For all those out there, another American new player; decided to play with the Portuguese instead of a more traditional butt-kicking Power....
Lots of mistakes, but began the game on a hard/aggressive setting. As an accountant, tried to maximize revenues at all times...
Anyways, here goes....
1492 - House of Avis, reign of Joao II
Portugal begins with 450 ducats; hey, not a bad pile of starting cash....I immediately begin to blow this on upgrading investment and trade, as well as build up the troops in Morocco, where 40,000 Muslim warriors are set to wage Jihad against all 10k of my troops in Tangiers...
5/11 - I see why Granada always gets annexed in other games; the Moors get waxed in their home province and try to besiege Andalusia, while the Spaniards capture their home province....End result - you guessed it; Granada annexed....
6/16 - Turkey declares war on the Mameluks
8/12 - What did Courland do to Poland? Half of Europe declares war on them including Poland-Lithuania, France, Savoy, Navarre and the Pope...
10/15 - The end result is no surprise. If God himself is against you, you get annexed....(Courland to Poland-Lithuania).

1/16 - I am still without solid allies, and am sweating potentially hungry enemies (Spain/Morocco). Fortunately, the French (along with Poland-Lithuania, Savoy, Navarre, Helvetia, and the Papal States)DOW Spain and her allies (Milan, Naples and Lorraine). This is going to be one party I'm going to avoid....
2/1 - Denmark declares war on the French and all of her allies....
3/24 - With everyone else occupied, Austria invades Bohemia.
12/16 - Milan pays the Pope 250 ducats to cease hostilities..
I end the year with an upgrade in infrastructure, and start promoting officials...I roll the dice as soon as Spain tangles with France, and move all of my troops to Tangiers. I am up to 35k at the end of year.

1/3 - The Milanese wimps get Helvetia to agree to a white peace. I wish they were on my borders...
9/24 - The Pope and Lorraine agree to a Status Quo arraigement...
11/17 - The Spanish, in a lightning move, destroy the Swiss army. Helvetia is annexed on the 17th....
11/23 - Navarre's 15k army is smashed by Lorraine's 31k; shortly afterwards, Navarre pays Lorraine 250 ducats (probably Navarre's income for the next decade....)
At the end of the year, Joao II kicks the bucket, but we have upgraded the army and navy, explorers are moving around, and we are starting to get the colony express going...

1/12 - Milan has got to be close to bankruptcy after buying off the French for another 250 ducats.
4/8 - Savoy and Denmark agree to a Status Quo, probably because they don't know where the other's country is...
5/5 - The Muslim World heralds alarming news - The Turks have annexed the Mameluks....!!They are starting to get WAY too close to me...
6/11 - The Crimea declares war against the French coalition, minus Helvetia, of course (why??)
8/8 - More war, this time Kazan invades the Golden Horde...
9/1 - Revolt in Tangiers! We lose 2k (army down to 38k), rebels crushed...
9/5 - Savoy buys the Spanish off for 250 ducats (war seems to be profitable for my next door neighbor...)
10/19 - The Austrians lose the Sudeten and Moravia to Bohemia...probably the only army in Europe worse than mine...
12/14 - Lorraine, who has been quite successful, buys off Savoy for 250 ducats...(why?)

3/18 - Lorraine concludes a highly successful campaign against the French by securing Nivernais and Champaign..
4/8 - Crimea loses Kalmuk, Kouban and 172 ducats to Persia. I had no idea they were even at war....
8/22 - The Spanish crush the pitiful remnants of Navarre's army and annexes them. Portugal and Spain are the ONLY Iberian countries remaining....(Uh, King Ferdinand, why do you drool every time we send a diplomat over...?)
11/9 - This is an expensive war for the Crimea. They lose Azov and 10 ducats to Poland-Lithuania...
