1518-1535: English rise
Last years were very important to the history of England as she finally started to grow. Henry VIII showed to the world his greatness in diplomacy, military and economy.
On the 20th anniversary of the great naval battle of the Channel (when 33 French warships, 4/5 of French total Navy was destroyed securing for England Scotland, Calais and the safety of the Kingdom itself for a long time) Henry VIII gave wonderful news to the English aristocracy: He had managed to convince his personal friend the Archduke of Austria, Holy Roman Emperor, to sell to England the Low Countries in its totality, but Luxemburg, actually a German land.
Another victory of the English diplomacy was the agreement that Henry did with Gustav, King of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. The English King gave Jutland back to the Scandinavian King in exchange of a large amount of ducats, Oldenburg (a small German county, bordering the Netherlands) and Swedish’s promise that it wont colonize any land south of Anticost, a coast province of North America. England, in other hand, promised to don’t colonize north of Manicougan.
But if the continental aristocracy lobby was happy, Henry couldn’t forget about the new world lobby, formed by the bourgeoisie and some nobles, called the New World lobby. Henry invested large amount of English treasury in developing the North American coast and exploring new lands. Now the coast is finally secured to England. Henry also agreed with Spain a reasonable border on North America.
But the new adventure was really to come. In 1523 a conqueror named Jacob sailed to the West coast of Africa and started to explore and colonize lands there. He found a enormous variety of products there that soon will started to go to London: Slaves, Ivory, China ware and Gold!! Also he found French in small provinces named Palanas and Leone. Soon Jacob sent his emissary to make agreements with the French emissary. This was the startup for a meeting of Henry VIII and Fraçois I.
Surprisingly, considering the history of England and France, they could arrange a very good agreement. They signed a Non-aggression pact (of course respecting Henry’s wishes to include a clause that France can’t attack Henry’s friend, the archduke of Austria, Karl V), they decided a reasonable border for them in Africa, which will be soon or late explicit of all (but in general secured Timbuktu to England and Nigeria with Benin to France). France also decided to not press any claim in North America while England will stay out of South America (OOC: Won’t it be Brazil to Brazilians this game probably). And last, but least, they agreed common goals for the future and new lands discovered in Asia.
Also friendship with Poland was strengthened and England also joined the world warn about Russia’s fast and illogical expansion. And of course, the friendship with Austria remained excellent.
England created a good base for a long term growth. Will it happen?
