There's a little patch called 0.2b :p

No, I mean 1.03b doesn't work with my copy of Victoria. And if I'm installing a mod I would want to install the latest version, which is intended to use the beta patch.

I think there are some problems about copy protection.. I heard this about the spanish version. There is a thread in the Tech-Forum I think.

I like to see VIP as an evolving process...while we have had some successes, the road's still admittedly a bit bumpy, but I'm sure that, with time and effort from the VIP team and all our contributors, many things will be better in the next few releases....

True, but hopefully Friendware solves the Starforce issue when the next patch comes out, considering what their spokesman has said...

Have they lowered the prestige gain for the US in the Civil War?
I tried it once with France and there was no way to win against the US as their prestige gain for every province conquered was immense.
Furthermore, the Africans rebelled when I annexed them (as I could not colonize, I thought, well, France has to do something!). Funny thing is, they just rebel until 1860, from then on you can annex without problem. Leaves you to conquer them minus their capital, wait until January 1st, 1860, and annex the rest. Ah, and that's just the inner-African states, Tunis, Marocco and Al-Djazair did not revolt when I annexed them.
The "economy tweaks" were bad, I was making way too much money, it was too easy, at least for France.

I play Vanilla Vicky, did I mention that?

I play Vanilla VIC. (With a change to USA events to allow reconstruction to fire. I view that as a bug.)

I never <thinks hard for a minute>, yup, never, have installed a fan-based mod to a game. <shrug> I just don't.

I havn't really tried VIP. From reading it it has a few things I really don't care for. Some of the tinkering with the production of items comes to mind, if I remember they cut back on the amount of Machine Parts made. They're already in a pitiful supply as is. Granted that's an easy fix. I'll probably wait and see how it looks after their next release. But yeah, Vanilla's fun but just doesn't seem to have as much going on at times.

I think so. The ACW is being massively redone and I'm not one of the ones doing it, but I'm pretty sure the prestige gain is lower. Oh, and the latest tests had the ai vs ai ACW lasting 3+ years, no more re-annexing the south in 6 months! :D

Always keep in mind that mods like VIP and CORE are never "finished" mods but constantly in a state of evolution to the next edition as version are released to the public and things modders may not conceive of for games are reported by players (my experience with creating playable Syria, Lebanon and Egypt for CORE taught me that lesson and quick!) Things get fixed, new concepts are introdcued, and the process repeats ad infinitum. For me as a modder the thing I love the most is the constant process of improvement and tweaking in the attempt to have the AI recreate history, and then the human player interacting with it either to recreate or rewrite that history. But especially with Victoria it has taken several months to get a fairly solid understanding of the game mechanics so that more creative modding can be undertaken - and we still learn new things everyday. I, for my part, undertook the work that has reorganized India and added all those new African states to the game. Fingers crossed the testing proceeds as I hoped there will be a British Indian entity to complete the construction of the Raj and survive the 1857 mutinies. But does that mean the new African states or India will be "completed" in the mod when 0.3 is released? HELL NO! I've got a whole notebook full of plans for both regions but real life means many of those ideas will have to await future releases. But with what has been added so far I hope my additions will make for a more challenging, and more historically realistic, experience for the player. So if you haven't tried VIP before, try it when we finally do release 0.3. It never hurts to try anything once...as long as everyone invoved consents :D .

For me, vanilla has too much going on. The AI is far too aggressive compared to the nations of this period. That being the case, VIP seemed almost insane in terms of the wars being fought.

One thing people should keep in mind is that from 1815 to 1914, there were no general wars in Europe. The Austro-Prussian War, the Crimean War, the Franco-Prussian War, the Balkan Wars, and the Russo-Japanese War were very limited in geographic scope and duration.

The AI certainly doesn't match this. Great Power wars occur in Victoria every few years. They sometimes last ten years (has anyone ever seen the USA and Spain end their war in under 5 years, I'm not sure I ever have) or more. These are Napoleonic scale wars occuring in an era where from the Congress of Berlin to the Balkan Wars there wasn't a single conflict in continental Europe.

Exactly and we are now getting to the point where we are understanding the various dynamics of the AI so hopefully in the AI vs AI field a more historical representation can be developed. 0.3 will not fix this 100% to everyone's liking, but it will be a step in the right direction and as time goes forward our ability to refine the AI behavior will grow more precise.
