VIP is great, you get(bear in mind I'm playing 0.3 so you may not see all these things in 0.2b):

New and much improved ai. Ais rather as most countries now have several and can switch back and forth depending on situation(wars, events etc.) and time period.

New countries and revolters.

Tweaked economy.

New gfx, most countries troops have their own uniforms.

A host of bug fixes.

More and improved events (as one example, Italy almost always forms, as another: the us can buy alaska).

More historic colonization times.

Some expolits have been made unexploitable.

However, there are things people may not like:

The historical colonization times, even though you can remove them in about a minute if you so desire. These are actually under review at the moment and may be different when 0.3 is made public. Possibilities include giving everyone the ability to colonize at the same time (1860 probably) or making colonies cost a new good.

Too many events. I think the USA is the only one that has enough events to be annoying and it'll probably have to be streamlined a bit, but the way the improved ACW chain is shaping up I think you'll forgive the abundance of events. You ACW buffs should love 0.3.

The game is more challanging. I think this is a good thing, but others may be annoyed when their favorite exploits are removed.

Edit: I saw lotus mention VIP crashes more, I think I've had one CTD while beta testing 0.3 and that crashbug has been fixed, but that's it. Given that I've had no Vic crashes since getting 1.03 I suppose that is more crashes, but that's the risk of beta testing.

Actually, they're up to 5 years now. But there's less of africa to colonize, take a look:

Yikes. I'm not sure how you managed to break your computer, but I'll try to help. First, does a restart help? Second do other cds work? With the vic cd in, have you tried going to start->run and typing "D:\install" (or setup, I'm not sure which Vic uses)?

If you get it working again, don't install VIP into your default install, make a copy and install VIP onto it. That way, if anything goes wrong you just re-copy Vic instead of reinstalling it.

As for the lack of abyssinia.csv, it really sounds like you fudged the 0.2b install, but we can go over that when you have vic working again.

Well 0.3 will have my unification mod intergrated, so gobbling up the german minors early will add to your BB. south german culture was added so the rhineland would actually be an industrial center.

Well part of it is it chages the focus rather than "fixes" it, some people want a more historical, event heavy game. Another part of it is some parts of the game really do need fixing. Paradox is my favorite games company and Vic is my favorite game, but there are events that don't work or are unfinished, vital events are missing, some inventions have the wrong triggers and can never fire, some places have wrong populations, countries have wonky starting armies/techs and so on.

I don't mean any insult to the dev or betas by saying that, I've made maybe 300 events and the amount of bugs and unintended results I (or others) have found after testing and releasing them is amazing.

I think so. The ACW is being massively redone and I'm not one of the ones doing it, but I'm pretty sure the prestige gain is lower. Oh, and the latest tests had the ai vs ai ACW lasting 3+ years, no more re-annexing the south in 6 months! :D
