I founded the Stoics on converting to Hellenism, which seems to give events where I give education boosts to children. Except that those events (Something about taking them to the market and then giving them +1/+2/+3 Learning, + some other attribute) aren't firing for the children I'm guardians to. I'm educating random children in prisons instead. Never played with the monastic orders so I'm wondering if this is working normally or is it because of my lunatic trait which I acquired during the conversion?

I also THINK that children level up fine under my care except when getting their education trait wherein it seems much much more random than normal. But I can deal with that but just sending them off to someone else just before they turn 16.

Finally, other than weird events firing for the trait, is there anything I can actually do with the lunatic trait? I remember watching the early trailer for CK2 and learning that you don't get murderer trait or something if you have possessed trait and you murder someone...

Yeah, I was confused why I got so many pop ups on this (I have a LOT of people in prison sometimes).

It is actually useful though because you can set them all to Faith and then when they hit 16 demand religious conversion, or alternately when they hit 16 recruit them--

I've had success getting high loyalty opinion high intrigue spymasters this way, and in one game this resulted in the Emperor of one of the traditionally Muslim areas being a zealous reformed Germanic pagan and converting all of North Africa to Germanic faith which has set up interesting dynamic for Great Holt Wars with another major power out there.

Always get rid of kids in prison unless you NEED them for something. They will steal events you want for your own kids, such as the mentioned society events, or when the smith makes a child carry bars to get brawny.
Educating imprisoned children to flip religions of other realms, or force them into religion based civil wars, is a valid strategy for which you might need those kids, indeed.

Just to add to what others have said here, children in prison have their captor set as educator by default.

This does not cause issues with events that occur individually for each child, but if an event is written to occur for a random child you are educating, it will cause issues. :( I usually execute them unless they are heirs or rulers that I plan to flip culture and/or religion on, or bloodline bearers I plan to recruit and wed to someone get hold of the bloodline.

You know, you COULD just release them instead. They're just kids, stuck in prison with no one to talk to except their captor and maybe a pet rat. They didn't ask to be captured, it just happened. No need to be a complete monster.

Just be sure to castrate them first.

Pay attention, kids: this is how you do good "tension humor": start with something that is mildly offensive or annoying to the person(s) you are talking to to build up a little bit of internal tension in them as you start the joke off. Then release all the tension in one fell swoop. That was hilarious. :)

Damn. That's... stupid. Ok, I released all the kids.

You... released them? I'm a bit confused. You mean they were released after blinding or castration? Or do you mean release as in what their liege lord purchased for their ransom? ;)
