Um, I just HAVE to post this since I just saw it in DR's coolio pic of Prussia 1836 ...

In VIP, Prussia has both N German and S German! wow! And to think I was having fun with the Vanilla setup (no S German). Man, could I ROCK THE WORLD with THAT PRUSSIA!

Currently, 1875 .. I have 7 million pounds and Germany united the Bismarck way. Now, yeah, in vanilla I have S German culture ... but at first vanilla Prussia does not. Actually, I usually just get the lead and sit back and not lose it. I mean, satelliting the Russians or France is not a challenge. (But I fear to end that French nuisance I might get reparations from them this game. My how they like to die to my armies!)

So, as I write, I have new question ... is Prussia harder in VIP? I kinda like being a 'little military GP' as vanilla Prussia. With S German culture right off the bat .. WOW! Hmm, maybe I should go look at the mod posts where this has been discussed.

Ok, forget about my previous post. After searching for the problem, I finally found the issue on page fourteen of the VIP bug thread. So it's been resolved. I just slipped up installing some files to the wrong folder. So everyone calm down, Memnon still has his Victoria. Tell the Queen to stop blubbering, Memnon is OK! I just ran out of juice. And before a thousand girls say "what's the point of living anymore", I was talking about petrol. Woof woof!

I love Flasheart. Blackadder is the best show ever.

But back to VIP...

So I've been looking at this map. It seems interesting. Look, there's the Piratini Republic, made infamous by Nerfix! And a dozen random African countries. Wow. I'll poke around a bit, but I don't think I'll seriously get into it until .03 comes out.

Ok, forget about my previous post. After searching for the problem, I finally found the issue on page fourteen of the VIP bug thread. So it's been resolved.

Ok. Gates is still the Anti-Christ though.

So, after you post that map of Africa, I say to myself, huh, I should see this for myself, so I download VIP .02b and extract. Ok, my bad, I forgot to install .02 first. So I uninstall Victoria then reinstall. Load 1.03. Load 1.03b. Install .02, extract .02b,and still, stupid abyssinia.csv error. I know, I looked at the VIP bug thread, but all they said was "make sure you installed in the right order". So I did it again, all over again. And now, my autorun doesn't work. Thanks to Dell, I'm using XP, and thanks to Mr Gates, who feels he needs to protect me from myself, I can no longer seem to access my own CD drive through explorer. And since my autorun no longer seems to be functioning, I can't reinstall Victoria.

For the first time since I bought the game in November, I can't play Victoria. Someone, tell me what I did wrong please, and how I can fix it?

Yikes. I'm not sure how you managed to break your computer, but I'll try to help. First, does a restart help? Second do other cds work? With the vic cd in, have you tried going to start->run and typing "D:\install" (or setup, I'm not sure which Vic uses)?

If you get it working again, don't install VIP into your default install, make a copy and install VIP onto it. That way, if anything goes wrong you just re-copy Vic instead of reinstalling it.

As for the lack of abyssinia.csv, it really sounds like you fudged the 0.2b install, but we can go over that when you have vic working again.

Anyway, I now came up with a great reason for me not to be using VIP. It wouldn't work properly with my copy, because 1.03b doesn't work with it.

There's a little patch called 0.2b

If it weren't for Bill Gates, I would have gone into the windows folder and deleted all those needless files, taking up space on my hard drive.

I use VIP, and along with Darkrenown's mods, it makes for super fun happy time.

Well 0.3 will have my unification mod intergrated, so gobbling up the german minors early will add to your BB. south german culture was added so the rhineland would actually be an industrial center.

Seriously, Darkrenown, VIP looks to me like it has some nice potential in it. I especially like the remapping of Africa. There are some interesting things that I'll have to look at, but at least I can understand what all the fuss was about. We'll just have to see whether or not it lives up to all the hype. It can talk the talk, Darkrenown, but can it walk the walk?

Oh, and if a mod is necessary to play 'correct', then that kinda insults Paradox in the first place.

Well part of it is it chages the focus rather than "fixes" it, some people want a more historical, event heavy game. Another part of it is some parts of the game really do need fixing. Paradox is my favorite games company and Vic is my favorite game, but there are events that don't work or are unfinished, vital events are missing, some inventions have the wrong triggers and can never fire, some places have wrong populations, countries have wonky starting armies/techs and so on.

I don't mean any insult to the dev or betas by saying that, I've made maybe 300 events and the amount of bugs and unintended results I (or others) have found after testing and releasing them is amazing.

I haven't played much VIP, but I definately like what I've seen. As delta VIP goes towards 1.0, the chance of me abandoning vanilla Vicky will steadily increase

But I don't consider myself to be a dinosaur, no sirree. Too much of a monkey to be one
