Does anyone know if you can start planning amphibious assaults while at peace? As Japan, I'd like a quick and decisive victory versus China so as to not tie up resources and armies. Land 2 - 3 amphibious assaults on the Chinese coastline. A quick victory in China can lead to (if at war with the Allies) a very quick takeover of Australia and India.

Yes you can, you can draw any battleplan while at peace.

But do they prepare when you're at peace? I remember it taking awhile to prepare an amphibious assault before it can actually be implemented. Like can I draw the amphibious assault battle plan, then wait until it's ready to go to declare war?

Watch towards the end of the Japan Singleplayer WWW stream and you'll see his units getting a planning bonus while at peace on his amphibious assault.

Yes you can prepare the battleplans while at peace. As Mannstien said above me, you can see it with the WWW invasion of the Philippines.

You can start planning on 1 Jan 1936 if you want. Especially if you intend to DoW China after 70 days.

Good luck on defeating China quicker than Daniel, especially after the latest changes seen in the WWW.

Still, assuming you defeat China by the end of 1938, are you planning to annex China and then immediately DoW the Allies? That's a very brave strategy.

It's bound to lead to early war with the US.

I'm thinking for my game as Japan, follow my strategy with HOI3, main invasion coming in from the north, several amphib landings after 1-2 months when I know they are moving some mainline troops to the northern border as decoy's not meant to conquer but to divide and focus mainly on building the divisions and equipment needed. The rest I'm going to play by ear but what I still "DO NOT LIKE" is the fact that Mountaineers still don't seem to be required for Hills/Mountain terrain you can still though slower plow through with infantry. With BICE mod and on a hard difficulty I cannot even get close to a capitulation of China without these specialized troops.

Annexing Coastal China and then forming a puppet out of inland China. That or just taking a few resource-rich provinces and puppeting the rest.
If not the allies, then at least the Dutch for the oil.
Otherwise, I'll simply focus on Singapore and the Dutch East Indies before landing in Australia.
If that would seem to piss the US off too much, there's always Siberia. Strengthening a German invasion of the SU and making my resources less accessible to Allied invasions.

I think they prepare even at peace but the enemy can probably dig in at peace as well.
Yes, planning bonus and entrenchment bonuses are built at peacetime. Wouldnt make that much sense otherwise anyway, since you prepare plans before you declare wars ;).

I think I recall Daniel saying that you can plan an amphibious assault while at peace, but that amphibious assaults in general don't get any planning bonus.
