Hi,

so I don't know exactly when this changed, but I tried to play a bit of EU4 yesterday and today, and basically the ally ai does simply not work anymore. I don't complain that the ai fights poorly, it just doesn't fight at all. It just sits at home, chilling.

Vassals sit at home regardless of whether they are set to "supportive", "aggressive" or the default. Regular allies also sit at home. Occassionally (very rarely!) a vassal or an ally might move one of their armies into the general direction of the conflict zone and I am almost fooled they will help me. But then they just shuffle around a while, avoid any conflicts (doesn't matter whether my armies do fighting in the province right next to them), and eventually return home again.

I have literally not seen a single fight where one of my allies is involved in the last ~6 hours of play, and that is including several game restarts as well as campaign restarts.

Right now I am getting completely trashed by france as burgundy, despite my alliance in theory having a 2:1 army superiority. But I can't get Austria, Brandenburg or Milano to send a single soldier. Access isn't the issue, I can walk towards all of them just fine. My lowland vassals also don't send a single soldier.

Honestly, this makes the game so much less fun than it was before. Is it possible to somehow revert to an earlier patch?

Try setting war objectives in provinces
This is the biggest joke. It is not on only terribly awkward to set those given the current UI to do this and also would introduce unneccesary tedium to any war in this game.

AI needs to be smart enough to follow at least basic agenda. Just look at this game over the years. The AI does not even know yet to focus war goal provinces during wars. It is as if they would not even exist.

I don't, know, but I don't want a game where I have to micro manage every step of an ally army using submenus and tiny dropdowns to have a somewhat minimum smart AI.

Also, ally behavior makes me very much worry for countries not controlled by the player. If you want competitive games, you need your computer enemy to have smart allies, too. I don't think they teach AI countries to "set war objectives in provinces" either.

Cool, OP is asking for advice on how to fix his issue, for me this usually fixes it
