It has taken me a while to start colonizing the americas, and I finally noticed the bug seemingly introduced by the creation of the 1.4 patch and Conquest of Paradise DLC: My provinces suddenly merge together into various countries, keeping me from my final goal; total unification of the globe under one nation.
I need this to be a toggle. I can't have parts of my country suddenly splitting off from me.

Edit: Some people seem to disagree with me that this is a bug. What I mean is that with most events you have the option to choose between two equally disruptive options. I would happily suffer through months of civil unrest if that meant I could keep my colonies a part of my main nation rather than have them split up automatically.

It's not a bug. It is an intended feature included with conquest of paradise, and it's historical for the mother country to have less authority in their colonies. Many had self rule, which is represented ingame by the colonial nations.

I consider it a bug; there is no player choice in this and I require it to be a toggle so I can turn it off when I do not wish for this behavior.

This behavior also does not appear when using a (Westernised) Indian nation and starting to conquer Europe. If this is a feature, then why don't the conquered European nations become autonomous colonies as well? Just because it is historically accurate does not mean it makes for a balanced or enjoyable game mechanic.

All I am asking for is a (console) entry to turn this behavior off or otherwise give the player the option to retain these provinces without them suddenly becoming autonomous without forewarning.

It isn't without forewarning. When you have colonized 5 or more provinces in North or South America (or Australia), a colonial nation forms. This is always the case, and has been since the release of conquest of paradise, it is not new, it is entirely intentional, and it does simulate colonial governance pretty effectively. If you colonize other parts of the world (most notably Africa and the Spice Islands) as a European, you instead can form a trade company with the requisite DLC.

If you conquer some of Europe as a Native American, or as anyone non-European for that matter, you will still get the distant overseas penalty of minimum 75% autonomy that any colonies get before a CN forms.

If you want to avoid the forming of CNs, move your capital to the Americas and they won't form.

A bug implies some kind of defect; that the program isn't working as designed. This feature is working exactly as designed; your opinion doesn't come into it, it is definitely not a bug. You may, however consider it a bad feature, if you so choose, without being incorrect.

Okay, so I guess my comments were deleted, even though this troll's left up.

Dude, just because you don't like it, that doesn't make it a "bug," and the game is better for having it.

It is without forewarning; I did not receive any message that this would happen until it did.
It is new to me personally; I had not encountered it before in my games, no matter the date when the DLC was released.
Thank you for the tip about moving the capital over. I shall consider this in my games from now on until there is a viable toggle in the game which allows me to turn this behavior off.

Did you just recently get the game?

I wouldn't be worried about the loss of territory if I were you, though. I mean, the Autonomy malus actually causes you to lose more money than having a Colonial Nation does, and Colonial Nations don't need to babysat.

No, I bought the game within the first month after its release. I simply have not had the time to play as much as I had wanted to and my attempts to play so far have been Holland/Netherlands vs Europe which has been difficult enough to do right without getting overrun by the HRE. I only focused on "the new world" after successfully annexing all of Europe.

It's not a bug, and your complaint brings literally nothing new to a discussion that was thrashed to death at the time of 1.4's release.
