Alliance - Lost

I'm playing a count in the UK as Shrewsbury province. I've arrange a marrage with the Princess of Gwened (Wales) Alliance is formed.

But now I want to become independant province and break from the Duke of Hereford.

I go to war, hoping my ally will join me, but nothing happens, he just watches. I've tried to see if there was an option like "call to arms" (ask an ally to help) in the diplomacy tab. But there is nothing.

The Duke is ally with northumberland and he joins him to fight me. I get outnumbered.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you looked in your "Allies" tab in your character screen? If the duke's name is red it will tell you why he cannot join your war. It might be because he is not in your realm and you are fighting an independence war. I dunno otherwise.
