I use VIP since 0.11~ most because of the many new events. I like to see new AI behavoir or added countrys.. its like a new scenario to play. But I dont like all of the changes... in one version the Ottomans become alllways a economical powerhouse and for example in 0.2b France gets all of the african claims.. a few left to Portugal. I love the events but with the US you suffer a bombardment of them ;) Indian Raids, Tarrifs.... Yellow Fever.. its ok but I think if you want to simulate every single Yellow Fever epedemie in the US you should do it also to China, UK, Argentinia, Zulu........ In one game Russia only had 20 divs in 1870... they backdown in the crim conflict, didn´t annex any of the central asian minors and never gone to war with china. In 1870 they become steamrolled by german and austrian hordes.

...and I never saw unified Italy or Germany in vanilla :(

I´m looking forward to ver. 0.3

First of all, for some god-forgotten reason I got extremely weird mental images from the tittle.

I was extremely hesitant to try VIP.

VIP has it's good sides (Piratini Republic! :D ) like more events and historical accuracy but it also has bad sides. The lack of machine parts is DREADFULL. I got one of my games ruined because the utter lack of machine parts. Also, the slowed down cultural techs occasionaly give some weird results... Research Realism as your first tech and the first realism invention triggers ten years later and you score meeghty 1 prestige.

I don't know which one is better, Vanilla or VIP.

haven;t tried it yet..
i am trying to avoid 'patch overload'
which doesn't yet seem to be a big problem with victoria..
although can be annoying when it occurs.
e.g.
spent 2 months on an abyssinia game, about to finish, then a new, gameplay revolutionising patch turns up, and you have to decide whether to jack the old game or accept constant forum comments about 'oh, you're still playing the old version, i couldn't possibly comment on your game any more, you really need to get up to date..'

Okay, so let me get this straight...

Yesterday when I first read this thread, it began with Memnon musing on whether he's the only one who doesn't play VIP, and in one day he's been talked into downloading it, found the abysinia.csv error, reloaded, crashed his comp, cursed Bill Gates, solved the problem, reloaded again and now finds it to be enjoyable and is looking forward to .03.

Darkrenown, I nominate you as salesman of the year for the VIP beta team! :D

VIP is great :D After played it I can't think returning to Vanilla. :)
But, please make some events for Romanian unification, Bulgarian and Albanian independence and Balkan's wars.
Besides in 2 games I've played, I never saw Germany. Prussia never attacks or defeats Austria (without annexing North Germany) therefore it is too weak to defeat France.

I sense ...

... some reminiscence of the EEP/AGC discussion in EUII. Some just adore multiple events - others feel that their hands are tied.

I tend to lean towards the latter. In addition it is quite obvious that not all parts of the world receive the same attention. This tends to make the game somewhat unbalanced.

SO...

Some things I like (particularly the improved AI and of course corrections of outright errors) some things really anoy me. Would it be possible to install just some of the mod? That is - without having to browse through every thread in the MOD forum to get just the right files.

At the moment I play vanilla

Not to my knowledge, no

I've played VIP since 0.1, still hugely enjoying myself despite some minor disputes (yucatan + rio grande). Vanilla just doesn't have the same buzz of events and stuff actually happening. I have to admid, though, that I'm a mod-junkie (squints at sig)

Well, you can remove part of the events, by editing the "events.txt" file and removing the flavor event files. ;)

It is good to know what people do not like, so we can know what should be "reviewed". ;)

i think all should try that... specially in MP... -120MB of RAM is too much to ignore it!!! :D

It's also nice to 'hands-off' in background mode.

I don't play VIP and probably won't.

VIP crudely increases the costs of units to keep army sizes down. By doing that it precludes the Balkan states and other important minors from ever developing armies. In that way, VIP turns Victoria into more of a EU style "big powers gobbling up small powers" game, whereas this period was all about the large powers disintegrating.

I've also found VIP's AI to be even more warlike than Victoria's, and one of the major problems with Victoria right now is the recurring war syndrome. The AI's proclivity to go to war every 5 years with someone is annoying enough as it is. The AI doesn't need any more encouragement.

well, i have seen Bavaria with 40 divisions... even Argentina can have a good army size... so?

Yes, that's true in v0.2... but that part of the game is being completelly reworked for v0.3. :D
So, you should give it another try in the next version... ;)
