Sorry about these long posts, but I wanted some feedback before I packaged these events.

First are some events to guarantee that the axis powers are formed. I don't think such events actually need to be written, but some players have complained about having trouble getting Italy and Japan to join them.

These events are for those who want to follow a historical path, and make sure that the axis are formed.

I trust the diplomatical interface to handle all minor nations, and to allow some kind of freedom in alliances.

Italy is broken down into two event-chains, to make sure that the events will work in both the 1936 and 1939 scenarios.

Right, the surrender events. The Japan one is a quick and dirty solution, because there's no way I'll match all IDs for all areas Japan may eventually conquer. But letting USA inherit Japan, and then create them again will effectively restore all territory Japan conquered from USA's allies. Doesn't work for already conquered nations.

Ironically, this quick and dirty solution is quite accurate to what really happened.

The Italy surrenders event have already been posted on this forum, but I'll post it again.

Addendum: What about USA and Germany, then?

Well, I pondered writing an event for Germany, but without all those nasty colonies, there's no need to implement a scripted splitting of German territory and restoration of Poland. The game is pretty much over anyway, while Germany may still have a good chance if Japan surrenders, depending on how well they do. So, co-annexation between USSR and the Western allies should work just fine. (As soon as they fix the bug that prevents the USSR from joining the allies, at least.)

As for America, I suspected that if I mentioned a single word about the what the trigger for American surrender would be, I'd have a flame war on my hands. =)

Besides, complete annexation should work fine for America, as well. I should probably script an event that makes Germany/Japan sign a white peace with USA after the fall or Russia and/or Britain. But if that happens, the winner of the game is already clear, so I see no need to do that.

For those of you who didn't want to look through the entire event code, and/or don't understand what the commands mean:

Britain surrenders if she loses London, Newcastle and Birmingham, and does really badly on either the African or South-East Asian front at the same time.

Another requirement is that either Russia does badly on the eastern front or isn't at war with Germany, or USA is doing badly/isn't at war with Germany. "Doing badly" for USA in this case means that they have not yet invaded Western Europe.

If Britain surrenders, she gives all of her non-Atlantic possessions to the Axis.

Italy can surrender after 1943 if the Allies have all of Egypt and Libya, as well as Sicily and a beachhead in mainland Italy. If they surrender, they join the allies, but all territory north of Naples-Bari becomes German, as well as 6 random Italian units.

Japan will surrender to USA if they lose control of Osaka, Tokyo and Kagoshima. They will surrender unconditionally, and will then be recreated as a new country, but with modern borders. They will lack military completely, as well. USA gains control of all their territory, but will automatically cede all territory owned by their allies, and cede western Manchuria to Manchukuo, Korea to China and some Islands to Russia.

In event 5145 you have England and the US being at war as a trigger for the Japan surrender event. Now that must be a typo :).

Personally I think your Japanesse surrender is too powerful. It could easily be exploited by a human player. Invading Japan as the US is a piece of cake since they don't garrison their islands very well. Perhaps if you set up a Vichy style event which would create a 'Republic of Japan' (home islands) and keep the remained Japanesse territory at war with the Allies.

The way I see it, people use non-stock events because they want a better/more realistic game, not because they want to exploit them. Well, I mean, some people request pure cheat events, and they're welcome to use these events too, but I didn't write the events with them in mind.

Personally, I think Trip's comment in his Blitzkrieg thread summed it up pretty nicely:

The problem is that Japan still had a considerable amount of occupied territory at the time of their defeat. Since we can't trigger on either amount of troops/fleets or A-bomb attacks, I chose the 3 key cities at time and made them targets instead.

You're right in that Japan defenses her home provinces poorly, and the event can't be used in MP (due to the fact that Japan is annexed by USA before they are recreated), but hopefully the event will have a better use after the AI have been beefed up even more.

About being too powerful: the surrender works pretty much like it did in our history. I could let them keep territory in China and so on, but I found no reason to do so. Perhaps I should add a trigger so that it can only be invoked in 1944 and after instead.

Remember that the Vichy event is equally powerful: France keeps Guyana and their troops, but nothing else.

Perhaps if you set up a Vichy style event which would create a 'Republic of Japan' (home islands) and keep the remained Japanesse territory at war with the Allies.

I don't know, is it really plausible that the Japanese would split up? Despite the military coup, they seemed determined to keep together as a people, both in war and peace.

Personally, I think that if Japan surrenders unconditially, the war in the Pacific should end. Period.

That, and I don't want create new nations just because of an event that will rarely be used. I prefer to keep interoperability with other user mods. (There are only 20 user defined countries available.)

Points well taken. Perhaps a good compromise would be to require the Allies to occupy all Japanese home island provinces.

Its unfortunate that we can't trigger events on A-bombs. Without the A-bomb the fight for Japan would have been BLOODY.

Points well taken. Perhaps a good compromise would be to require the Allies to occupy all Japanese home island provinces

I don't think it'll matter much, given the current AI, but it's a good idea nevertheless.

I'll stick it into my event pack, but leave the event unchanged above to avoid confusion. The IDs of the Japanese home provinces (including Naha - 1688) are named in the revolt.txt file insert above, if someone wants to do it himself.
