1. write-protected files in the HoI2 folder. just right-click on the entire folder and select-deselect write protection once.
I installed DD yesterday and opened the editor to try it out and I was unable to edit anything, which was a bit annoying and wrote it off as yet another bug, but thankfully I saw your post here and immediately removed the "read-only" and now the editor works fine.

A couple complaints so far is that editting units, for example, edits the original database and there is no way to retrieve it, or revert back to the original after editting. I had assumed the editor created duplicates you could enable/disable. The lack of an undo option is annoying as well since I may change something and forget what the original digits were. Also it would be nice to highlight multiple items and edit a single value that applies to them all, instead of presently having to click and edit each item's value one-by-one. Quite tedious. Lastly, I was hoping for an actual graphic map display to visually edit provinces and ownership; a lot easier to do than knowing province names and jumping around to ensure things are consistant. Ah well, can't have everything you want...

Tried all of Tracid's tips and unfortunatly they didn't work either so I'll PM Florain about the possible version difference as Vulture suggested.

I'm experiencing the same problem again only this time it came during the loading of the 1936 scenario:
Code:
"Error Province : Unexpected field id = 81 line 17 file scenarios\1936\uk.inc"
I'm no expert but should it really say 'id' that many times?
Line 17 is where it says "rare_material = 6" (according to notepad).
I did not edit britain but added some extra IC (with the editor) to Berlin in the 1936 scenario file and saved, closed down and then started DD.

Code:
{ id             = 9
  anti_air       = 2
  air_base       = { size = 4 current_size = 4 }
  id             = 81
  rare_materials = 6
  oil            = 11
  id             = 309
  energy         = 6
  id             = 85
  metal          = 22
  id             = 87
  ic             = 3
  id             = 301
}                  # Glasgow

I know this isn't a support forum, I'm only pointing out the observation.
I'll forward Florians reply to this thread.

Edit: Typo, should be inc not ink :eek:o

Erm im new to the editor, but the file the error refers too is a .ink, a shortcut, is that the problem or does the game understand shortcut files? It should be .inc

It's broke.I had tried to add techs and the game won't start.Paradox have given no information about how it works.
There is a bug where changes to the 'doomsdaytext.cxv' aren't correctly made by the editor. The solution is to copy back the original version of the file, open in it in Excel and make the changes manually.

Sounds like a familiar line number to me.
Could be a pair of mismatched parantheses, a missing { or }

Open up a different .inc file and compare parantheses.

Worked for me (though it was in an scenario file ( .eug))

I did not edit britain but added some extra IC (with the editor) to Berlin in the 1936 scenario file and saved, closed down and then started DD.

Code:
{ id             = 9
  anti_air       = 2
  air_base       = { size = 4 current_size = 4 }
  id             = 81
  rare_materials = 6
  oil            = 11
  id             = 309
  energy         = 6
  id             = 85
  metal          = 22
  id             = 87
  ic             = 3
  id             = 301
}                  # Glasgow

Seems to me that this part of the code changes province statistics. The comment "# Glasgow" suggests that the list used to be shorter.
Province 9 is Glasgow.
Province 81 is Muenster
Province 309 is Cottbus
Province 85 is Goettingen
Province 87 is Bremen
Province 301 is Stralsund

And that last province has no modification (only the ID line).
Now it could be that the game expects the following code:

Code:
{ id             = 9
  anti_air       = 2
  air_base       = { size = 4 current_size = 4 }
}
{ id             = 81
  rare_materials = 6
  oil            = 11 }
{  id             = 309
  energy         = 6 }
{  id             = 85
  metal          = 22  }
{ id             = 87
  ic             = 3  }
{ id             = 301 }
}                  # Glasgow

But compare that with an unmodded .inc file.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I need to reinstall the game first (that's the only way to get the game working again after I experimented with the editor the first time). I'd like to know I'm working with the correct set of files.

Didn't we tell you to do a backup before you alter the game files?

Yeah, I know I know. I'll do that the "next" time :rofl:

Oh and yes, I could not find Florian among the users so I tried e-mailing them on the marketing address but it just bounced back :(
I'm sure I read a post by one of the moderators about Paradox changing an e-mail server recently, hmm...
