Currently, when an antipope is created, he is solely the Catholic religious head of the realm in which he has been set as antipope. There is currently no way for an antipope to be recognized as the legitimate Catholic religious head by more than one realm. In order to change this, I think there should be (EDIT 23/08) 6 new game mechanics added:

- the ability to swear fealty to the antipope so that the antipope becomes your religious head. Some cardinals/bishops could maybe individualy abandon the pope and swear fealty to the antipope.
- the ability to diplomatically ask another Catholic country leader to accept your antipope as his/her religious head
- if you follow an antipope: a casu belli to impose your antipope as religious head on another realm
- if you follow an antipope: a casu belli to depose another antipope in favor of your own antipope. If you succeed, your antipope becomes the religious head of those who recognized the former antipope who has been deposed by this casu belli.
- if you follow an antipope: a casu belli to depose another antipope without your antipope becoming the religious head of the deposed antipope.
EDIT 23/08: - being able to stop following an antipope to follow either another antipope or the pope.

By the way, if the sponsor (cf. https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...agan-ways-and-love-god.1108126/&sdpDevPosts=0 ) follows an antipope then the people he/she sponsors should also follow the antipope. Moreover, there should be a system which tracks who is the religious head of each bishop, this way when a Catholic bishop is sent to preach in a realm and converts a pagan, the pagan will also follow the bishop's religious head (be it the pope or an antipope) should the aforementioned pagan become Catholic.

Also, I think a 6th option should be added to my first list:
- being able to stop following an antipope to follow either another antipope or the pope.
