If an invasion war is cancelled because it's invalid - ie. the claimant dies (in the case of China) or the leader of the target nation changes, it's extremely infuriating to have the entirety of your efforts go to waste, but even more so as the game won't allow you to do it again as you've apparently failed.
Thus, you should either be permitted to select another claimant, or at least launch a second war without being stopped by your "failure".
