Hi!

So since the beta started i've noticed something that i feel could be a problem.
If you see a lobby with lets say 3 out of 6 spots filled, you can almost guarantee that those spots are 3 axis players with zero allies, with people coming in and then leaving since there is no axis spots availiable..

Think i've got to play axis 2-3 times in total in about 20-25 games or so, sure i got no problem picking allies but it seems alot of the playerbase does. Had just been fun trying on axis in more then ai games. ;)

So am i complety mistaken or is that something more people noticed?

IDK why, Allies are pretty strong right now. I feel guilty playing 2ID or 3AD because it ends up being such a damn bloodbath if you LOS your tanks well and take advantage of powerhouse American air tab. Hilarious seeing German fighters get called out like they can catch anything.

Guessing it's the wherb factor.

All the casuals stacked NATO in Wargame because pop culture and pop history told them that Soviet equipment sucks even though the Soviet deck was the most powerful one for competitive play since forever.

All the casuals stack Axis in Wargame because pop culture and pop history told them that Allied equipment sucks and German tanks are unkillable even though the Scots deck is the most powerful one for competitive play so far.

I think it's for the same gameplay reasons as CoH 2.

Allies: more cost effective and versatile which results in boring, generic playstyle. Also 2ID and Scots division are like NATO in early RD release - braindead ez. Nobody wants to play these snooze divisions unless tryharding 1v1 I think... Allies remind me of Britain in CoH 2, the biggest disadvantage is you might fall asleep in the middle of the match.

Axis: flavourful, tasteful units, much less cost effective infantry. Only exception I think are 10 point goons and Pionier < 100m. Instead of a-moving hordes of cost effective goons you actually have to play the game.

And obviously Axis will be quite popular because of a particular taboo cultural development these days ;)

Pretty much this. Allies are too boring because it's all about spamming thoose OP units (specially infantry).

Those people playing Axis are the ones looking for the challenge, I sincerely believe they just tired of playing OP Allies. I know I do.

I do too. The only thing were Germans got advantage is the tank section, and only the 12 SS. Recon and AT is even, infantry and air are overwhelmingly on the allies side, support also for the allies (sk-18 and nebels cannot compensate for the other decks).
And that's about categories individually, if you look at the full divisions you will see Scots or ID with no downsides at all, while 17SS or 12SS only shine in one thing (LL not even that).

You have to see where you play...

1vs1 conquest games and conquest in general is a completly different universe than destruction or 10vs10 (while I still dont get why there is 10vs10 conquest at all)...

I dont say thats bad, it would just be nice if EUGEN supported both game modes equally in steel division.

I think this is more the fact that a lone player does not want to chance playing against 3 people who are playing together with comms. As the decks are released, and the meta shifts, the popularity of each side will shift. Sovkor in RD took the balance over to the Reds, then Israel took it over to NATO, then back for the Finns. It happens...

As IS-2 says above, it's all about the playstyle.

Compare CoH 1 and CoH 2. CoH 1's powerful, charismatic, and interesting Allied armies resulted in people spamming the heck out of them. In CoH 2, the comparatively boring, ugly, and spammy Allied forces are vastly out-picked by the Axis.

SDN being a more niche game only makes the balance of selection worse, as the Wehreboo factor comes a bit into play.

GOOD MATCHMAKING, which is very obviously the key to SDN's commercial success, would bring in more non-grognards who would flock to the Allies.

Really, no discussion of any aspect of SDN can escape the overwhelming importance of good matchmaking. Unfortunately, Eugen and Paradox seem to have reached final design without realizing same. Oh well.

I have never seen this happen in any context. People flock to Axis because they're the Rommel Blitzkrieg best tank of the war Hugo Boss guys.

Who the hell do you think saw Fury and wanted to be in the Death Trap Ronson mistake tanks? That's the pop history image of the war. Nobody picks "the good guys" to play in a strategy game.

I am very familiar with the phenomenon, but I think it only applies to those with an enthusiasm for war games. I would go back to Company of Heroes 1, when it was popular and played by the general public. Allies ruled the roost.
