I think the AI in general tries to help it's human allies once it enters the war, if it have access to the war or is capable of getting access. This is usually more than can be said about many human players.

Bumping old threads is silly.

Not when the still apply :/. My tale of Oyo sending regiments standing on a unit with the attach box checked into the natives shows the futility of trusting the AI to do anything other than kind of move around. If "attach to this unit" while standing on the same province as a vassal well under supply limit doesn't function with any consistency, then the OP title and implication is every bit as relevant now as it's ever been.

This is an old thread, but I'm going to bump it because this is STILL a MAJOR problem. I'm really tired of watching Austria's 120k stack in one province doing absolutely nothing except draining his manpower while little ol me is left desperately fighting off the combined forces of Netherlands and France on my own. Meanwhile my Vassals have their 30k stacks just chilling in completely random provinces completely ignoring the provinces I've designated them to capture and ignoring any attempt to combine their armies with my checked unit. These are really cool features that Art of War added, but you know what would be even more cool? If they ever worked.

Even if your allies derp out, the enemy AI still considers the strength of your alliance when considering peace and war enthusiasm, so they aren't completely useless.

As for actually helping in your war? I haven't had that happen yet...

plz explain why france got trashed by burgundy, castille and austria then in my foix independance war.

And i'm not even talking about a 1k stack with attach put on, to move ally armies around one province at a time.

And people generally forget that allies kill your rebels if you focus on sieging entire wartarget with attach put off on all siege armies.

Etc etc.
