Ok can someone explain amphibious tanks in NSB for me? Previously we had two amphibious tanks. To be researched. Nie we have one chassies and one modification. Am I supposed to use them together? Or can I now turn everything into a boat by adding an amphibious drive? Who will stop me from creating an amphibious Maus tank? So Manny questions.

Amohib module can be mounted on any tank except super heavies. Amphib chassis don't need the module to float. That was what I remember.

Headspace is someplace else so might misremember

Ok, but why a chassis and a module? Why not two chassis? Is there a reason to use the chassis over the module? Is a heavy amphibious tank something that is physically possible?
The amphibious chassis has the highest hardness, second lowest armour, and somewhat high cost. It also allows you to have 4 special modules instead of dedicating one of them to the module, though it doesn't allow for secondary turrets.

In addition to super heavies not being able to mount the module, moderns can't either.

Who will stop me from creating an amphibious Maus tank?

While I have created heavy amphib tanks, it's still a tech investment to do it. It's a niche unit and usually not worth the trouble. If you're designing a tank to do a naval invasion, chances are you're not going to need that much armor to overcome the defenders, since they're likely just a pure infantry garrison division. If you're trying to naval invade a tile that has armored divisions waiting for you, then thats not a good site to land.

Now if you're thinking that you'll just use these tanks to cross rivers (thats what I made heavy amphib tanks for), there are other easier ways to mitigate this penalty. It's easier to have a general with makeshift bridges that you'll use once or twice than it is to commit to researching and producing a heavy tank to just cross rivers. I did it and it's fun, but you're not going to want it as your main battle tank. You'e going to run separate production lines to just do this one task.

Design cost is cheaper usually to just add a module to an existing tank design.

In practical terms, you have marines, you have amphib tanks, and finally you research the module. by then it is too late. And if it is single player, there's a good chance your amphibius tanks land unopposed or the marines do all the fighting while the tanks wait forever to be reinforced.

I've never had that problem.

The problem I've generally had is that there is little to no point in using amtanks. You can already get enough mods to remove naval invasion penalties or river crossing or whatever, with just the amphibious mechanized, engineers, flame, officer traits, what have you. So you can just mix regular tanks into the formation instead of amphibious ones and be just as well off.

Since I can take a port with either amphibious tanks or regular tanks before running out of fuel, I don’t think this is the case. My last Sea Lion was literally just panzer divisions. I couldn’t be bothered to use foot infantry.

but the larger question about uselessness is worth considering in the context of things beyond amphibious invasions. There are plenty of rivers that need crossing. There are also plenty of marshes. Do the terrain bonuses make the increased cost worthwhile? Is it only worth it if you add Amtracs to the division as well? Does it matter that amphibious tanks count as special forces? Are they overpriced? Underpowered?

And perhaps the most important question of all: does it make sense to just se amphibious tanks exclusively and rethink how you even use armored forces?
