we still dont have a full feature list, so could be some surprises.
How often do the DLC's go on sale ?
