A happy New Year everyone!

I recently finished a game with major Colonizer Spain, and really enjoyed the overall theme and functionaliy of the Colonial System.
A few minor things though, that could improve the experience even further and should not be too hard to implement given the code written for client states, would be to rename and recolour your Colonial Nations both at the beginning and after they were already created.

For Example if you created Castillean West Indies and Castillian Brazil, you could change them to Spanish West Indies and Spanish Brazil etc.
This would really push the RP after forming Nations!
It would also allow the Changing of names for Colonial Nations you got by Annexing another Colonizer.

In my Recent Game this was French Canada, which i could not merge with my own Canadian CN, nor change its name or colour, which was a little hiccups for RP-Purposes...

Coming to my final point of "Merging" Colonial Nations.
This could simply be achieved, if you guys added a button in the diplomacy menu of your colonial nations that would read something like "Eclipse".
It would only be available, if you already are the overlord of another CN in this CNs Main Colonial Region.

Choosing this Option would detroy the CN and give all the Provinces back directly to you, giving you cores on Provinces they Cored etc.

These Provinces would go back to your other CN directly!

I hope you consider these changes!

Greetings,

zerosius

Something like this would be nice - in my Spanish achievement run I annexed my vassal Portugal and so I had two nations in the Colombia CN region. This would fix that.

I feel like the merging of CNs in the same region should be fine, and also think you should be able to found multiple in the same region because especially in Africa each region holds multiple modern-day nations and you should have the option to found colonies for each modern-day nation regardless of whether they are in the same region or not.

I'm also for the formation of seperate entities in the same region if they are apart (except for islands of course). For example if I control the New England area and Florida with a big blob of something else belonging to another nation in-between, it makes no sense to have these belong to the same colony. So maybe colonial nations should form once you have 5 bordering provinces in a region. If at any time the borders of multiple colonies meet, they can merge as long as they are in the same region.

Merging should leave cores of the previous nation so old colonists could revolt, be released as peace condition, etc.

Colonies in RL history has always been created, merged, and dissolved for various reasons but often for administrative reasons. For example, we had East and West Jerseys that became New Jersey, while Canada has undergone several administrative divisions/redivisions since British conquest of 1763. I believe Spanish colonial empires in the Americas also underwent changes in its viceroyalties or whatever colonial divisions they used through creations/merging. Thus, it stands to reason that creating or merging new CNs would serve the administrative purpose in game just well as they did in RL.

The current mechanics with multiple CNs in the same CR are really weird. For example, I just integrated Portugal, so I have Castilian Mexico (north of the Mesoamerican provinces) and Portuguese Mexico (south) now. Portuguese started a war against Itza, almost lost, so I stepped in, sieged and annexed a few provinces, which I'd hoped would go to Portuguese Mexico... except they happened to go the Castilian Mexico, which will now have a hard time squashing rebels in those new provinces. Looks like having multiple CNs in a CR mandates a non-interference policy by the overlord, lest he create some serious border gore.

Currently the only way to fix that seems to be driving one CN's Liberty Desire high enough so you can release them, then attack and annex them again, but that feels a lot like meta-gaming around missing game mechanics.

Allowing merging CNs in the same CR as a diplomatic action would be ok. Or demanding them to surrender or sell provinces, for a serious Liberty Desire bump, so the territory can then be sold back to another CN. As AmbroStoics suggested, the old CN could well keep the core, so the new CN would have to core it and risk losing it in a peace deal - quite plausible, and a nice way to balance utility vs. cost of this feature.
