There were a couple of instances where the only thing that kept the war going was the swedish determination to get satisfaction (money and land) for their war effort. Without Sweden the whole protestant alliance would have collapsed.

And there were instances when the Austrians kept the war going as they had the upper hand. Basically the one who was on a loosing streak wanted to end the war with his gains intact, and the one who currently was on the roll wanted those very gains for himself.
Maybe Sweden was noisiest about wanting compensation, but every state wanted this or, if loosing, refused to give it away.

Sweden tends to do really well in every GC of mine.

Most of the time at the expense of Russia & The Golden Horde. Rarely oddly enough against Denmark.

In my games they pretty much remain intact, give or take 1-2 provinces. :)

Al right more like mid 16th century. By the time those great kings and leaders come along it´s to late.

when does this legendary swedish power kick in?

in all my games, sweden either stays relatively the same or is gobbled up by denmark(diplo) or russia (attrition).

in my latest one as france, i had them as allies and even helped them to gang up on denmark. they couldn't even take one province!

Well, its supposed to kick in early in the 17 th century but they never manage to hold on that long.
All those generals make them a player's dream, though... I loved them, especially during the 30 yrs war... (which wasn't - as usual) :)

You bet. An human player can make wonders with them, but the AI... it just can't understand that the swedish armies are going to melt during winter and swedish manpower is very low. Then the russians come in hordes with spring (I'm playing Russia in this moment) and crush them whithout problems.

This is why I like playing the Danes. Your armies are more expensive than the Swedesand they have all these great leaders (even in the 16th century they get soem good ones). Makes life interesting because you never know when a tiny army will come by and lift your seige. So I'm in favor of an overpowered Sweden.

Sweden is just about the only country I will play in the game, save for England during the GC game (EUII). Even when I played the board game Sweden was the way to go. Besides, personally I like Sweden, it's a beautiful country. BUT, I must say one thing out of jest, funny that there is alot of emphasis put on Sweden, it's power, such in the game-just like France. Ofcourse, historically this is accurate however it does seem oddly funny that the game was primarily designed by citizens of the two former great powers whose only overpowering strength now lays in the past. ...hm, here in the U.S. we play the game of being the world's only super-power today;-) hehe DO I detect envy????? Lol
