Yes, sieges step progressing during battles.

As long as you have a claim on their title(s), the top option in the Peace talks should be "Be My Vassal". Then you should always give up the claims on their titles (except for the odd very rich county you have your eye on), and force them to give up claims on you (force them to recognize you as rightful owner).

Just to be sure, you do have the latest Beta Patch? I know it says 2.1 Beta Patch, but it never hurts to double-check. Some games come with a prior Beta Patch installed. See the stickies for the patch threads.

Edit: Oh, and we're weird, we love hearing interesting tales of other player's games. And it's been fun sitting on this side of the computer screen, listening to your way of talking and flavoring the game. :)

In reverse:

* DLed everything from GG. Orig CK, then DV, then the patch from this site. I should be OK, right? I did do s. t. a tad unusual, but...ask and I'll explain. It's probably moot, anyway. Game seems to run OK and IAW the info I read here.

* Missed the 'be mine' thing, I guess. Anyhow, are you recommending I drop claims to get this? You seem to imply the AI likes a quid pro quo (which isn't surprising).

BTW, I write for a living, so thanks for the compliment.

Yes, the AI loves a generous winner. If you go out, grab and keep everything in sight, you'll end up with a really bad reputation (which is BadBoy (BB) Points). BB effects alot of other things in the game, up to and including your vassals monthly loyalty. Giving up claims in the peace negotiation (since you'll end up having them as a vassal anyway) will also reduce BB.

Edited again: Oh, i forgot, I'll wait for someone more awesome than me to chime in, but I'm not really sure if you're suppose to patch the original CK, and then upgrade to DV plus patch?

As in:
Install CK
Install CK 1.05 patch
Install DV
Install latest Beta patch.

Not sure if it matters or not.

This is really more TekSupp, but:

Installed CK via vanilla Vista Home Premium default paths.

Same for DV.

DLed GGs 'looky here' link for a text file that gives instructions about crusaderkings_reg.reg location and editing same.

Got totally confused, 'cuz couldn't find said file in Registry. (I usually do my projects for IT companies, BTW - I'm a tech writer, not a coder)

Copied CK directory structure to a new directory.

Copied DV and patched it.

Took patched DV copy and overwrote everything in CK copy directory.

Launched from there - seems to work. Oh, unless I'm sorely mistaken, GG's CK DL is 1.05.

There is no entry in the registry file for CK and DV .. .so you can copy the game folder anywhere you want and it will work. You can even have several installations with various mods etc.

There is no need to patch CK to 1.05 (if you have the old CD version) before installing DV, as DV overwrites it to 2.0 anyways.

So the normal install procedure:

- CK (any version)
- upgrade to DV
- patch with latest DV beta patch
- Install any mod(s) you'd want. Just remember to make sure if you use more than one mod, that they are compatible with each other. F.x. TASS and DVIP are not compatible.

actually there is. since its the AI default, more or less, being semi-salic makes inheritances that flow in and out of your court much easier to track and anticipate.

I'm kind of a weirdo but one of my goals in the game is to have a really long family line that kicks butt but with direct decendants so I like semi salic. It's kind of fun to make sure you've always got that male heir of the king ready to ascend the throne.

Real men play with semi-salic Gavelkind as their inheritance law.

I had this as Serbia. because of war/duress, my kings kept dying early, and their many children kept dividing the realm. eventually, I was down to one county, and a grown up double duke child of an earlier king rebelled and crushed me. I got busted to count

but he was infertile and when he died, I inherited everything back and then some. other wars (and associated fatalities) meant that many of the other inheritances came back to me soon enough.

hell of a ride.
