I am almost finished with my Austrian Napoleon-campaign and want to start a GC with an American civ.
What civ is most interested and has the best chance of surviving? I like to play Aztecs, because you know quite some other civs from the start and that helps a lot, of course. But are they too hard?

Thanks!

If you want better potentials as an american nation, try Rythins new mod, Road to power.

I like the Aztecs and Incas, you can easilly blitzkrieg the neighbouring nations, and you have a large income.

Incas are good, but you have to expand fast otherwise the inflation will screw you (so much gold/too much gold!).

Surviving is not usually the problem with the americans, enjoying them is. They are all pretty boring until you are discovered.

Ah, but the challenge!
It's quite a different experience from your normal game. And, you do have the advantage of knowing that they're coming ... (the Europeans)
I quite enjoyed the Iroquois. The English and French both built colonies nearby, and rarely fortified them. Avoid battle, raid their colonies, and run up a decent score ...

It's also easier, as you don't have to worry about technology. As Aztecs, Trade 3 would have been completed in the 7000th century :D

Well, currently RtP is in a phase of intensive testing. I do plan to make a lot of event-driven sequences (like Lenape reaching Latin and creating the United States of North-West America, etc.). And thanks for an advertisment :D

Indeed, that would immediatly trigger an event in which Spain gets all of the Aztec Empire, right?
I have started the GC with Aztecs, it is now 1480. I have conquered the three nations you know from the beginning. And the others in Northern America I just have contact with.
What was that bonus again for which you needed to know 7 or more other civs? Some tech bonus, or something?

Correct if Spain controls the capital then they inherit the Aztec empire

As the isolation malus in the tech development, you need to know 19 other countries... Doable by alliance, alliance wars. Dont annex, but vassalize!

Then there is the whiteman penalty... hehehe this is a tough one... you need to have 5 interactions with non-american powers... or you cant build cavalry or ships at any level of land or naval tech...

Indeed that is a tough one. I only know Spain now. There aren't any Portuguese, Dutch or French colonists yet. I do have war with Spain and am holding all of their provinces I know. And have defeated every army they have send, although they were very small. So far I am doing quite good, I think! I only don't get to sign a peace. They won't give me anything, and they won't even sign a white peace.

did they go to war by themselves or are they in an alliance? alliance wars are very good for you, as you discover the other countries and they discover you, but there is no way for them to send troops against you...

most of the time, AI-SPA or POR or ENG (colonists ones), don't call their allies when they DoW a pagan...

when they do call their allies they dishonor, because i think the AI will refuse war with a country it doesnt know. but then they get to see Spa or Por, or Eng's enemy capital, so they rejoin the alliance. So after the war is over, dow Spa, or Por, or Eng, and their allies will honor and you will meet them.
